My boss, KATANA AIR cost me a lot of money and basically I only use it as a Bluetooth speaker for my phone. The thrill wore off quick when I pluged my guitar in and heard that boxy sound.

I just found in the app that with a long press on any component of the chain it is possible to open a sub menu. Like by pressing longer on boost, we open the menu to select boost pedals, Overdrive etc. This is easy to use and much more intuitive. I am curious to see how the app will evolve and the updates. I waited so long for an update of the Katana Air. I hope this is just the beginning of a great story.

I sure hope it has a new app that allows users to exchange tone patches. The original KatanaAir app was hopeless! 🤞

Brace yourself, they managed to find a way to make it worst. You can download the app, it’s already available and make an opinion for yourself…. I have no words…

Ok. Here's actual facts (based on my opinion).
I have SEVERAL Boss amps. My absolute go to amp for home use is my Boss Katana Air. This is a love / hate relationship.
I LOVE the tones you can get, but
I HATE how the app can be a pain to use.
I LOVE the crystal clear clarity of the sound at very low volume, but I HATE how it breaks up and loses the bottom end when above "very low volume".
I LOVED the thought of battery power, but
I HATED it once I tried it. This thing drains batteries like you've never seen. You will not be using this on battery power I garentee it.
I LOVED the built in wireless transmitter, but
I HATED it immediately after trying it. It will not hold sustain on the high notes, but if I use a cord (sold seperately) it's fine. (Even using my own set of wireless (sold seperatly) it's fine. The transmitter will soon develop charging issues after a few months.
I LOVE the whole idea about the AIR.
I HATE how overpriced it is. For this price there arw other avenues to pursue.
OVERALL I do love using the AIR for all my at-home use. I have no plans to get rid of it. I have however, kept both eyes open for my "next" amp. Like I said, the tones are good, but all the other stuff is useless gimicks to try to justify the price.
As I caught news of Boss's new AIR EX, I was excited and ready to jump on this right away, until... finding out it only has 5 watts over the original AIR. Yes it has bigger speakers but even two 5" speakers with the extra 5 watts? Oh come on Boss you were so close (AGAIN) but failed to make delivery on what what so close to being an unbeatable option in the amp market. For $600+ I just can't pull the trigger unless this proves to be "THE amp". You already have the standard AIR model, now forget the battery option, its unusable, scrap it. You (Boss) and every past and present user knows the transmitter is a fail, scrap that too. Put all that attention into features that we really want (and need). Give us this amp but with a couple of 8" speakers and 45-50 watts. Give us something to sneeze at. MAKE A REAL AND LASTING IMPACT. Give us the product that grabs ahold of our memories, and makes people set the bar with it.
As tempting as this new AIR EX may be, I'm gonna pass for now. Money's too tight and I don't gamble. I would love the chance to try out this new model, and if it's "the real deal" I'd buy it in a heartbeat and spread the good word. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I really do want this new AIR EX to be the amp we've all been looking for. I hope it pans out.
Sincerely, a customer who has supported Boss by spending LOTS and LOTS of money on through the years. B.T.W. Boss pedals are truly the best, hands down.

This was informative. Does using the transmitter really choke off long sustained notes? So its using a noise gate kind of thing to reduce bandwidth? Thats weird, I haven't heard of that. Also, when you say bad battery life, how bad? Are we talking about less than 2 hours of use?

    • @bsquare6809
      @bsquare6809 Před 11 měsíci +2

@@godofrainbows Hey God how you doin?
So, I'm not sure if anyone else has this particular trouble with transmitter holding a note, but mine absolutely does. I wouldn't imagine it had been designed that way on purpose. I play mostly my Fender American Pro2, so I trust that it's not the guitar. My experience is that when I'm bending a prettu high note (above 15th fret on the B&E string) it rings out loud and clear but dies off within 2 seconds. So after plugging in an actual cord it was fine, the note would hold as it should. I also have several sets of wireless transmitters and they all work fine as well. Put the katana transmitter in, nada. I think it pretty much comes down to lack of quality i guess.
Ad far as the katana's battery life? It's not worth snagging batteries out of my wife's nightstand. Now this one I will definately blame the designers/engineers on. They failed in a couple ways. When you choose to run on battery power, you lose 33% of your amps power. Well that sucks right there. Also, just when your enjoying the fact that you're not plugged into a wall outlet that's when the amp starts sputtering out and you find yourself frustrated. I don't think they ever died in 2 hours, probably closer to what they claim (maybe 8 hours)? But I usually have my volume down low too. I use it in the house and don't like to disturb the family. But man I'd bet if you had it cranked the batteries would be dead before you're evening play time was over. Oh, keep in mind that all this is reguarding the standard Katana AIR. This new model is quite bigger, much larger spreakers, and 5 watts more and yet still runs on the same size battery tank as the little original model.
With all that being said, I do still love that little amp. I would recomend it to anyone. It just sucks to spend big dollars and noticing things that should've been improved before greenlighting the assembly line.
Hope this info helps you out.
      Take it easy God.

@@bsquare6809 sorry for the slow response. Thanks for all that information. I believe you. I mean I think it goes without saying one must invest in rechargeable batteries such as the Sanyo loops, of course. Also, why would they not have increased the minimum battery requirement to correspond with the higher wattage and bigger speakers?I don’t know but I’m still very curious and will probably try it out one day for consideration. It goes without saying you have, of course contacted support regarding your poor performance on the transmitter right?. Take it easy.

Looking forward to seeing this in the flesh
My beef is that every review I've seen is saying it's nice on the ex that you can now run delay and reverb together you have always been able to run delay and reverb together on the old one via the app it's not a new feature.
Be nice to give this new one a try.

    AIRSTEP problems
Now that boss have updated BTS to version 2 mainly for this amp but also on old katana air they have aimed the bluetooth on the BTS app so it will only look for and find the katana air not other midi devices as it did.
This now means I cannot run the amp BTS and my airstep in conjunction so it has ruined ny setup
Now on air and air ex have to connect BTS to amp to fiddle with tones and save then disconnect BTS and then connect airstep to use that.
This is not what I bought these things to do need them to run together.
Please boss sort this out asap Ive written direct to contacts at boss but heard nothing as yet
So if you have airstep and katana air / air ex and ran same system as me DONT update to the version 2 BTS.
