You, Me & the RV
The sound you heard was me falling off my seat when I heard the price. We're full timers in a 43 ft Dutch Star that's 10 years old. I have a rough time considering paying someone to wash mine. While in Elephant Butte, NM last week, I got a quote to wash and dry mine for $630 - 😳. I'm still at a point in life where I can wash AND wax mine with no problems. And having painted cars, I can do a pretty good job. No doubt your rig looks gorgeous, but I'll hang back for now and enjoy the time outside, cleaning my rig and saving for new tires. Thanks for sharing so much about the process.
OMG!! I was so tickled to recognize the driveway when you turned off the road. We had our Airstream and truck ceramic coated two years ago right after they opened the shop in Tallahassee. Briston was running a one-man shop at the time, and he did an awesome job. We have been thrilled with the difference it has made to the exterior of our vehicles. All I have to do to clean them is foam on Release, give it a couple of minutes and a quick wipe, rinse with a hose, and run a microfiber cloth around to get the worst of the water off. Even a hard rain leaves them shinier. Ruby looks beautiful and will thank you in the long term. You will LOVE it!
I had my 2020 4runner professional ceramic coated the week I bought it new. I considered it an investment knowing I was not selling it. Today, she looks as good as the day I bought her and washing her it a breeze. Rudy has been brought back to her former self.
That’s why I never put decals on a painting surface; too much of a chance of scratching the paint and just getting the glue off is a pain. We have the visited state map and going to put it on plexiglass and hang the up on a sign holder.
They did a beautiful job. 16:59 I was very impressed by Phil. For Ruby's sake, he broke the golden rule of the military world. He put his hands in his pockets.... Truly he is a man of dedication to his RV. 😃
I the Marines we called those pockets "Navy gloves" :)
That's an Army rule you are told to break when troubleshooting powered equipment, one hand goes in your pocket and you have to secure your metal dogtags and chain.
@@donhediger5072 My dad (electrician) gave me the same advice. Keep one hand in your pocket when working with electrical components. LOL He was a Military Civil Engineer.
It looks very nice!!
Wow! Hope you had a great time in my town. I have lived in Tallahassee for 50 years and had no idea that we had this business here. Looks like they did a fabulous job. Congratulations.
Love it! You two are awesome! You nailed it.
We just purchased a travel trailer and had the dealer put ceramic coating on it before we brought it home. Haven’t washed it yet but we did have some cold snaps and rain and it still looks good.
Have safe travels!
We just went through about a 2 month process of trying to erect a 15 x40 RV carport at our house. I drew up site plans and tried working with 4 different RV carport companies that just didn't have what I thought was the moxie to lower the costs. Plus, the City of Yucaipa CA threw not only $1500 in building permits at us, but a $2800 Special Use Permit because it was a metal structure that didn't conform to the houses' architecture!!!! We ixnayed the cover idea, and just decided last week that we would do everything we can just to protect our new 2023 Reflection 320MKS from all the elements, and I knew ceramic coating was the first step in starting that process. I got a few bids for it, but all of them were for either a 3 year or 5 year warranty. Now, my understanding is that the plastic decals and such are tough to protect even with ceramic coating, but at least the front cap which is painted and facing the SoCal sun is the most we need to focus on, but I when I saw the word PERMANENT in your video description, it perked my attention that it might be possible to get longer term protection due to your video. Of course, the biggest issue we have that I don't think you have is that we've got a TPO roof membrane, which still requires semi-annual or annual attention (as I'm sure your MH has a solid roof), but that can be dealt with as we would need to do that regardless. I'm curious as to exactly how "permanent" the warranty is for your $6k?!?!?!
Just saying that I am with you in my dreams watching you two! Even though I am in my 70's, I cannot do the tours/walking/travels you two share with us!
Wow! Rubie is looking amazing! Yep those guys at Master Applied Coatings did an increadable job! Know of Vinnie's and that they had a shop here on the east coast. Congrats! Smart move on keeping the health of your rig. Safe travels!
