I personally think that listening to Angelina is great for anyone's mental health, and I think many of her fans would agree with this. - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 70 artists. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written five of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", "Million Miles", and "7th Heaven" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.
- Updates: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist".
On Nov 6 2020 she released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"!
On March 19 2021 Angelina released her latest single "7th Heaven"
In Dec 2021 her cover of "Mercy" was in the opening credits for the movie "The Hating Game"
She has done so much already, but at 16 she is just getting started!!!
Rusty, I noticed that you didn't do what seems like a natural thing in this instance and include the quote sometimes attributed to Angelina that this was about a "desperate cry for love . . ." Is that because it is inaccurate, undocumented, etc?

As far as the legitimacy of the quote, it definitely sounds like something she would say, I just don't know the source. I don't usually re-post anything I don't have a good source for, and I have lost track of that one somehow.

Why does Angelina sing barefoot?
When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.
Angelina penetrates hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. Our Bare Foot Princess of Jazz, Queen of song!
It was Peak Pandemic and I was feeling low. No work and nothing to do but to aimlessly scroll through my Facebook feed. And then amongst all nonsense up came this video from America’s Got Talent with a 13-year old girl from Norway singing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in a way that was totally beautiful and mesmerising. I was instantly hooked. And the more I listened to this young girl the more emotional I became and it kind of snapped me out of my mood. I became a fan like I’ve never been for anyone. I started a CZcams channel. I started a podcast. I wanted others to feel the way I felt - utter joy and gratitud. What Angelina has showed me is that we humans have the power to move one another to the point that it actually makes the world a better place.

Imagine turning up at the studio as a session musician to be told your supporting a 9 YEAR old girl and then you’re hit with this performance. The notes she handed over at the start were her ‘requests’ for changes to the arrangement. They referred to her as the Boss! She arranges most of her covers…what an extraordinary talent.

Angelina really brings out the dark power behind this song and makes you feel that spell. If you are the person addressed by this you should be running hard in the opposite direction! However, there's no need to fear for Angelina's state of mind. She is one of the most well-balanced people on the planet with a wonderful family behind her. How she can interpret a song like this (and she partly arranged it herself) is almost supernatural. Angelina grew up singing Jazz and this is obviously her favorite genre, the biggest influence, the origination of her versatility, deep soulful expression and deep emotional connection to her audience. She can sing any song and any genre. ♥👣
She is absolutely fearless in choice of covers. No artist is too big and no song too daunting. Most Artists shy away from singing Acappella as it will quickly show any flaws. Angelina arranges, at least in part, if not in total, total control of all her performances. She has since she was 7-8 yrs old. She knows what she wants and gets exactly what she wants out of the artists and musicians she works with, many of them who are some of the most accomplished in the industry.
Angelina has the most beautiful deep voice which is always in tune and quite often in her lower register. I believe she is a Contralto which is rare for a girl especially at this age. You will soon realize she is always Pitch Perfect and always performs at a Master Class level. Her voice was powerful and beautiful at 8 yrs old and today at 16 it is phenomenal! Enjoy the ride. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. Hi Amanda, My re-Discovery of Angelina happened after my wife died in cancer four years ago. I´ve listened to her covers and originals over and over, and I just can´t get enough. The emotions she puts in to her singing is beyond my understanding, and for such a young girl its amazing. She has helped me a lot over the years with her singing. Regarding mental health you should listen to her original Million miles. It is dedicated to her late grandfather, and to everybody who has lost someone loved. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand
(g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
I have been watching your videos for some time as they relate to me since I struggle with bipolar disorder. Angelina is also my favorite artist and I not only repeatedly listen to her music I watch quite a few reaction videos. So it is interesting to see things converge and watch you react to her song. You would appreciate both of her original songs produced so far after having signed with a big record label as a young teen. The first is "Million Miles" which was written after the death of her grandfather and presents a very healthy way of dealing with grief. The second is "7th Heaven" which is pretty much putting affirmational messages to music. Whether you choose to react to them on camera or not, you should really listen to the wisdom and musical genius of this young lady.

You're absolutely right, the lyrics are about scary attachment and coercion. The Hocus-Pocus version made it camp, but Angelina is following how the song was originally written and sung by Screamin' Jay Hawkings.
Angelina has well over a hundred videos up on CZcams. As someone who is so oriented toward emotions, you will be absolutely crazy about her. That's because she expresses more different emotions, and more realistically, than any other singer you have ever seen. You may think I am just a crazed fan for saying that, but trust me, look at some more of her songs and you will agree.

