Hi Evan, I don't normally comment on your videos but I just wanted to say how much I've been enjoying your interior design ones. I have no particular interest in interior design, I've just found these videos very soothing. After watching you go through all the stress and anxiety of finding a place to live, it is so rewarding to see you in your home, making the space your own. Good luck with the rest of the decorating! (Also loving your map of Middle Earth in the background :))

I know people are making fun of you for having painted white over white but when you compare the finished ceiling to the walls you can definitely tell the difference; the colour is much softer and warmer.

Hi Evan, I used to live in an old flat with a perpetually mouldy bathroom ceiling. We once used the blacked-out bathroom to develop some old-school black & white photographs and that killed the mould right dead just from the vapours. We mixed in a splash of photo-chemicals in the next paint job and never had any mould again. So anyway don't do that, it's probably very toxic, but it sure worked haha!

I can't pinpoint exactly why but this video put me in such a good mood. Like your whole mood just seems infectious, your enthusiasm and positivity during the whole process. I think also the fact that you have such a passion for doing this well, when some people would see it as such a mundane and unimportant thing; that you're doing it purely for yourself and you seem like you're enjoying the process. I'm also planning on moving for the first time in my life (out of my family home) next year and this has really inspired me to do some research into the theory of interior design and DIY stuff to make my new place feel like mine :)
    Thank you Evan

My goodness, I had the joy of painting 3 bedrooms, the kitchen, living room and bathroom ceilings with the help of my mom. You are very lucky to no have to spend time removing the horrible popcorn ceiling which I had in my home. I also was mainly painting the walls and trip, not the ceiling so I'll just give you some all around tips for painting the apartment.
    Here's some tips!
1- Use a smaller brush when cutting in, it really helps to make it easier!
2- TAPE! Ceiling and for the walls when you eventually paint them. Tape the edges to avoid getting paint on them. Obviously that isn't a major issues for you since you haven't yet painted the walls but when you do paint them, be careful and add as much tape. I know, it sucks spending so much time adding it, but it makes the job so much more enjoyable when you finish.
3- when you are painting the walls and around electrical outlets or light switches, take off the cover for them. It makes it s lot easier to cut in around them without making a mess.
4- You said it somewhat before but I'll say it again, don't use too much paint on the brush! Especially on the walls because any too much paint when cutting in can leave huge drops that are hard to clean up.
5- If you plan on painting the trim, baseboards or whatever sort of trim you have, do it last. That lets you not have to worry about ruining them and you can tape the flat wall and just freely pain the trim.
6- when doing the walls make sure to cover any holes/bumps, sand, and wash down the walls completely before you even think about popping open the container.
7- Wash after you sand. You don't want all those little dust particles in the ceiling so I recommend washing it with a wrung out wet cloth and then waiting for it to dry before slapping on paint.
By the way I am in no way a professional and this is just what I remember doing when we worked on painting our home but that was around 2 years ago so I have some limited help.

10:34 just wait until you hear where "dodging and burning" comes from! dodging comes from the photographic darkroom where you let less light from the enlarger hit the light-sensitive paper by covering it up with a small tool (looks like the PS tool, a little round thing on a stick) or in the case of burning, which is the complete opposite were you let more light hit the print darkening that spot! a common way of doing it is by covering the light with your hand and having just a small opening with your fingers, hence why the icon is a hand! you can also use a little card with a hole in it! Let's more light on a specific area darkening that spot!

Just watching some of your videos after following your flat buying journey! Maybe you'll never see this comment but they have special paint for bathrooms that are mildew resistant and generally you aren't supposed to use flat paint in the bathrooms because its less resistant to mildew (its more rough a porous hence the matte/flat look but also allows spores and bacteria to build up easier). If your bathroom has the proper ventilation maybe you won't have to deal with that but just in case it comes up in the future.

I didn't have a TV when I bought my first house to save the cash. I couldn't have saved that cash if it was just tax. I was lucky that the radio licence had been abolished by then.
My staff gave me an old TV so I had to buy a Black and White licence.
