  • Probably good for him heading forward that he lost to some up and coming talent first time out with the Olympic back patch.

In my opinion, 1st dropping to the knees could be a shido (almost no effect on the opponent), but this was a few seconds after the score - therefore OK to not give that 3rd shido (like at the start of a fight usually).
2nd drop down was not worth a shido, because the opponent moved around Lee as a reaction of the attack.

Lee looked good yesterday and being able to win here as well as Tbisili, he could certainly end up at the top of the podium at Worlds. I do agree that the reffing here was a bit off. I felt that Lee forced Nagase off the tatami at one point while on 2 shidos and that is supposed to occur an automatic shido.

Had a chance to train with Lee's coach the past few days. He was so excited he beat Nagase

Could also be 3rd shido, but at the end I prefer that the scorer wins.

Yeah, and pushing out, that's time to time shido worthy,
Two drop Seoi, obvious false attack.
But at the end of the day,
Lee did score Wazaari, and that's creditable win.

About the shidos, Ive learned that it is a false attack if you attack and the opponent doesn't move their feet. If they can just stand there its considered false and by this principle Lee moved Nagases feet every time he dropped.

    Nagase Takanori the best

2nd drop down caused opponent to circle in order to avoid the throw, so no shido.

Did Lee deserve the shido? Probably. Did Lee deserve the win? Yes. Nagase made a mistake and got thrown, I think the right person stepped off the tatami a winner.
