For the hole, get redstone ore under the carpet and an observer facing it, then have a trail of redstone going out the observer into a redstone trapdoor, so when you walk on the ore hidden under the carpet it activates the door which makes people fall through
This is like the ultimate crossover series and I love it

Make the magma chamber like a hell hole with netherrack cracking into courtroom floor and on the sides of the chamber are lavafalls feeding the main chamber. I like it more than the subtle approach.
hey terrorizer if you attach a piece of wood to a sticky piston, you can make a staircase going down one block and put a 1x1floor infront of that staircase and put a block with a lever on top of it, with it being connected to the sticky piston. the piston is going to be block below and behind the staircase making the wood under the staircase, so when they pull that lever they would fall and get burned, but for that to work you have to connect the piston and the lever with redstone dust. I have no idea if it would work but its worth a shot. :)

You guys should make it a sticky piston that moves a block of something covered with the carpet. It would normally be closed but when the lever is activated, it'd move the block from underneath them and they'd drop into the lava. It would just take a little more redstone dust and building blocks to make sure it's Schmeg that can activate the lever.... unless you wish itvto remain an answering service lever (lol).
