Lyrics
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
When I was a very small boy
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
That's the price that we all pay
And the value of destiny comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there was just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
You took my time and you took my money
Now I fear you've left me standing
In a world that's so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun

Just absolutely brilliant songwriting
I'm 52 and I feel privileged to have been a teenager listening to the best 80s music; the Smiths, New order, Electronic Cocteau twins and the trip hop/ Bristol Sound...early dance music, vinyl, being a geeky teenager in the new club scene. How can I ever move on from being Gen X?

"When I was a very small boy, very small boys talked to me" is such a deep, compelling, and emotional lyric. I replay it over and over.
Why
Because when we were just little children, we were all equals. Now we're grown up and someone's your boss or your customer, someone's poorer or richer than you. People will judge your religion or treat you differently because of your colour. That's just how the world works. But we all had a time - around when we were toddlers - that we could talk and play with each other without caring who they are. (that's my understanding of it anyway)
You are spot on. Adulting is hard work.
This song came out when I was 13, I got it then and I get it even more now.
@@narananas7671what you wrote is beautiful and describes the human experience very well. ❤
@@narananas7671So well-written. I agree. I see it similar to you. When you're a kid, you're in a world of children where they will open up to you and let you into their world in a way they don't do with adults. It takes me back to my childhood. It's a simpler world, where mutual kindness is everything. There are no jobs, labels, status....your reputation is everything. This lyric cuts right through me emotionally.
How progressive New Order and Joy Division were for their respective time impresses the hell out of me.
Always heard this on the radio growing up, but I have so much more appreciation for it today!
Anyone here old enough to remember when this first aired on mtv? Almost 30 years ago! Good Grief, where the fuck did time go?
+theedrstrangelove As old as I am!
What's amazing is how far mtv has sold out since then. Instead of music videos, they push progressive authoritarianism and soul crushing reality shows that pimp greed.
+theedrstrangelove Yes, I remember it like it was yesterday yet it was so long ago. I remember that in the Plaza Pasadena Mall in Pasadena (CA) at The Broadway they had a TV in the men's department and played Music Videos and this one they played a lot when it came out. I guess the store was trying to appeal to the young hip new wave crowd like me by playing this video. Great video.
+Sultros Drunknsage What you said is said very well and true. MTV is not MTV now. It just is a vast wasteland.

New Order is such a euphoric band, they know what they're doing. I'm 13 and even I love them, that's how timeless they are!
I’ll give a fun story. I’m 50 and took my 18 year old son to see them back in March. About half the audience was my age and grew up with New Order. The other half of the audience was in their 20s. All of these songs came out long before they were born. Us old folks sat down but the crowd in their 20s. Stood up and danced for the whole concert. It was amazing. I wanted to tell all of the 20 somethings that they don’t need to ever wonder what it was I like back in the 80s because their energy that night was like a time machine. For that 90 minutes we all were there. If you can feel the music. Then you’re there too. ❤

'The value of destiny comes to nothing'
This line always makes me think of The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, only there's no real road. There's no path, no map, nothing is important except every step as we take it. We stay in the past or get held hostage by the idea of the future, thinking of what we were or should be. As someone who feels doomed by the possibility of a future that does not suit me, this line is a comforting reminder that the concept of 'destiny' is not unshakeable. If you spend your life thinking the day will never come, you might be missing the day as it happens because your gaze is too far ahead. If you try to get back to the childhood you lost, you'll just let time fly past you and you'll lose that too.
Carpe Diem, and may you listen to more music that sounds this good while also playing with the morbid concept of being caught under the influence of time.