We did stay at the Tallahassee Car Museum two years ago starting out on our second trip out West leaving from FL. We loved the location and had a wonderful time strolling through and looking at the cars as well as every collectible item possible.
Highly recommended by us.
Ruby looks great!
Love you guys! ❤️
That is awesome!
God Bless both of you .❤.
This was so fun. Never been there still stuck working. But I have to say its gorgeous there🫶🫶🫶❤
We enjoyed the Tallahassee Auto Museum Harvest Host. Nice museum and admission is cheaper than a bottle of wine from a winery! Great selection of cars, pianos, and other artifacts.
Looks awesome guys......well done!
Thanks so much!
We are less than two hours from Margaritaville. Haven’t camped there yet. It’s not a destination on our bucket list.
We had the ceramic coating applied to our camper before bringing it home. It washes up so easy!!
We loved that place. Going back there for the Tiffin Rally in April. 1:02
Looks great and enjoyed the video!
I checked & plan to have my new F450 Limited ceramic coated, including aluminum wheels and glass. The cost of having dually done is a bit above $1000.
So the moral of the story is get the paint fixed before you get your rig ceramic coated. As far as what to use to wash the rig get a natural wool wash mitt and use ONLY 100% cotton towels for any drying. Most synthetic materials are harder than the paint and will scratch it. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
I did my motorcycle and car a few years ago, best move ever, especially on my bike. I use a foam gun, then light soapy wiped own, rinse with power washer and blow dry with leaf blower
Beautiful Ruby. This was a great informative video. The micro fiber towel's edges and seams are sewn with nylon threads which in itself is very abrasive. The lesson on how to fold the towel to avoid using the seam edges was very helpful. I have cut the seamed edges on some of my micro fiber towels to use strictly for polishing.
I plan to find them without seams......I heard they are out there somewhere.
Would love to do this! Fun to watch you get it done and look forward to possibly "some day" for us. Always enjoy your content.
Its totally worth it! Thanks for hanging out with us!
Our coach is being ceramic coated this week by a company near Red Bay Alabama. 36 ft class A for $3600.
It’s expensive but I think worth it. We had our Airstream coated last October along with a few other maintenance items. Briston and crew are great! And your rig looks amazing.
Thanks!!! Agree with all of the above. It is an investment for sure.
Hey, I put usa map on backside of my basement door keeps it nice from UV and if I scratch it changing a stick no big deal its on the backside.
We just had ours ceramic coated last month in Austin, TX. We've had it 9 months and decided to get it done before too much damage (rock chips, scratches, etc) had been done. Hoping to hit the road full time next year so she'll be in the elements a lot more. Ruby's looking good!!
That was smart to get it done before too much damage.
Lookin good y'all.
Honestly, this was your best video yet (especially the live "stop-action") - Well done!
The topic was well covered as well, hitting many nails right on the head.
Luckily wifey and I can spend weeks in less than 200 sq feet and get along quite well - probably a rarity. - Cheers!
Y’all are awesome hopefully one day we get to join you full-time
I hope so too!
Very nice, expensive but worth it for sure. It also saves you and gives you more time for fun and other things!
Totally!
Ruby looks amazing. Great investment to your rolling home.
It really is!
Beautiful! She does look brand new. Congrats. 🎉 👋😁
Yes! Thank you!
i have ceramic coated my pickup , and have done the nose cone of the RV , it does help with bugs , my coach is 20 years old and get compliments , and the 10 year rule parks have all let us in
Washing your RV? Oh, that is spomething we should be doing... We had a 27 foot 5th wheel just washed and waxed last year for $350. That was a nice job, but of course bugs and grime comes back. Ruby looks marvelous! Safe travels.
Nice job on CVN Ruby😊
Thanks! 😄
Your coach turned out terrific! We have a Newmar with a 3M product called “Diamond Shield” on the forward facing areas on the front cap. I don’t know if Tiffen does the same thing on their coach’s. If so, did they remove the Diamond Shield before applying the ceramic coating, or do they apply the ceramic coating over the diamond shield?
