  • Reykjavík may have been chosen for settlement for a variety of reasons. The land had abundant resources; there was plentiful fishing in the sea, lakes and rivers, and a good natural harbour.
The offshore islands in Kollaffördur were suitable for grazing, with little risk of losing livestock. Conditions were good for cultivating grain crops, and there were diverse natural resources such as driftwood, eiderdown, grazing on the seashore, woods and abundant birdlife.
Reykjavik was a place where no one would go hungry.
in the 1960s, there was a resurgence of old buildings being demolished to make way for newer and sustainable buildings. Over the years, Reykjavík has gone through a number of changes, and it's a city which will grow and grow.
