- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2008 | Using Copenhagen as a springboard, we'll visit the very best of Denmark. Aarhus welcomes us with its ruddy affluence, charming open-air museum, and eerily well-preserved ancient bog man. Roskilde impresses visitors with its royal burial church and the best Viking-ship museum anywhere. And the delightfully quaint isle of Ærø comes with half-timbered cottages, ships in bottles, and cobbled alleyways that remind us of the world of Hans Christian Andersen. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #denmark

This is just perfect, You really show DENMARK, and not just Copenhagen. There is such a big difference from Copenhagen to the rest of Denmark :)
How can i live in denmark anyways please?
Rachid Bechikhi I don't really know how you can come and live here permanently, there is a bunch of rules, and it's all confusing. However people can come and study in our country and if they are lucky that can lead to you being able to get a permission to stay in Denmark
Madelaine Thomsen
Thanks, one more question, what should i study to get permission to stay in danmark?, i mean what is most needed in denmark so i can fill the gapes and so they'll need there to stay? and... thanks again.
Rachid Bechikhi well we have many international studies, within a lot of different educations. Try google "study in Denmark" I'm sure you can find something relevant. I'm not fit to give informations about this :) Because I know little of the rules
+Rachid Bechikhi Engineering. Specializing in something like environmental engineering or sanitary engineering, but any kind of engineer really as they are in high demand. Also, learn Danish if you don't know it already - this will aid you immensely in getting a job here.

denmark. the place you mesure mountains in inches...
You mean metric millimeters ? :D
NERD WARNING:
Except that there is literally no mountains in Denmark, the highest “mountain” in Denmark is called Himmelbjerget. The funny thing is that Himmelbjerget directly translated means “the sky mountain” wich is ironic because it’s not even a mountain, it’s a hill. it’s to small to be qualified as a mountain
Denmark = 100x flatter than a pancake
Sorry for being a nerd
F Ξ L I X __ O R I G I N Λ L The highest place in Denmark isn’t actually Himmelbjerget, it’s actually Møllehøj:)

My favorite part of Denmark is most definitely northern-west of Jylland. It’s the most calming, beautiful, and during summer the weather is just amazing!
Absolutedly! I from the Løkken area. Now I live in Spain. I am in Løkken 3 months every summer. I have lived in Copenhagen for 10 years.
TRIHARD
Is it cold in northwest Jylland?
@@squatch545 The weather is generally bad there. At least compared to Spain. There are bad summers and good summers there. When the summer is good, the weather there is more nice than Spain. Especially if you are near the Vesterhavet (The West Ocean). Løkken and Blokhus.
It's really cold there
Hey Rick, thanks for presenting our homeland in such a nice and positive manner!
A warning to all of you out there who really want to visit Denmark - it's cold and dark in the winter and less charming, especially for southerners. We also (sadly) don't get as much snow as our northern neighbors, but when we do, winter is just as charming as summer!
Summer, however, there's no place on Earth I'd rather be than in Denmark during summer... Oh man.
What ya mean the dark gloomy weather is actually pretty nice

Over the years I have really enjoyed Rick's journeys through Europe and elsewhere. I was lucky to visit many of the places he has showcased because I worked for Continental Airlines for twenty years. The scenery was great in all of the countries I have visited, but it's the people I met along the way that I will remember the most! From the man in Scotland that helped me fix a flat tire, to a couple in Ireland that fixed me a great Irish Sunday dinner, to a lady I met in Hyde Park that just wanted to talk with an Anerican, to a Turkish man that played Backgammon with me for hours in Istanbul (neither of us spoke the other's language), to a family in Italy that I stayed with for a week.
Thanks Rick!

You have the best job in the world., earning money while travelling around the world..
I'm from Copenhagen (Amagerbro) but this was a nice video to watch. Eventhough I've travelled a lot around Denmark with my father it's easy to forget how beautiful rural Denmark is. If you're planning a long weekend trip to Copenhagen I can highly recommend visiting Roskilde (about 30 minutes by regional train from Copenhagen Central Station), Hillerød where Frederiksborg Castle is (approx. 40 minutes by S-train from Central station), Helsingør or in english, Elsinore, where "Hamlet" and Kronborg Castle are located - approx. 45 min. by regional train from Central station). Trains run most of the day with 10- or 20-minutes interval. It's not cheap compared to ex Berlin or Prague but nothing is cheap in Denmark. As a local I can always give good advices concerning budget travelling and it is possible to find cheap places to eat for example in Nørrebro where I'm currently residing. Have a nice day folks :)

