    When we see vultures they are usually just flying above! He's all like "Look at my wings, you know you're impressed!" Haha! Great video!

      He's displaying, as in, "I have a gorgeous wingspan. If we mate, our baby birds will be the most graceful soaring scavengers ever."

      The only reason I’m looking up vultures is because we just seen 10 of them in a dead tree

    People don't like vultures because they're always associated with death. I personally think they're beautiful, especially when flying above. They're so graceful when they fly, and have such beautiful large wings

      The raven the black vulture and the marabou stork look like haunting or death birds but I still find them cool with the concept but they are just animals who scavenge food not hunting prey but sometimes they do but on rare occasions

    To those wondering why they make that odd noise... it's because these birds don't have a syrinx. Birds tend not to have a vocal folds in their larynx, but communicate with a syrinx, deeper in their trachea.
    But vultures don't have either, so they're basically just breathing loudly to make a noise. It's fascinating.

    My question is are these vultures harmless or harmful? Recently I was going to the store and I encounter a vulture we have in Richmond Virginia call the turkey vulture eating a dead squirrel, I took some pictures on it but I didn't want to get close to it because I feel like if I did I would die

    • @macymezzell7108
      @macymezzell7108 Před 3 lety

      Generally, no, they aren’t a threat; vultures are physically adapted for a(n obligate) scavenging lifestyle, so most lack the strong feet and long talons for gripping that are found in other raptors; therefore, most vulture species are physically incapable of gripping or carrying objects in their feet or surviving on a predatory lifestyle. They may occasionally hunt small (lizards, snails, etc.) or weak (injured, sick, dying, etc.) animals, but most vultures are generally poor hunters. Besides their extremely corrosive stomach acids (and...ehem...vomit), the most ‘dangerous’ part of vultures would probably be the sharp beak + bill. With that being said, some vultures, such as the Black vulture, are more tolerant of human presence, and thus may not be significantly bothered by people standing nearby while they’re eating. Other species-especially those at the top of scavenging guild/hierarchy-are more competitive and aggressive at a carcass, and best to watch from a much greater distance. Turkey vultures aren’t as social as Black vultures, and they’re not necessarily one of the more competitive or aggressive species (which Black vultures sometimes are as well), either; TuVus are generally a bit more skittish, and they usually avoid being near humans. So when it comes to photographing a Turkey vulture eating, my advice is to keep a distance (min. 15-20 ft.), be as quiet and still as possible, and stay in a place where you’re less visible to the bird. Hope this helps!
