It's pretty stupid to do it like this tho because unlike on Samsung phones where the EQ for the headphones and speaker can be adjusted separately, this setting affect the headphones, and you need to toggle it on and off. This is made even worse by the fact that unlike long-pressing the sound icon in the Samsung's notification shade, you need to jump through settings menus on iOS each time to change the EQ. Really annoying. So I just leave it off on my iPhone X. I don't understand why Apple doesn't adopt something as simple as separate EQ controls for the loudspeakers and bluetooth/headphones etc.

I had same problem, the FIX is to go to Setting and Go to Sounds and Haptics. Look to see below Ringer and Alerts that the Change with Buttons is ON. Turn on if off. Fixed mine and friends in seconds.. Good luck.
