Glad to hear that you enjoyed the holiday with your wife.
Wedding Anniversary on May 4th! 😎
I rewatched Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (25th Anniversary) on a massive Superscreen on that day. So many people dressed up in Star Wars costumes in the West End of London on that day.

Happy Happy Birthday Stripey! have a great one. Thanks for the mention - much appreciated. Must check out ' Growing up with Bruce lee', it sounds great. I travelled miles once to see a Bruce Lee double bill. Missed the last bus home because I couldnt bear to miss the Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris fight at the end of ' The Way of The Dragon'. Spent the rest of the evening thumbing a lift home. Hell, it was worth it though.

Must check out the Growing Up With Bruce Lee book, just to see if it mirrors any of my own experiences during the 73/74 time period when we were all blown away by seeing Bruce's movies at the cinema. Truth be told, most of these people, I would say it’s as much as 99% of the people who talk about Bruce, have no idea about Bruce, how he trained, the name of any of his students, maybe “Inosanto” but no idea about Jesse Glover, Howard Williams, or Ted Wong. Most people don’t even know he only made the movies he is known for when he WENT BACK to Hong Kong in 1970 and only made movies for a year and a half.
People seem to think he spent all his life in America as a movie star or something. They have no context for anything, Bruce’s age, time line of events, the transition from wing chun, to jun fan gung fu, to jeet kune do. Most people have no idea what jeet kune do even is and don’t even know he took trapping and chi sao out the curriculum in 1971 and was moving away from it himself by 1968, maybe even sooner.
Bruce was trying to make ends meet most of the time he lived in America. I’ve even seen a comment by someone saying
Bruce’s “people” edited the footage at the long beach demonstration to show him in a “good light” 🤣 Bruce didn’t have any “people” or the money for something like that, the guy was mostly unknown outside of martial are circles until he made the green hornet 1966-1967 and even then the idea of him having a team of “people” editing footage to make him look good.. it’s just absurd.
When you show off your skills, you better be able to back them up when someone tries to get physical with you which absolutely happened more than a few times.
Most people just really have no idea who Bruce Lee was or what he actually did, and, as I’ve said before, they get their information from people like Joe Rogan, or other opinions about him from people who says things like “Bruce Lee influenced me to hold my mic like this” 🤦‍♂️ it’s absurd.
People love quoting him, not even understanding he didn’t even say some of these quotes, one example “absorb what is useful and discard what is useless” was never said by Bruce.
There is no mention of him saying this at any point.
This was said by Inosanto that has been falsely misattributed to Bruce to push the agenda and idea of mixing arts to form your own “style” which is absolutely not what JKD even is. JKD works because of the structure, footwork, body mechanics etc.
“The majority of people who practice
Jeet Kune Do are mixed up, they think it should be a part of Wing Chun, a part of MMA, a part of Thai boxing, a part of wrestling, you know, a part of Wing Chun, which this is completely incorrect. You don't go from style to style, you go from distance to target or target to distance. Longest weapon to the nearest target and the most direct and efficient route possible, that is Jeet Kune Do.” - Tommy Carruthers IFO JKD founder
The truth is most people aren’t interested enough about Bruce to learn any of this stuff or sift through all the bs that’s been pushed and spread about him over the last 50 years.
He even wrote a letter to one is his students, called XYZ telling him to STOP mixing karate with JKD.
Bruce on JKD: "Only one of 10,000 can handle it. It is complete martial art. Complete offensive attacks. It is silly to think almost anyone can learn it."
Even Chuck Norris tried telling people he wasn’t a student of Bruce, trying to claim they were just “exchanging ideas” but when Bruce got wind of this it pissed him off enough for Chuck Norris to write an apology letter which you can find by looking it up.
For people interested in finding out the real truth about Bruce you should look up John Little’s interviews on here, especially with the kung fu genius. John knew most of Bruce’s students, friends and family for decades and had access to many documents, footage, photos and various other things other people never have.
He was friends with Bruce’s first student Jesse Glover who will teach you more about Bruce and the direction Bruce was taking his art (fencing with hands and feet) than any other student of Bruce.
I suggest for anyone interested look up Jesse’s book, between wing chun and JKD. It is currently out of print but you can’t find it and read it online.
Also look into Tommy Carruthers, Tommy was close with Jesse for 20 years, as well as Ted Wong and was asked by Bruce’s own family to demonstrate JKD at two of his birthday celebrations. If you want to know what JKD is look into what Tommy does, anyone else is a waste of time in my opinion, stuck in the past teaching things either Bruce moved away from or abandoned for more streamlined methods: Simplicity, directness, and economy of motion are the principals and very very few JKD people actually follow the principles.
Look up John Paul Daily JKD and Thomas Marx JKD on here also.
Even the idea of him never having a fight. How tf can the most renowned martial artist of the last century have this sort of reputation by having never having a fight? Oh yeh, by making a few movies over the course of a year and a half 🤦‍♂️ it’s ridiculous.
Everyone seems to be unaware of the stuff that really went on behind the scenes in Bruce’s life. Many people have slandered and lied about him over the years, including people like Chuck Norris.
CZcams is full of uneducated idiots unwilling to put the time in and learn about the real Bruce Lee.

