I actually did this on a bottle of soft drink, I used a spoon, I tapped the neck 2 times then saber it.
It was successful, it smoked, but didn't bubble.

I accidentally sabered a bottle of soy sauce the other day just trying to scrape up the side of the plastic seal wrap around the neck to open it. 🙃 Needless to mention.....no foam. 😆

A toast to you good sir! I've always wondered how these things are done.
Well to do it for real you run the blafe along the vertical seam on the bottle similar to honing a knife on a metal stick thing where doing it smooth yet fast, if you jerk it it is likely to smash the whole bottle if you go too slow it will just bounce off the lip...it takes a bit of practice but can be learned in a weekend with a case of cheap sparkling wine and some cut resist gloves

@@ShugoAWay and you use the back side of the knife, not the edge of the blade! Lay the blade flat along the bottle and slide it on up!
And I believe chilling the bottle helps. Not necessary, but it helps a little

Good idea for a video. I'd never considered it before but in retrospect it's obvious they would have some way to make the effect work properly every take. Perhaps you could do one how they make pots of boiling water, especially if the actors have to put things into or throw it.

Add a tube that makes air literally the same concept if you want the water to be completely harmless. You might have to add an attachment that makes the bubbles spread out but that’s about it

it is honestly very dangerous if you get some shards in the champagne. People really shouldn't be doing it or promoting it.
The champagne is under pressure. Things go out, not in. There will be no glass shards.

I've never tried it but it sounds like it'd be hard to do.
Not nearly as difficult as it seems. The bottle is weak in that area, and so long as you have the right follow-through, you'll be fine.
Not hard at all. Part of my job is picking up litter on country roads, and I've done it to tons of full beer bottles for fun. You don't even have to have a sharp knife, I do it with my grabber.

easy to do, but takes nerves and stillness of your hand to do it safely

Let's go I didn't know you were working on one of my favorite shows Walker was just amazing and Liam bringing the champino's sick
One time when I was in the marine corps, we were celebrating my birthday with a few bottles and didn’t have a saber so instead of opening it normally like we should have, I got out my dull, but trusty (and rusty) hatchet and tried to “saber” them. Long story short, we ended up having to run all the champagne through coffee filters to filter out all the glass shards 🤣
