As he poses for photographs with his Premier League Golden Glove trophy, the silverware is secure in the safest hands in the division, as is David’s place in history. His name now sits alongside goalkeeping greats such as Petr Cech, Edwin van der Sar, Ederson and Allison, who also recorded the most shutouts in a campaign.

What many don’t know is David had a horrific injury on his face where his nose was damaged in 2018 after a collision in a game while at Blackburn. To come back from that kind of injury as a goalkeeper is amazing. Greats like Petr Cech found it hard to be the same after a major injury!

Because you want to play 11 players in every phases to not be outnumbered.

People say he's been helped by such a solid defence but the guy often shows a great command in his box and delivers when games are a little tense and potential nerves can kick in. He's made some mistakes but I think his season overall has been very good and should only get better with a season under his belt getting to know his defenders. Glad to have him at the club!

Keeping possession so that we can maximise the quality and quantity of our possession, ball progression and chance creation, which would eventually turns into goals. More possession also means we would face a lot less shots.
Attract the opponent to press him so there will be an unmarked teammate elsewhere, breaking the opponent’s press.
He has great vision, game reading and decision making on when to pass slow/fast, when to go long/short, dictating the tempo at the back. Has great long and short pass accuracy. Great at claiming crosses.

If any team wanted to improve towards the very top in modern football, they will have to eventually sign a ball playing goalkeeper.

Sometimes an eye test works just fine and as an Arsenal fan who has watched every game this season he's done pretty well when called upon. He's pretty composed in his box and seems to have a established a strong relationship with his core defenders. His shot stopping is pretty good although an area he can work on and he's admitted himself and his delivery out is exceptional and at times has created significant attacking chances. Sorry for surprising you with this info!

Raya has literally the best record last year at Brentford. In today’s game, finding a keeper confident at ball and who can play form back , defend press and make pinpoint accurate passes is rare. Arteta style doesn’t need an exceptional good shot stopper because whole team backtracks and defends. Raya suits perfectly Arsenal style of play. The only thing I will want him to improve is his mentality in big games because he clearly looked Shaken in Bayern game both legs. Little bit of composure could have helped us in home game against Bayern

MY CRYSTAL BALL VERDICT: To win the EPL title next season, we MUST increase our number of wins, reduce our number of draws, and reduce our number of goals conceded. Therefore, our defensive and attacking solidity MUST be improved upon as a matter of priority. We must sign at least three (3) more top quality attacking players, two (2) top quality creative defensive midfielders, and one (1) top quality defender. Secondly, we must not lose any of our home games and only have room for a maximum of one (1) home draw.
The days of having average players on the bench must come to an end if we really want to win titles in all competitions. What we need moving forward is that from next season, we must have at least twenty (20) players in the 25-man squad who can play in the first eleven without a drop in quality to compete successfully in all competitions. Ten (10) of those players must be capable to playing multiple positions. Home grown or not, draw up the remaining five (5) players from the best of our under 23s that will play in the EFL Cup alongside the senior players. Secondly, we must do away with all the injury prone and egg-shell players in the team and start signing players like Declan Rice who have got steel, grit, strong bones and not injury prone . Thirdly, If we want to sign any player from now onward, from defense to attack, the first four criteria we must look at before anything else is that the player must have TECHNICAL ABILITY (first-touch ball control), PACE, PHYSICAL COMBATIVENESS and HIGH STAMINA levels.