Definately one of the best comments I've ever read so far. I wouldnt say 90%, but many posters on YT, that's for sure. There are many who knows about most of what you pointed out, but there are indeed some clowns who dont even know a timeline and what he did at which point.
The major reason for this is I guess the comments of Joe Rogan. He has the biggest podcast in the world, and he reaches many people.
I am a German, and of course I know much about Adolf Hitler. And Hitler's minister of propaganda was a guy named Joseph Goebbels.
One of the most famous quotes of Goebbels is:
"If you tell a lie over and over again, at some point people will believe it's the truth."
And guys like Gene LeBell, Joe Rogan etc prove it works!
In the past 1-2 years, not just by John Little but many others (Stripey includes, Goldenbell Training, The Kung Fu Genius Alex Richter), so many things Rogan and LeBell say or said were cross checked, and if you do this properly, you only can come to the conclusion LeBell's statements are weak, too many contradictions, be it his stories about Bruce but also Steven Seagal.
But it all doesnt matter to people. They just ignore it.
Funny is when they are mentioning Matt Polly as source (some haters), taking his words out of context, they totally misquote him. Polly stated:
"Bruce Lee was probably the world’s greatest martial artist, he was a genius. It [martial arts] was his religion."
And in other podcasts he said Bruce was "a pretty good actor, a fantasitc martial artist, one of the greateast martial artits of all time and a deadly street fighter".
If you put several of Matt’s accounts together, his opinion about Bruce is like this:
      - Probably the world’s greatest martial artist,
      - a deadly street fighter („he could have been beaten by some people, but not by many“)
      - a good but not great actor
      - an overrated philosopher
      That’s Polly’s standpoint.
So if you judge it like medals, gold, silver, bronze and wood (wood is 4th place), he ranks Bruce like this:
      - Gold medal in martial arts and street fighting
      - Silver medal in acting
      - Bronze medal in screenwriting and directing
      - Wodden medal in philosophy
And something interesting from John LIttle's book "Wrath of the Dragon":
In Lee's day, various Hollywood legends such as Steve McQueen paid him 275 US dollars = 256 euros per hour (45 minutes) for private martial arts lessons with him. Anyone who wanted lessons from him overseas had to pay 1000 US dollars = 930 euros.
According to the calender year 2022 inflation, the prices would be as follows:
1 hour private lesson with Bruce: 2,330 US dollars = 2,166 euros
One week training overseas: 8,474 US dollars = 7,878 euros + expenses, and of course still 2,330 US dollars per single hour.
Normal martial arts instructors today earn around 2.600 US dollars per month. Bruce already earned 2.166 euros per single hour.
This shows what a reputation Bruce had as an MA instructor. He earned almost as much in a single lesson as normal MA instructors earn in one month.
So one hour private martial arts training with Bruce in 2022 considering the inflation:
      2.330 US$ = 2.166 Euro = 1.860 pound sterling
The point karate clowns (Norris etc) were light years away from such a level, same with LeBell.
But some people are simply so incredible dumb that you dont find words anymore for it. Lee wasnt a demi god or what ever, he was mortal, but he wasnt just some tomato can what some young jokesters believe today. You would find people who would tell you Jake Paul would beat Bruce Lee in a street fight since Jake is a "real fighter" and Bruce was "only an actor".
BTW: Point karate was an amateur sport. So when Chuck Norris always said: "I was a professional fighter" he lied. He was never a pro fighter, not for one second.
The only pro fighters in the 1960s in the USA were boxers, like Muhammad Ali, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, etc.. Bruce knew and sparred one of the heavyweight guys back then, Joey Orbillo, who was the boxing coach of Joe Lewis and KOed him with a kidney shot. Orbillo admitted he couldnt do anything against Lee. And then you have a gyu who was the nr. 5 judoka in 1965 and 1967, Hayward Nishioka, who also said he knew and sparred Bruce, and admitted he couldnt do anything against him too.
Take an "only an actor" type of guy like David "Kung Fu" Carradine, and let him sparr against Nishioka and Orbillo. Carradine would get destroyed by both.
And yes you are right about the other things. I dont know why there is still the believe he was the father of MMA. But it seems that's what many Americans believe today.
And it's also true that so many never heard of the people you mentioned, like Jesse Glover. The guy won the Pacific North West judo championships 14 times in a row, studied judo under Fred Sato, both brought Bruce to judo around 1960, but yet Rogan and all these guys say LeBell brought him to judo in 1966, etc.
PS: Of course such clowns like Beerdy are not help too. The guy is such an insult to Bruce and acts like he is a super fan.

