  • Basic checks before buying a Pentacon Six, Part 1 See more about this on my website, www.pentaconsix.com That's also the best place to contact me for answers to questions, as CZcams makes answering questions difficult.

Glad it was helpful. Given your experience with the Zeiss Ikon folding cameras, I think that you will love the Pentacon Six - and also the flexibility of being able to change to wide-angle and longer-focus lenses, plus how easy it is to take ultra close-ups with extension tubes, etc. I recommend the loading video on CZcams and the further information on my website.

This is a very old camera, they can throw a lot of unexpected surprises at a photo shoot in the form of overlapping film.

      Hello Sergei
Thank you for your comment. It is of course possible for the Pentacon Six, like any other camera, to develop a fault, and this may result in overlapping frames, but in most cases the problem is caused by incorrect loading of the film, especially not having the film tight enough to turn the spacing spindle. I encourage you to see my video on How to Load a Pentacon Six, here: How to load the Pentacon Six

It's indeed a old camera so do does the hasselblad and other older camera's And overlapping = indeed a incorrect loaded film. I bought one few months ago not used for 10 years in good condition. Frames are all good at summer time and wintertime. But I used it few weeks ago and frames were good even with cold harsh day but the shutter failed me big time. I shot a few frames in the forests and 2 weeks later some in the city and I only had 3 frames left which I shot on a photoshoot. Sadly 4 frames were no image (on dia its transparent) and 1 frame had big light leak (at the last frame I shot in the forests) So it means the camera of me sat to "long" un-used so the grease will dry and gave these problems.
So fun part is I shot more than 30+ times at home which it also sat for a while but in a warm environment (grease will be less stiff). All shutter speeds were good and opening + closing good.
This cure's indicates dry'd up grease.
The PentaconSixTL is not greatly engineered camera but really fun to shoot with if its serviced Yes I still need to do this... Or by myself.

    For "Buck Sellers":
CZcams "Reply" button does not work so I can't "reply" to your comment, but here is the answer. The Zenit 3M is a Soviet 35mm SLR made apparently between 1962 and 1970. Specifications were way behind the international norm for 35mm SLR cameras of that era, so it uses a 39mm screw mount for the lens, but Leica lenses cannot be focussed to infinity on it because of the increased flange distance required for the mirror. It's mirror is not instant-return, so it doesn't sound as though your camera is faulty. Here is a web link on the camera, although I don't have this camera and so can't vouch for the accuracy of the information given: camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Zenit_3M
I am, however, sure that you can derive much satisfaction from using the Zenit 3M, and that it is possible to produce great photographs with it.
Instant-return mirrors did not become the norm for medium-format cameras, including the top prestigious camera, the Hasselblad 500C, until decades later.

I have a Zenit 3m that the mirror also stays up on till the film advance lever is actuated for the next shot.....So is this camera also designed that way or is it a malfunction ? ..thanks in advance

what is a good price for pentacon six TL? somebody in my area selling it for $150 that comes with Prism Finder, Carl Zeiss f2,8/80mm lens & i am interested but i'm not sure about his price. thank you sir in advance.

    • @PentaconSixExpert
      @PentaconSixExpert  Před 8 lety

If the camera and the lens are in good cosmetic and working condition, US$150 is a good price, from a buyer's point of view, even if the prism is a plain (non-metering) prism. If it is a TTL metering prism, the price is a bargain, assuming that everything works. However, when I buy a Pentacon Six that has probably not been used for years, I always send it and the lens for a full service (clean, re-lubrication and adjustment), before using it to take pictures. Even allowing for that, the price sounds very good, from the buyer's point of view.

Thank you for a quick response. it has dials on top. i think it's TTL prism metering . in mint, almost looks like unused condition. thank you again sir. more power & God bless.

For general information on the prisms, see here: www.pentaconsix.com/Prisms.htm You can see more on the metering prism here: www.pentaconsix.com/metering.htm That page also has links to my CZcams videos on how to operate the prism.
      God bless you.