The most happiest country in the world!!! Ahhh i really want to be here😣😣😣fairytale country with nice culture and happy people, such a joy to live here
For a tourist maybe, and in this video, yes. But we do have many depressed people, many alcoholics. We do have some criminality of course, some drug addicts an so on, not everything is idyllic! I don't know why and how Denmark came to be the most happy people, because we are not! And we have a lot of mobbing each other. Our politicians have become very corrupt, very sad, and they are rapidly destroying our welfare system, including the hospital system and our formerly good public school. We are really desperate now. But apart from that is is a good country
Naja Abelsen corrupt nooo but the rest... sadly yes

Wow I would like to visit this beautiful country. This is perfection. The countryside, the centre, the houses, people too. It's all quite amazing. I'm sure that lifestyle there would be higher in relation with other parts of Europe.
Denmark along with the other Scandinavian countries and Germany and France are the most evolved countries in Europe, so if you're from USA you might want to visit some of those countries if you don't want a cultural shock
Edit: rereading that comment made me realise it could seem pretty offensive, it was not meant as an insult against the rest of Europe, the southern countries are beautiful! I meant that the countries in question are more like USA than some other countries in Europe
Wow that's good to know. Surely if I go there one day I'll get a shock, because it seems that people live quite good in those countries. Thank you for the information. Kind regards. Nicolas.

Thank Rick steveS Denmark is so ❤️❤️ beautiful!!! And have such a rich history , with so much to see, I am always reading vickin storys
Well if you missed something to tell in my mind. it is The story of Holger danske. a stone statue said to come to life and defend Denmark in times of need and suffering. a great viking worrier statue
LiquidBlackWolf He also missed the northern part of jylland (Aalborg, Skagen, Blokhus osv.)
LiquidBlackWolf Yes, I'm surprised he spent so much of the episode on Aero. It looks nice and it seems he harbors a special affection for it, but as an American who recently visited Denmark for 10 days (and saw just about everything) there were several things that I think could have warranted inclusion instead of lingering there so long.
Namely, Kronborg Castle (with Holger Danske and the Hamlet connection), Egeskov Castle on Funen, Ribe (and the Wadden Sea), the Jelling Stones/mounds, Aalborg (Linholm Hoje is a better Viking cemetery than the one he showed), and Skagen.
Or maybe this means a third episode on Denmark is called for! (I'd recommend doing Ribe when the International Viking Market is running, as that would make for some great shots).
As an aside, I also found it interesting that he chose to go to Aros Museum in Aarhus even *BEFORE* the Rainbow Panorama was installed (which is really its biggest draw now). I would definitely be inclined to "update" the Aros part of this episode (if they ever do such retroactive editing) with a blurb on the Rainbow Panorama (and I'm not sure The Horse Sacrifice is there anymore, so maybe they could be swapped...)
Frankly, a fourth episode on Denmark is probably warranted too. Namely a second episode on Copenhagen. I was surprised at some of the things he left out in Copenhagen too: Amalienborg Palace (was really surprised at this omission; though I noticed the "out-take" there at the end), the Kongens Nytorv, the Marmorkirken, the Rundetaarn, the Assistens cemetery, the Designmuseum and State Art Museum (he should mention Eckersberg in addition to Kobke!), the Dyrehaven and Gruntvig's Kirke to the north, and maybe even the Louisiana Museum and Den Bla Planet are worth mentioning in a follow-up episode on Copenhagen. (A quick shot *inside* the Radhus main hall would have been nice too, maybe a blurb about Jens Olsens world-clock).
+Mark Kendall If you were in Denmark for only 10 days, you did not see just about everything. Sorry to break it to you. :P There's plenty for you to discover still! Sometimes the least spectacular things are even the most spectacular. :D
Did you see Møns Klint, though?
I can understand why he chose to stay on Aero/Aeroe/Ærø for so long. I'm danish (and half greenlandic, by the way) and have seen many places in Denmark, felt the atmosphere every place, and there's many wonderful spots. But there IS something very special going on on Aeroe. a deep feeling of peace, almost unconscious...a calmness...and I HAD to move to this Island to live here, and have finally found peace in my soul and life

Denmark looks happy. Life in East Asia is busy.
truth is , Denmark is one of the countries that consumes most antidepressants annually
@@Alkomp75
Hi there :) If you are going to go across the internet and spread facts around about data then you need to learn to understand that data. Do you know why the use of antidepressants is high? Because our healthcare is "free". It costs nothing to see a doctor and getting a prescription if you need help is both easy and very affordable. We don't hide our mental health issues because we have the means of treating them. Unlike america for example where people avoid treating their health issues because the cost of medication is so high.
Also Denmark is one the most advanced countries in the world when it comes to registering data. We track everything. This is also why our covid data is some of the most trusted sources in the world.
Also we use antidepressants to treat anxiety instead of benzodiazepines, because it is less addictive.
So I would suggest you learn why data is different in different countries :) It's almost a science in itself. And we are proud of how seriously we take it.
