    [Spoiler alert]
Mimi despite a very entertaining movie, had so many medical and factual flaws.
    1. India doesn’t allow foreigners to hire any surrogates. It’s banned.
    2. In surrogacy both sides are legally bound and they parents cannot suddenly decide on not keeping the baby whatever the reason may be. Usually a lawyer or a legal agency is involved and any side backing out of the contract will lead to heavy penalties.
    3. Down syndrome is not diagnosed near term/end of pregnancy. It used to be mostly diagnosed via a nuchal scan around 20 weeks. But since the movie is set in 2021, for last few years Down’s syndrome is being diagnosed via the mother’s blood test called NIP test as early as mere 10 weeks.
P.S. I’m a doctor so you can trust the info.

Even though many people are criticizing it because it didn't take into account the indian laws of surrogacy, Mimi was an emotional ride that taught you a lot about many subjects. The same goes for Prince Charming. I haven't watched a Pakistani short film ever, but when I got to know that it was a Sheheryar Munawar directorial and had Mahira in it, I had to watch it.
Loved both the projects and everything was just amazing about them.

A Little insight on Mimi and the concept of commercial surrogacy-
People from the west actually have this thing of having Asian surrogates because of the larger labour market available it is cheaper! Not only India , commercial surrogacy is very prevalent in Korea, Japan, Thailand etc. This practice does lead to exploitation of working class women because they make this their livelihood because of unemployment and their health suffers, at times there are legal agreements that they won't be paid if the child is not PERFECT, at times medical professionals have harrased such women etc. As of India, commercial surrogacy is banned since 2015! Foreigners actually cannot hire a surrogate from India! Even Indians can now go for surrogacy only in certain infertility cases after many legal formalities and the surrogate also has to be a woman from the family or friends barring some cases.
India's legal fraternity has actually taken big offence to this movie because after 2015 this scenario isn't just possible in India-
    A lawyer!

In this era of huge Hatred towards each other in both countries I feel its now more than ever important to sustain this exchange of art in both countries
I want youth to be peaceful
In the ere where our current govt is pushing so hard for propaganda and hatred its responsibility of citizens to find peace and still continue to exchange art
We should not hate each other just because of a political war
Politicians ka kya hai aaj hai kal nahi
Wo zhagad te rahenge for their own vote bank
But its the responsibility of sane citizens to understand that innocent citizens were never involved in this war
And Can still live like brothers as they used to just after partition
Surprisingly when Indian and Pakistani meet out side the country, those lines suddenly disappears

I love how we are talking about post-marital depression.I wish that we would discuss post-natal depression as well because it is really prevalent in our society. As media caters to mostly women, it’s about time we start discussing women’s issues related to mental health in a sensitive manner like Prince Charming did.

During the period of 1996 till about 2015, surrogacy was a booming industry in India, couples from all over the world came here looking for surrogates, who charged anywhere between rs. 5 to 25 lakhs. There have been other Bollywood films on this issue, like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, a straight lift of Pretty Woman, with a twist, then Filhal by Meghna Gulzar, Tabu and Sushmita Sen, but all said and done, Mimi is delightful to watch.
The movie is a bit outdated in concept today, as the market of surrogacy has gone down in recent times. Still, your review is so good to watch. Thanks for this section. ❤️❤️

Hi Hassan and Amna : Thank you once again for a very engaging episode. Mahira was a sweetheart in Prince Charming. Thank you for reviewing such a gem of a short film. Zahid's portrayal of a "normal" husband was so real that you could feel Mahira's pain through and through.
As far as surrogacy goes, I believe that Akansha Hospital in the state of Gujarat was a big hub of commercial surrogacy. And hence that was a popular destination of overseas couples wanting to have a baby via surrogacy.
Hassan, here's a couple of thrillers which I liked. 1. C U Soon. 2. Kappela. Both are in Malaylam and are available on Netflix. I do not understand or speak Malaylam, but the subtitles are good enough.

Prince charming was wonderful! A woman needs love ane attention specially from her husband. If she doesnt get it, she falls into depression. Woman has so many emotional needs. Husbands in our part of the world need to understand this!

Aamna, genuinely curious question without any judgement: is He's All That the kind of film that adolescents can watch with parents without awkwardly looking for the remote when teenage hormones rage across our screens? Reminds me of my awkward childhood moments when a PG scene would come on, and the TV/VCR/DVD remote would decide it'll stop working that very second. 😂😂
Really appreciate these daily segments; I started watching/following Something Haute in isolation during a horrible bout with covid - my symptoms were debilitating. Ever since my recovery, I've dealt with active depression (there's not enough chatter about the neurological/mental health impact of covid which is such a shame), and your show, plus you two, have kept me sane. Thank you for that. 💖
PS: Hassan, watch Dark, Gone For Good, Fatma and The Mess You Leave Behind on Netflix. All brilliant thrillers in German, French, Turkish and Spanish respectively with English subtitles!

But, about the marriage, it's a beautiful and apt line of SRK in Ddecor ad, "In marriage, there's no you and I, just US". Familiar Wife gives a comedic tune to it about wives expectations and significance in a marriage.

Totally agree whatever amna said between 9:30 to 10:15 ... all these school related topics are so so important and relevant. Pakistani writers should try to bring something new covering these areas of our daily lives as well.

Wasn’t expecting Amna to be ignorant about surrogacy. It is not legal everywhere in the world. A huge chunk of foreigners opt for places like Nepal,India( not after Surrogacy act) due to low price and relatively better healthcare than some African countries. It was a huge issue both in India and Nepal(specially after the images of hundreds of surrogates post 2015 earthquake).

    • @gerryburntwood9617
      @gerryburntwood9617 Před 2 lety

Actually, USA,Russia, Georgia, Ukraine the surrogacy is commercial, in Greece& Canada it’s altruistic, and legal,! Commercial surrogacy is legal in Ukraine, Colombia, and Mexico!

@@gerryburntwood9617 I wrote "It is not legal everywhere in the world" everywhere not anywhere. I know it is legal in many countries but not everywhere. Amna said it is legal everywhere.

I read that people appreciated that Sheherzade is so much in love and loyal that she was imagining her own husband. I strongly deny that. In her mind she was cheating and felt as much guilty and scared about it. The man she imagined was NOT her husband Akbar, but a person she fantasized her life with. He just "looks like" Akbar but behaves like the man of her dreams. The latter is part is vital!
Maybe her husband is the most ideal person for her in terms of looks, but Looks don't suffice! She needed more and hence her depression manifested into schizophrenia leading her to imagine another man altogether.
PS Just noticed that Prince Charming is no longer available in India (it was when it released), though other See Prime shows are still visible.