@@chrisbach1533 thanks for the positive reply Chris. I think it’s clear, Bruce wasn’t just good, or very good, he was absolutely exceptional. Of course anyone can be beaten, because we can all be hurt, but Bruce movement, fencing footwork, his ability to not telegraph, his speed and power, I believe would make him a significant problem for any man of any size or background.
Thanks for providing more information for people to read in your comment. Obviously I’m fed up trying to educate people about Bruce just as much as I’m sure you are.

    Great show as always.
I don't think a good biopic about Bruce Lee exists yet. But two films really do not do badly, as far in their way of treating the subject cinematographically, one closer to reality "Bruce Lee my Brother" and the other more distant, Hollywood fantasy but respectful of the myth "Dragon The Bruce Lee Story"
Despite their flaws, these two essays managed to capture the essence of the character and convey it to the big screen. I highly recommend them.
Bravo for the good work happy birthday and hope you're doin well Stripey.

Fun fact : The movie Unleashed ! Jet Li's Character was the most Brutal role he's played in his entire move Career ! So much so that when it was completed he had to take a full year off just to get the Character Danny out of his Psyche because he got so much over immersed in the Role ! Welcome back ! And all the best for tomorrow Son ! 🎉❤🙏🇬🇧

Hi there i love watching your CZcams channel and i have been a Bruce Lee Collector since the late 1970s.... just a question..will we ever see Fist of Fury on bluray with the same complete English Audio dub as the Rank Video version of Fist of Fury which was the original UK cinema version ..it has original war cries/fight yells and no Mike Remeidos soundtrack and in my opinion the best English Dubbed version out there..its also a better than the US version as in different War Cries Fight yells ..I was really disappointed when Arrow never picked up on this especially on the Export Print of Fist of Fury..all the best Patrick

Yes please Stripey, it would be great if you reviewed some Biopics. On censorship, I still have my 1980 letter from James Firman about the treatment of Bruce films. I think it's a generic letter rather than an individual response, but at least it's something I've held onto from the old days. I've just finished reading Carl Fox's 50th anniversary Enter the Dragon book (overpriced, but well worth having) and there's a great section about censorship in the UK, and also about where ETD outtakes have been used. It seems there are some in GOD II (I must watch it). Apparently, if they were reinserted into ETD, and the Mai Ling scenes were re-edited to where they actually belong, it would do a lot for the storyline and continuity. I had no idea that Mai Ling had a fight scene with one of the cavern guards before releasing the prisoners, but there are photos in the book.

I've not picked up Carl Fox's book...Yet. I didn't know Mai Ling had a fight either, interesting 👍

I was trying to think about Bruce Lee topics that people don't go in-depth about, in hoping you can consider it for the future. It is all the places Bruce Lee has travelled.

@@StripeyR I'm sure if Bruce was alive for the promotion of Enter of the Dragon he would of visited London for series of interviews.

Congrats- that’s a nice little tan you’ve picked up.
Speaking of videos, just a suggestion for a possible future one. We know G.O.D2 is often added into collections even though Bruce wasn’t involved. How about your take on the other sequels in their respective franchises such as Fist of Fury 2. I remember watching Way of the Dragon 2 back in the day, but can't recall now if it was actually related or just a cash grab on the name. 😆