There honestly is something otherworldly and magical about this particular track. I first heard it on the radio in 1987, and it seemed that time itself had come to a halt, and I asked "what is this?" And then a week or so later I saw the video on MTV and knew that it was for me. I bought the cassette and have loved NO ever since. Joy Division too, of course.
Where are you living now bud?
I really love this song. I miss the 80s. I'm 41 now and was born in 1981. Best era to grow up in with some of the best music ever.
I'am 52 by now. And still ADORE this song. It was a great Time!
'81 kid too, listen to this most days never gets old.
Nothing from the 80's comes close to this song XXX
Same 81 I love aw these wee songs fantastic!
We were so spoiled in the 80's. It seemed like a never ending party.
All the 1980's were special filled with great music. Although i was born in the middle 50's and was experienced in so much classic music that i can say I appreciate all good music. I tend to go for the 60's and 70's
Just my opinion, thanks GOD Bless
Personally I think most 60s music is too simple, with a few notable exceptions such as mid Beatles, 70s great, 80s the best but most people like the music they grew up to most
1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick Bought Me Here
Nice short movie for watching with the whole family.
@@NEKRomantik. Yeah That's So Really Disturbing I Ever Seen
I just showed my 2 year old daughter this video and at the end she said, "Again!"
Such brilliant dancers, and the energy and beat of this song are something else. A lot of New Order's songs are profoundly brilliant. Manchester produced some class bands.
My two year old princess loves it too
A-ha! More proof that we should listen to the words that come from a child's lips.
There is hope for the future after all. The kid already has good taste in music!
@Franc Andreoli Thank you, that's a lovely comment. 😊
@@Beatles0223 😂
I am here because I was lucky enough to be young in the 80s, the best musical decade of all.
Not really. 70s were the best
I agree 80s the best everything
Very true bro !!!
Andrea V I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Yes.i was born in 1980 .fantastic.from italy
80’s Hits
This is one of the songs that I could listen forever, probably one of the best songs ever made. Another song that reach same level is Enjoy The Silence ( Depeche Mode ).
Something about this song makes me want to cry but I can't just because of the beat being so good.
Happens to me too! 😭
Listen to TLOU2’s version, it’ll make you cry more if you know the backstory of Ellie
@@rylanruffles7106 Yeah that one is pretty good also.
Me too @Trance K Blade
Or if your related or friends with Jun lin
My favorite New Order song. A New Wave Masterpiece and a 80s Pop Classic.
🗓10th March 2024
still my all-time favourite
anyone else??
certainly one of them
one of 'em
Yes, this is my favorite New Order song!! I never get tired of it!
Yes
Classic
My favorite song ever!
Who's here NOT because of Calvin Klein, but to appreciate and recognize the greatness of 80s music...the best era of Synth-Pop ❤️
Oh Yesss!
Could be both!
I'm here because of the Anberlin cover.
NeRdYoYo I’m here because of the greatness of the 80’s. Haven’t seen nor heard of any Calvin Klein thingy
NeRdYoYo me
Even as an old man, this song strikes cord in me.
Your not old my friend...your ALIVE...!!!....enjoy
Fk yeah what a choon! I moved to the US 24 years ago and today my now 19-year old had this song stuck in her head like a worm. She wasn't even a thought when this was out. So happy my kids love the good stuff!!!
An aux cord? Or a 220~240V kettle cord? :D
Telephone cord. In days gone by, every kid knew exactly how far the telephone cord could reach. That’s why so many mothers became expert shoe throwers.
*The Three Stooges* would have been proud of this music video. They would have gave it their slap of approval. 👋💥
The sign language in this video is utterly memorising!
Can’t listen to this song without thinking of him

With what happend in 2012, I can't tell if you're talking about the singer or Justin Lin
@@justrelaxman1278 i think he means the guy who got killed by Luka yeah

"My morning sun is a drug that brings me near to the childhood I lost replaced by fear" that line is harshly touching... My god.
These guys are pioneers. Awesome song. We had it so good in the 80s with all the great music that I think we took it for granted.
Totally agree
Just a classic!!!!
I was born in 91'
My childhood was the waning yrs of epic music.
By the time i was 17 the state of music was already turning into marketed propaganda.
There was great songs in the 80s but so much shit too. So artificial and no depth. It overshadowed the great alternative hits tbh
@@deathbeforedecaf7755 any other songs you can recommend me?
As someone who was born in the 2000s, the 80s was the BEST time of my life.
I've lost count how many times I had to hear this poignant song. Thanks forever ♾️
Probably my favorite song from New Order
So much better than today's music.
True Faith was a gateway record for me, aged 15. I bought the 12" and played both sides (1963) every day. After buying Substance 1987 on double cassette, I became a New Order fanatic, buying their back catalogue with Christmas & Birthday record vouchers, and searching for early 12"s in secondhand record shops. I followed them ever since, in all their guises.
I feel lucky to have grown up with bands like New Order, Depeche Mode and The Cure, who are still performing now.
Lifelong Bands.
"I feel so extraordinary.."
Video, come al solito, geniale. New Order è stata la band che più di ogni altra ha saputo interpretare al meglio la video music dagli 80' in poi
DEC 2020 and still rocking this.
for real lol

Yes!!!
..Rocking this this jam for life.in my top 20..👍
Why wouldn’t you be?
Now aged 61 and loving this era I grew up in 😁👍🎵
Sill a magnificent song and one of the best videos of all time. Immortal treasure
Best. Video. Ever. It's crazy but I hear this song and start doing the dance. No self control.
