There’s a CZcams channel called the _Virtual Gaming Library_ that catalogues every game released for each system up to the Wii, (sorted alphabetically with time stamps in the complete list videos as well as videos by letter) across all regions. It a mesmerizing watch. PlayStation could pump out the 3D, but the Saturn had some of the most colorful and stunning games. It’s no wonder these old graphics are making a comeback, especially in the homebrew scene like with Sonic Utopia and such. If you’re looking for more of this kind of content, that channel should be pretty helpful.

"Izuna" as a series kind of fascinates me. Not so much for the games themselves but more for how much the developer of the series, Ninja Studio, seemed to try to make it into a larger IP.
You've got the two main games, "Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja" and "Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns", which are alright DS mystery dungeon games. The first is very simple but the second definitely improved on nearly every aspect. As mentioned in the video, they can be surprising tough and oddly unforgiving in how much they love to make you lose your equipment. Still fun games, just don't get attached to any piece of equipment you happen to get.
Then we have this DS fighting game called "Windy X Windam". It's also by Ninja Studio and apparently their final game before silently closing down. I don't know what its premise is but both Izuna and Shino are playable fighters in it. Only issue is that it's kind of really bad. So I guess I can't say it's surprising that Ninja Studio shut down shortly after.
And finally, there's this obscure DS SRPG called "Rondo of Swords". It's very "Fire Emblem" like, right down to having obtuse and lengthy secret requirements. I would actually recommend it for anyone interested, as it does have some fairly unique aspects. Anyways, speaking of secrets, as for why I'm bringing it up, both Izuna and Shino are secret optional units in the game. Before I even knew of "Izuna", the series, this was where I discovered them. Heck, it even has Cotton, from the "Cotton" series, as a secret unit as well.
So yeah, "Izuna" is involved in a grand total of four games, two of their own and crossover-ed into two others.

For real. I'm not super into beat-em-ups but this game being the first Rare game produced under Microsoft really feels like the conversation around the actual game itself took a nose-dive and honestly feels underappreciated. Can't believe the buyout is the only thing I've ever heard surrounding this game. Good ol' Rareware humor and a very great flow of different area's. Every new area You visit feels like the logical next area to visit. Kitchen > Freezer > Dumpster outside area (I don't know what You call it)
and enemy variety I also find interesting with Mummies that are invulnerable to all types of damage except fire. They create a lot of interesting scenarios around these gimmicks and then You got this Wacky Races "D!ck Dastardly" lookin' villain giving You these random feeling circumstances to work with while giving a goofy chuckle. Also really like how every new enemy gets their own introduction. and also the dumb plot that feels like it could be over really quick but keeps finding excuses to keep going and being "dragged out," real amusing lol. "Silent movies" + animated Comic aesthetic styled cutscenes, etc. all wrapped in this goofy Halloween styled game. good stuff.
Haven't watched the whole game but I really enjoyed what I had seen of it :)

With the "HD Remake/Remaster" kick Square Enix has been on over the years, I feel like a Brave Fencer Musashi revival is only a matter of time at this point. It's such a cool, cute, and endearing game (with a fun soundtrack and English dub to boot!) that it's such a shame that there's no modern way to play it outside of having a Japanese PSN account. That said, SE did post a CZcams video acknowledging its 20th anniversary back in 2018, so mayyyyyyybe there might be a surprise in store for its 25th in 2023?
If nothing else, for anyone reading this comment, do check out the OST! That game might be my earliest memory of a leitmotif before even understanding what a leitmotif was.

Really? I don’t see it, not to say the game is bad, it’s awesome. It’s just not something I would see getting an Hd Remaster, mainly for the fact that it’s been years since I last heard anyone really talk about unless you search for discussion. And maybe because of “Samurai Legend” just not being as good as the original.

@@MultiBoxingKid I only assume it's gonna happen eventually, considering SE seems to be all about appealing to niche audiences and retro-style games as of late.
If a game like Live-A-Live (seldom talked about, released only in Japan, apparently didnt perform too well originally) can get an HD remake and global release, I dont think BF Musashi is too far outside the real of possibility.

Square Enix funny enough went to go with Japan's edgy and eccentric aesthetics at the time with the NItro+ guys (hyper edgy visual novels with cute girls like Saya no Uta and Fate/Zero, also their total tonal whiplash mascot Super Sonico) with Gunslinger Stratos. Which even actually was innovative by making it a clean hybrid arena fighter and arena shooter where you would lock on, but only your vision of the opponent, you had to aim at their center mass to not miss. And the gun controller in arcades was something from Power Rangers where you had dual hand cannons that could be locked horizontally and vertically. Becoming punt shotguns, KILLSAT laser pointers, nuclear bazookas, homing drones, etc.
Alas, it never came here in overseas outside Round 1 entertainment centers, interest dropped competitively as no new content came, and the attempt to make it a high concept PC title was left in alpha test.
So even its spiritual Wiimote fighter sequel Magician's Dead was left to abandonware and converted to spare fighting game monitors and arcade sticks, and the developer is now the My Hero Academia content farm.

It's nice to know with enough budget an indie studio today can pull off the aesthetic they want and provide good gameplay at the same time.
The 2000's felt like it's was either/or in most cases, which is why we get so many of these lost media gems. Most of which were forgotten as a consequence of having bland or disappointing gameplay loops. Obviously a few managed to incorporate both, but that was usually because the console's parent company sank a bunch of money into it, and the developers were often veterans from the previous console era (Insomniac from Spyro, ND from Crash, Sucker Punch from that one game in 1999, etc.)