Despite the fame Angelina earned winning NGT 2014, her parents were insistent that she have a normal childhood. They turned down record labels and performance requests, limiting her appearances to about 10% of the requests. This is the reason why she flew under the radar for many of us. Yet she did perform around the globe, including on "The View" at 8 years old in the US. As an international "Got Talent" winner, 13 year old Angelina was invited to audition for America's Got Talent, The Champions (AGTC) Season 2020. She owned the audience with her first few lines. She sang her own stunning arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody", earning both a golden buzzer and a congratulatory tweet from Queen for her performance. This is a must see performance (link below).
Despite not winning AGTC in 2020, Angelina was the golden goose everyone wanted. Although many record labels, including those most associated with AGT, and even Disney were knocking on her door, she said no. Yet, at 14 she chose to sign with Republic Records, as they shared a common vision of her music, giving her complete artistic and timing control. RR made a sound decision as while Angelina is still a child, she will become a significant voice to the world. Angelina has appeared on television shows and at music festivals, all while she was still a single digit midget. Although her parents still insisted that Angelina should have a normal childhood, teenaged Angelina is sings with the voice of someone decades older. The largest live audience she sang for (while a preteen) was 40,000, and the more she grows, the more her voice grows, exponentially. Angelina’s received over 1 billion views on CZcams and almost 2.5 billion views on Facebook. She has been featured in TIME, CNN, BBC, and People while also performing on the U.S. network TV shows Little Big Shots and The View. At 8 years old, she performed in the Nobel Peace Prize Concert - Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration, for Peace Prize Laureates Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi. She has sung for Quincy Jones, Barak Obama, Whoopi Goldberg, Forrest Withaker, and numerous dignitaries in Europe.
Angelina turned 16 in January 2022, and lives with her parents, grandmother, and her little sister Juliette in LA. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, was an Iranian born child prodigy in her own right, but in poetry and art. Mery is Angelina's mentor, and they have an incredibly close relationship. Mery films and designs most of her performance attire. Mery and Angelina also worked together to create the artwork for her original release, “Million Miles” (lyrics version). This was written while she grieved over the loss of her grandfather. Angelina (14 y/o) sings from her heart, and offers up her performance to others that grieve the loss of friends and family. “Million Miles” was also released as a studio version, and later as a music video, featuring Angelina and her little sister Juliette, (15 and 8 years old respectively). Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz". She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio recording. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at age 6, Angelina came across an orphaned girl weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. She said to herself "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina loved her shoes as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them, but she saw the little girl’s need for them outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them.
Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle but the ruins next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true you have to remember the poor children without shoes, and I will pray for you Angelina.” Angelina wrote in her diary that day "The world is very strange. Right then and there I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina never performs or makes a studio recording without first taking off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone asked why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, a child prodigy in her own right, but in poetry and art, created the artwork in the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina performed alongside other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars.

I spend most of my CZcams time with Angelina Jordan, since I believe she is a once in forever musical artist. You mentioned that you never understood the lyrics to this 1956 Screamin Jay Hawkins classic before and that happens often when Angelina covers a song. She is the ultimate singer story teller packed with tremendous emotion. Please take the time to read the bio I compiled for her.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on CZcams. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano and guitar and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan.
The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on CZcams went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
A 9 years old, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a CZcams video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on CZcams. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.
Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram.

Your response to this performance and particularly the lyrics is very interesting. The original performer/composer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, wrote this piece back in the mid 1950's. He was a jazz performer, and for reasons not outlined here, he ended up making his art theatrical, shockingly theatrical. What Angelina did as a young girl was to recreate/interpret this piece of jazz history. At the beginning of the video we can see her writing/arranging chord notation sheets which she submitted to the band director for approval. Then she displays the picture/candle of Screamin' Jay Hawkins in respect. As for the meaning of the lyrics as it relates to mental health, I can only defer to your opinion as someone who is committed to mental health issues. You clearly have a grasp of those issues. As an older man of 79 years, my focus is on the expression that Angelina brings to this classic piece of jazz. There are many , many vocal coaches and just plain listeners who marvel at Angelina's creation/expression, as a little girl or not. I think you get that...and I laud your effort to offer deeper insight into the psycho-social content of the lyrics.
What is important about Angelina's musicality and vocal expression is that she uses these in service of whatever song she sings to fully convey the emotional content of the lyrics. She does this so well, time after time, that the listener is mesmerized and enters fully into the story in song that Angelina sings. She began performing in recording studios and on stage at the age of 5 or 6, and has been steadily developing her craft until the present in which she is 16. Anyway, thanks for you reaction/review. I feel it would be beneficial for you to review other performances by Angelina with the point of view of how lyrical content affects mental states, and how effective an artist like Angelina is at the craft of singing.

Screamin J Hawkins had fun with this song, it was his biggest hit and created Screamin J. J got very theatrical with it. Angie follows J's arrangement about 50% of the time. She takes his growl, blabbering, and vocal dirt and makes it work for her 9 yr old self. In my opinion Angie didn't learn this, she heard it and had it, she possessed it in one listening. The skills were already in place, that's what a prodigy does.

Angelina’s maternal grandmother Mery Zamani has had tremendous influence on Angelina and her career as she introduced Angelina to jazz at early age. Mery is somewhat famous Iranian contemporary writer, poet and painter who was also child prodigy herself being on Radio Iran's Children program at age 4 and began writing poetry and painting by age of 9. Later Mery was trained in art at Tokyo Academy in Japan where she met her husband, who was Japanese, during her master degree's training in Japan. She has covered a lot of songs by well known artists and made them her own. One example is when she sings Gloomy Sunday that was made famous by Billie Holliday. She sings it in the same way as Billie did. What does a seven year old girl and a middle age girl have in common? Probably nothing. Yet Angelina is able to express the same emotion. It is a vey dark song and there is a urban legend that people have committed suicide after listening to this song. What on earth makes a seven year old girl pick this song and sing it. Most other girls her age would probably gone for something from Disney.🤔

You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. I follow several great young singers, that don't come close to Angelina. I don't consider Angelina a "great singer." Just as I don't consider Rembrandt just a great painter. Angelina is an artist, that creates her masterpieces with her voice, her knowledge of the mechanics of music, and her ability to have a song sound the way she wants it to sound. There is definitely some subtext here about obsession and coercion, but the original artist and songwriter, Screamin' Jay Hawkins(pictured on the candle at the beginning of the video), definitely had magic in mind. He was a forerunner of the shock-rock musical genre and performed wearing the costume of an adventure movie "witch doctor," holding a skull on a stick as a prop.
