  • The Boys from Davie County Diggers and High Sheriff Metal Detecting are on a new permission and ready to save some history. Little did we know that we were about to stumble into a Confederate Camp! Metal Detecting for Civil War Relics has never been so fun!

      We sure did our best! We live 3 1/2 hours from there but we made several journeys! I still have a video from that location I haven’t posted yet that was crazy

    The Confederates were still using smooth bore muskets, not all of them had the resources to get the Springfield.

      I don’t disagree with that- but this is a very very late war site. I could be wrong but I really don’t think there were many smooth bore muskets still being used that late in the war. Who knows- I could be off base. We sure appreciate you watching man! Thanks

      Thanks man. I do hope we can give it another swing. The property owners were a little apprehensive, and to be honest this parcel of woods we were on isn’t huge. Their property was only a couple hundred feet wide- but I’m convinced there are still goodies left there. I have another video that’s yet to come out from this same property and in it I dig a VERY interesting coin

      Thanks man. It’s hard to tell with lead. Impossible to date a round ball just by looking at them, but given the other Civil War bullets close by I’d guess they’re from then too. I appreciate you watching out the video and checking in. Much appreciated!

    Nice finds. I have been detecting around Columbia, Tennessee and surrounding counties for over 50 years. I always like to see what other folks are finding. I love my civil war finds probably the most. Found a lot of carved bullets and game pieces.

    Always stoked when you guys put out a new video!
    That carved bullet…probably just a wild ass guess, but I’m wondering if someone wasn’t goofing around trying to carve a pipe bowl or something? Strange how they incorporated the hollow in the bottom to connect to another hole in the side…we’ll probably never know.
    Love your guys content, so jealous you guys get to dig that era of relics…we have very little civil war era relics up here in Oregon. Guess that’s the best part of CZcams; we get to live vicariously through you.

You know is it’s funny- I actually did consider it could have been some kind of a pipe or that’s what it might have been intended to be after the fact. I just think pieces of history like that are so cool. Just to think that the very last person before me to hold it was a soldier gets my blood flowing.     Hey Chris, hope all is well good buddy. Did you happen to snap your coil where the shaft connects on your Box. I saw what looks like a red replacement piece. Mine snapped late last year and a fellow detectorist offered to 3D print me some replacement pieces. In a week I was back in action.

      Hey Dan! Actually mine didn’t break, but I know that they are susceptible to breaking there commonly. A buddy of mine bought the red thing that you saw in the video and gave it to me. It basically slides in and offers support and protection on the detector, at the location where breaking occurs most, to keep that from happening. Thanks so much for checking in. I’m so excited I finally ordered wireless mics for filming videos. No more spotty audio! Yayy

    This is just a theory but you may have found a spot where two engagements occurred, at least partially, in the same vicinity. OR, early in the war the spot you are in may have been a training camp where target practice was staged (.69 rb) and later a skirmish or part of a battle.

      Well perhaps I didn’t know the exact number, but I had some sense of the number being enormous. I’m not sure I’m understanding the context of your question. Are you trying to be supportive or trying to be critical? Either way I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. I don’t claim to be the relic hunter of the year- just a fat old dad that enjoys saving history and spending time with my buddy

      @@TobaccoRoadRelics my mom owns a half acre in Mechanicsville. The earthworks are literally less than 150 yards from her house. I've found over 500 Lbs of rifle bullets . That's not counting the grape shot ect

      ​@@TobaccoRoadRelicsI found a 3 ringer while cutting grass, ( thought my dad would kill me) bent the mower blade, but in the 80s museums were paying high dollar for it. Daddy said start digging. No metal detector, filled up a cookie tin

    Nice work guys. We got a permission in Mechanicsville Va on the cold harbor battlefield (1864) and we got access to some confederate trenches, anyway we pulled about 30 .69 cal round balls and I was told that some soldiers preferred the smoothbores with buck and ball. The iron brigade had entire company’s armed with them and they were used as “shock” troops.
