Habits, we all have them, and hopefully we have more good habits than bad ones. There are many who suggest that creating good or even great habits is the key to success, best selling books have been written on breaking bad habits and creating new good habits. in the context of clarity equals velocity I want to offer a different perspective based on what I’ve learned on my own personal journey of growth, and of working to be the greatest version of myself, for me, I've come to the conclusion that it's not really about habits. Many best selling authors who have tackled this particular topic have concluded that habits are unconscious decisions-that is, they're decisions you make without actually thinking about them, and some believe the only way to change these unconscious decisions is to address them at their source, your subconscious mind. And while I get all of that, in my own practice and observation of many who I’v worked with I’ve come to a different conclusion, and that it's not new habits that ultimately serve us, in fact I think its not even the right term to use. what it is about is discipline, about having a commitment to a vision of your future self and the degree of self-love you have that fuels your commitment to becoming the best version of you and of how you see your future self, the challenge we face is that without discipline we don’t have the fuel to get past our tendency comfort and for instant gratification, so to maintain discipline we have to clearly see that the future version of ourself is worth the challenge to achieve it. remember, the future you is depending on the current you, to keep the promises that you made to yourself yesterday. When you fuel your discipline with the clarity of knowing your core and driving values, then the future version of yourself has the confidence that the current version of you has the discipline to achieve your vision. Do you have a vision of the future you?
