  • Basically a teaser for my upcoming 4th rifling video. Contains some rifling button theory as well as a look at my new hydraulic rifling machine! Do you Patreon? If every one of my subscribers just gave $1 a month I could have about $60,000 a month! And with that I could have a camera man, sound man, producer, editor, mansion, a jet, Ferraris, hookers...we could definitely take this channel to the next level! Please help me out if you can! www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=43...

    Regulate the return flow on the low pressure side. Hydraulic seals need some back pressure to function smoothly otherwise you get that sitck slip.

      You don’t understand how fortunate you were to even have a school that offered the opportunity of a machine shop class, no matter how shitty it was. A motivated student could get knowledge outside of the school (the interwebs, books, etc) and use the schools equine to learn quite a bit.

    This is so cool you've been a big inspiration to me to get building and get a channel going.
    My theory is the pump impeller olny pushes fluid on half the rotation the other half keeps the valve closed since its cheap and Chinese. Because its not smooth constant flow it jumps.

    Educated guess would be with no back pressure there maybe some air in the cylinder which is compressible and when the force of fluid compresses the air beyond the static force holding the ram in place it jumps and the cylinder pressure is reduced and held in place rinse and repeat as hydraulic fluid continues to to flow.

    2:29 I had a non daydream experience in an aircraft that landed in Europe last June (2023). Aircraft wheels down, hit the runway, typical screeching of tires, then loud roaring that I didn't recognize (I can hear the difference between take off roar and reverse thrust roar). Felt myself being pushed back into the seat as opposed to the feeling of going forward when reverse thrust is used to slow the aircraft. Plane then took off, flew a few miles, made a U turn back to the airport and landed.
    Looking out the window, I see that the runway the aircraft had first attempted to land on, had construction crews and construction equipment on it!!!

    it is jumping due to air being in the system or you have a oval geared pump head type, like what what designs are in ice cream pumps.... two oval gears 90 degrees out of phase, to create a pulsing/ hammering effect, which help "plop" the ice cream down in to the bottom of the cones, for proper filling technique.... Why am I just now finding this channel? after all these years of hunting for a nutcase that fears not, building anything he desires... This is an easy click of the sub button...

    The jumping looks like "Stiction" to me, but as others have said it might be because it's unloaded. A place I worked sold and installed above ground lifts and sometimes the rams would jump, jitter or squeal going up or down. The fix was using "Caterpillar brand" hydraulic oil additive which had an anti stiction super lube or whatever. Then things became silky smooth. In our case we added a quart to the reservoir. I looked it up and on the Caterpillar site and this is what is showing. 1U-9891: HYDRAULIC OIL ADDITIVE. Good luck and thanks for all the videos.

      Not just kids. We live in a pill popping society that has a pill for every pain and disease which however create more problems and disease then they cure called side effects. Then you have to take other meds to fix what the previous meds have damaged then other meds to fix again what the previous meds caused ending in a vicious circle of pill taking that never ends.

    Looking at your hydraulic set up, I only see one hose. You might want to incorporate a couple of return springs on the rod end of the cylinder like you see on Hydraulic presses. Faster return as it helps push the fluid back to tank and it might help with the jumping by putting a nominal load on the system. I'll be interested in seeing this develop.

  • @hellishgrin4604
    @hellishgrin4604 Před 4 lety +1

    As far hydraulics go, assuming the system is bled fully, there are no weird leaks, all passageways are free of restrictions and lines are not kinked, it could be a problem with the unit itself or improper flow rate. It could also be that there is a check valve set too low and is bypassing the flow back to tank, but that would be a crazy weak valve and would not be suitable for your use, so this is highly unlikely.
    Edit: It could also just be because there is no load. I forget why exactly because it been a while since i've worked on this stuff, but it could be the weight of the rod itself is enough to cause pressure to build to the point where it overcomes opposing forces and lurches upward. Like when a heavy box starts moving after pushing hard on it, it feels like it jolts or breaks free of resistance. Maybe lubricating your guide rods might help if you haven't already.
    What kind of pump is it? Some are better for continuous flow while others are built for higher pressures. What's the gpm rating of the pump, cylinder dimensions, and internal line diameter? What kind of pressure are you seeing/ expecting?

    On your rifling machine, could be a combination of several things, first if you just put it together the first few uses you have to work all the air out the system. Next the seals are little tight (OD of the seals to the ID of the bore) on the piston, are the relief valve not sat correctly

    Mark, on that hydraulic drive stuttering. Apart from the obvious issue of maybe having some air in the lines you are looking for control not efficiency so the flow control needs to be of the meter-out variety. Make sure you have a meter-out flow control on it, if so purge the system of air. Good luck!

    • @markserbu
      @markserbu  Před 4 lety +5

      As I showed in a previous video, button rifling can be done with a vise or a press. A custom hydraulic machine for button rifling is simple and can be made for less than $500, a mechanical one for less than $250. A cut rifling machine is much more difficult and expensive, and in the end you've got something that takes 100+ times as long to rifle a barrel as button rifling does. Plus you're removing material from the barrel and not getting the advantage of a strain-hardened bore that button rifling gives you.

    (Pretty sure because you intend it to.) The jumping acts as a hammer to push the button through the bore, accommodating the steel's spring-back on the way. Call me crazy. Change my mind.