Yes, we do have the diamond shield and they did not remove it as ours is in good shape still.
Amazon has the USA map and stickers like the one that you had on Ruby.
We got our clear coated at purchase and the will reapply free every four years
😊 WOW!
Try to buy a neutral ph soap when you wash it.....I get all my vehicles boats ceramic coated
Thanks for sharing. Just a thought could you put the map on the inside of one of the basement doors? But then again maybe you want it displayed.
That's an idea. We need to find a new map first!
We're looking at ordering a new RV from NIRVC and have them do the ceramic coat. They will do a "paint correction" before doing the ceramic coat. Their body shop is the best for RVs in my opinion. If you don't do the correction first it will only emphasize the blemishes in the paint. All new vehicles have blemishes. It takes them a full week to do the job. They guarantee it for 5 years if you bring it back to them every year for free refreshing
Yep, stayed at that Harvest Host. Plenty of space but I recall that you're locked in at night.
They have not locked the gate the last few times we have stayed there.
I really like that harvest host
We're in Tallahassee, in a motel room, while our Airstream is being ceramic coated at M.A.C. It'll be ready Wednesday. We live full-time in, out of, and around our Airstream, but at the end of the day we have our own bed in our own traveling home. I ... do ... not ... like ... sleeping ... in ... buildings.
Sweet! They will make it shine like new!!!
I didn't see a discount code. Do you have one?
Still on your Italy tour in my mind you Two! Wonderful trip I enjoyed you bringing me with you! Phil, I think you need a trim! (LOL).
LOL
Thanks Phil for sharing your adventures with us landlovers!!!! (LOL)@@todayissomeday
Ruby really looks nice. ZZ Top sings, "Sharp Dressed Man", but in this case, "Sharp Dressed Ruby."
Looks awesome. I got an estimate for our rig and I was surprised at the price. More reasonable than I thought. Did you guys have the diamond shield on the front? Did they take it off ? Thanks for the video.
Thanks. Yes we have the diamond shield and they did not remove it. It was still in good shape. I will have it done when it starts to look bad and then I will swing in for Master Applied Coatings to seal it in!
How long does it last? And is it easier & cheaper for them to do it at the intervals I'm asking about, since it's on there now? Thanks, Ruby does look great! Jayman...
It is suppose to last a very long time.....they say permanent. Not sure about the intervals. You would have to call them.
Did you have to take the Magne Shade magnets off too?
No, they stayed on. They worked around it.
It's beautiful! Wish I knew what was in that box ... ! 😂
We call it "magic"! LOL
Yes! 🤣@@todayissomeday
Hello. Were you in Nashville heading North on 65 this evening? I swore that I passed you around 4:30 pm. Was an Allegro towing a red Jeep. 😊
Enjoyed the video. Only question, Our coach has the DIAMOND SHIELD on the front...would that have to be removed? I do have another question and not sure if posting it here is appropriate. Do you have a water softener? What is the silver tank in the wet bay?
The diamind shield did stay on as it was still in good repair. We do also have a water softener. We did a whole video install it last year: czcams.com/video/O2F_r7lty7A/video.html
Hi guys - Boy, Ruby looks 👀 Amazing!! We have heard about Vinnie through KYD. They take their Airstream to him in California.
When’s the cruise? Hope you have a great time!! Safe travels 😊❤️!!
The cruise is next month. We are super excited for it.
94 Lazy Daze-I wash & wax her religiously twice a year. If we get from point A to B without issue we a living the Lazy Daze life.
Cheers
Looks fantastic! I would just like to get mine out and drive it!! :( I'm too old to wash it myself, and paying to get it washed is rather pricey too! :(
What about the diamond shield? Did you still have that on ?
Yes. Ours was still in good shape. They cleaned and coated it as well.
Did you consider coating your car too? It gets hammered as it’s towed behind the RV. I’m now thinking about ceramic coating my pickup. Thank you for this very informative video. Safe travels.
