  • On today’s podcast, Ashley Thompson and Mario Ritter, Jr. host the show. Ashley tells listeners what they will hear.
00:54 First, Jill Robbins and Mario have a story about student protests. Student protests in Bangladesh helped to bring about a change in the country’s leadership. Their efforts follow a history of students in other countries involved in bringing changes to government policies or leadership. Young people have been involved in political change in places from Bangladesh, to the United States, to Czechoslovakia. learningenglis...
08:37 Then, Bryan Lynn has a story about a threat to space travel. Experts say a Chinese rocket that helped launch 18 satellites broke apart in space, creating hundreds of pieces of debris. They warned that over 1,100 satellites and other space objects are at risk of hitting the Chinese rocket debris. The space debris represents a growing problem for activities in space that will only increase in the future. learningenglis...
13:10 After that, Anna Matteo presents this week’s Education Report. Across the U.S., schools have been introducing mental health sessions that include yoga, meditation and mindfulness exercises. Students do these exercises in addition to traditional math, reading and science classes. Researchers say poor, minority students need the additional meditation to deal with effects that seemed to increase during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. learningenglis...
18:53 Following the report, Anna and Ashley talk about the difference between the words “mindfulness” and “meditation.”
20:00 Finally, Ashley and Caty Weaver tell about a national park in California that holds some of the largest living things on Earth. You might say it is a “land of giants.” Sequoia and King’s Canyon National Park holds tall mountains, deep canyons and huge trees, redwoods and sequoias, which are thousands of years old. The largest of the huge tree is known as “General Sherman.” It is named after a U.S. Civil War general. Caty also tells of the efforts that helped create the park to preserve the special area. learningenglis...
After that, Ashley and Mario sign off.
