    Due to necessary track repair work at NY Penn Station, starting July 10th, 2017, 3 round trips of the Empire Corridor Service began serving Grand Central Terminal, marking Amtrak's regular return to GCT for the first time in several decades.The P42DC is isolated, and only functions as a cab car. Shot between the hours of 9:45 to 11:30, and 1:20 to 2:30. Enjoy the action =)

    • @mbapnyc
      @mbapnyc Před 6 lety +1

      It seems like they change to diesel while in motion before harlem because they were on diesel before harlem and i know that they have to switch to third rail in grand central. Maybe they do it because that way they dont need to do it later.

    • @malikrthr1
      @malikrthr1 Před 4 lety +1

      Metro North P32AC-DM's electric mode is designed to only be ran for 10-15 minutes. Usually somewhere between the 97th st portal and Harlem-125th street, the change can be made from electric mode to diesel mode.

    • @Mnrr6131
      @Mnrr6131 Před 4 lety +1

      No. They are operated by the cab car. So whatever setting the throttle is in, the locomotive responds to that and will push to the speed needed. You were probably thinking of the FL9s as they operate like that

      They also have P32AC-DMs. The ones in the video are all P32AC-DMs.They are used on all Amtrak lines going to NY Penn that don't travel via the Northeast Corridor, but are usually switched out for P42DCs because they are more powerful. Occasionally, the trains keep the P32AC-DMs.

    18:10 does anyone know where the chime sound comes from on the train? They use it in my home town Ottawa on the outside of buses to announce what route it’s on. For example:
    “ ‘ding dong’ Route 82 Bayshore (then repeats in French)” Is it a sound available on the internet or something?

    Not trying to argue and Amtrak at one point years ago did go to Grand Central Terminal but stopped doing so simply because it is a terminal trains not go on beyond that point. While some of the diesel trains may say Amtrak on the side it's still Metro North commuter railroad Amtrak branches off at New Rochelle and ends up in Penn Station I say this because I commuted from Rye to Grand Central Terminal over a 30-year period.