We did, just not now. We may later.
Can you get the coating on a rig that does not have full body paint ?
Yes. The have apply a formula designed specifically for each rigs sidewall make up.
Nice product, but too expensive. 2 guys labor for 3 days, $2000. Ceramic Coat material, $500-$750. Overhead for building $500. Not sure how $6K is derived. Huge profits.
It is an investment for sure.
@@todayissomedayI so agree ! My hubs getting appointment .. Thank you very much
Hey there Tom! Just wanted to help out a bit with some of your numbers. $2000 for labor would assume we have an $83/ hour shop rate, which is way below any state average. $500-$750 would be the cost of getting Ceramic from over seas. $500 will get us the roof above our heads, but you can't forget the walls 😉
You have no idea what their business overhead is.
Tom’s numbers may not be accurate, but $6000+ (ours would be more at 44Ft), is not something many of us retired folks have the money to do this. And when we were in California they did a jet coat (also used by the military) on our 35 ft 5th wheel and it was much less ($1900 at the time). And it didn’t require any additional trips to reapply as stated in the video.
Thanks for the wave in Sealy on i10 today!
Took a minute for recognition to click.
~Ruby Red Raptor
Thanks for not telling everyone I was stuffing my face with a Buc-ees burrito!! 😂😂😂
Thanks for the wave!! Have a great day!
Ruby looks like a new coach. Well worth the money to protect your investment!
100% agree!
Really nice! BUT, $6k, wow, unfortunately not in our budget. But man would I love to have this done to ours.
That is why it tooks us so long to get it done.
Looks nice, but I think it the price was quite a bit more than it should have been. Basically, $170 / ft. We have a 2017, 33AA, and will continue the hand cleaning. Thx for showing this, as Ruby turned out nice!
Thanks. It is an investment for sure. We have been saving for it for a while now.
How’s the warranty? Did they give you ceramic spray to re-enhance to coating? You can’t beat DI water when washing your rig.
No extra to spray. It is a one and done. Fingers crossed it holds up to the TX sun.
That’s awesome! I need to do that to my 10 year young Allegro 32CA! Mine is Black, tan and gold in color, so I’ll bet it would look amazing after a treatment! What did that set you back approximately, if you don’t mind me asking? I’m certain it would be worth it in the long run. Thanks for sharing! GO Tiffin! 😎 Oh … and BTW, what’s the best way to clean up the Allegro badge lettering? Mine … not looking too good.😏
For our size and cleaning that needed to be done, around $6K'ish. The letering will just have to be replaced. I don't think those can be polished.
I've thought of getting the ceramic coating on our Fleetwood Discovery, but ours have diamond shield on the front. How would the ceramic coating work? Do they take the diamond shield off?
No. They left ours on and cleaned and coated right over it. Ours was in pretty good shape still. If it is in bad repair, I would remove or replace it first. Give them a call, they can explain it.
Ok, thanks for the response! Sounds good
I think they did a really great job and it looks fantastic. At this juncture in my life I cannot justify or afford a 6k upgrade to the outside. Cleaning, washing and maintaining the exterior is a lot of work and yes over time it might equal the price but I just can't shell out that kind of cash. The men that did the work on yours I have no doubt work very hard and probably see a small return on their labor. It's too bad this couldn't be reversed just a little.
If i had full body paint , I would invest in Ceramic.
Too many sticker graphics on my Alliance.
Great video, as usual !
Thanks 👍 They can apply their coating on the all types of set ups....including stickers on the Alliance.
Did they also put the coating on the solar panels?
They put a different formula of the ceramic coating on the panels and windows.
Awesome! That should help keep them cleaner as well! @@todayissomeday
The rig looks real good. Ceramic coating itself is not a very expensive product. It's all about the labor $6000 way over priced. They don't last forever. You do need to apply top coats every once in a while. They are more prone to water spots. So it is best to wash using a DI water. Safe traveling
Actually, their formula does not require additional coats. It is permanent. We only need a touch up if we damage the RV.
