- Welcome to season 7, episode 15 of Horror Hill. I’m your host, Erik Peabody, and I’ve got a good one for you tonight.
Our winter-themed horror spree continues this week, with a tale by Austin Case. In the grand tradition of many other Christmas stories, “Yuletide by the Fireside,” opens with some light marital discord. Jennifer and Mark are on their way up to a lovely (and remote) cottage for the holiday, where Jennifer struggles with finding time for work obligations around the usual festive merriment. However, their picturesque winter getaway is about to take an unexpected turn.
I’ve got to tell you, folks, I really enjoyed this one. I like it when a well-written tale isn’t afraid to go for the jugular. Also, I have a special treat for you today. To me this was more sad than scary . A nice couple finally getting time for each other and falling in love again . Only to have them slaughtered , and we don't even know why , or what the creature was ? 😔
Yeah I thought the same thing. Like I get creepy pasta had unanswered endings but the story made the star seem to be more important and like all the details of them and their lives only to have some random monster and man with no build up or hint to show up. It seemed a little anticlimactic to me...
Do you think the cousin knew what was going to happen and sent them there on purpose? We know their side of the family came from old money, maybe that’s how they got it? By sending people for a “vacation” only to be sacrificed?
@@GoodestKitty oh man you could be right! That would explain the antlers in the cabin. I didnt think of that
@@theartsofkingrat2305 Thats the only thing that makes sense to me in the story, and I find it hard to believe the cousin did not know what was going to happen. I remember the antlers you mentioned, but not the connection to the cousin. I listen while I go to sleep, so sometimes I miss parts. The story had a lot of potential, but was drawn out for an abrupt ending. I just read a similar concept in book form called “The Cabin Sleeps Six,” and it was pretty good. Nothing like this story of course, but same cabin in the woods trope which I love.

Nothing says a holly jolly Christmas like a visit to the Jersey Pine Barrens. Nothing but good cheer there ! While it may not have been the birthplace of the babe Jesus if you can rustle up a couple more wise people just follow a special star and you'll be led to the birthplace of the Jersey Devil! Bring it frankincense and myrrh it'll bite your face off but so would I.
I always thought one humdinger of a story would be 'Interview With The Jersey Devil'. What a scoop for any journalist for starters. The only obstacle I've encountered is the actual writing of the thing. I keep imagining the Devil would be a terrible bore. "Then there was one night in 1836 when I caught three sheep and two deer !," etc. So if a real writer think they can turn this concept into an authentically scary story then steal away !! Glad Horror Hill added a whole new cryptid to the Pine Barrens menagerie !