Now what I want to know is....what is Phil going to do with all that spare time ?!!! LOL
As far as what the camera shows, it really looks nice.
I've talked to a few people that put it on persoal vehicles, and one show car. Everyone said it was absolutely the best money they ever spent.
Only complaint they had was, like Phil was doing, had to get rid of all the cleaning stuff they had.
Looks like ya'll made a wise investment. Time on the road will be the test. I certainly hope it holds up for ya'll.
God bless ya'll and stay safe out there on the road, in your (amost)new shinning rig.
Hi Phil and Stacy.. Now that you have had the coating for a bit, do you still love and recommend it? We have an appointment in a month and will be driving over a 1000 miles to have it done. Not an inexpensive trip but hoping so worth it. One other question, did you have your solar panels coated? Also, do they ceramic coat the glass windows. All the best to you two. Love your videos. :)
We love the coating! It looks shiny all the time now. I need to rinse it off, but I haven't pulled my meaf blower from storage so I can blow it dry. They put a different coating on the solar panels and windows that only last about 2 years. The coating on the RV paint will last forever.
Appreciate the reply guys! We are having our Motorhome and Tow car coating applied next week. Pretty excited. I will be interested to see what they use on the glass and if it can be purchased since it needs to be applied every two years. Safe travels and keep up the good work!!
How long does that last?
Master Applied says permanent. So far we love it. I haven't washed it since we had t done and it still looks just as shiny. We will see what it looks like when I am able to get on the roof and clean it. I normally get while streaks down the side after wards. They did not coat the roof.
@@todayissomeday, do they not coat the roof? Why did you not do the roof?
Do you still need a U.S. map like what you had? I believe I have an extra one just like it?
Thanks. We found one online.
Would be interesting what a Lance 1172 truck camper would cost...
I noticed you didn't have a Washington sticker on your map. Anytime you want to come up, let us know and you have a place to stay. We live on Whidbey Island near a Naval Air Base.
We dont! We really need to get up there too! Hopefully we can make it in the next year or two!
@todayissomeday April of '25 we are seeing it full time, so I hope you can make while we're still here.
Nudge nudge…
Would love to have you come up to the PNW.And maybe a small meetup
eBay has the exact map!

Did they ceramic coat your slides? I was told that Tiffin didn’t recommend it because it would make the sides to slick so the seals would not work correctly. Is there any truth to this?
Yes, they coated the slides and so far they work as they did before they were coated.
I didn't hear the name of the RV resort in Florida. Have you had any salt water corrosion in Florida? How far away from the ocean do you think to not have any salt water corrosion?
We were at Margaritaville in Auburndale, FL
Did you ask if they have a military discount?
We did not ask.
I just got a price on my 35 foot class A of 9000 to 11000 to wrap my unit!!! Just saying ps I know that’s not what y’all did but it’s something for other people to think about!!!
A huge investment for sure.
By the way I would LOVE to have RUBY !!!!!!
Great to do but $$$. I'll stick to the car wax as I go. Harvest host great tip.
7 for 9 from 3pt range....no look....not bad odds.....
LOL
Why not put the stickers on the inside of your TV hatch or maybe the cargo doors.
Good idea! If we decide to do stickers again, we will keep that in mind.

He is like a kid in a toy store ...Keep your hands off. No touchy.
Sorry guys, $6,000 is way too much. I have found reputable applications for $4,000.
That is great if you find something comparable for that price. Just make sure it is permanent and does not require repeat applications every 2-4 years. The chemical compounds they used on Ruby bond with the RV and do not require repeat applications. It is also rated 9H for hardness (diamond is 10H) so be sure to ask about the hardness as well. It will be a determinant in if it will last.
One thing to always check, no matter the price, is how long it will last or how often they recommend you get it reapplied. If you have to reapply it every couple of years, that price can add up fast.
Nope, nail polish smells like THAT! Where do you think all the nail polish ideas come from? CAR PAINTS! LOL Thanks for this video S & P!
LOL
