  • Today we're going to visit the famous Campus Martius and we'll see how it looked like during the emperor Augustus, when the famous buildings were erected there - the mausoleum of Augustus, the Ara Pacis (altar of Peace), the Augustan obeliscus, used as sundial (now on Piazza Montecitorio), the initial version of Pantheon, built by Agrippa, and others. Enjoy!
    And our main goal is to create the most extensive, detailed and accurate virtual 3D reconstruction of Ancient Rome, and eventually release it to everyone using the game engine! Join and follow us!

    This (3:00) view of the walk-way leading to the Mausoleum is absolutely breathtaking from the first step all the way to the main structure. What amazing things humans are capable of when they have a common purpose.

    Interesting to see a period not usually covered by virtual reconstructions. I love the detail of mausoleum of Augustus having painted decorations when new, which have faded by the time of Constantine.

    I would have loved to be a fly on the wall to see all of this that you're highlighting. Amazing!
    I also see that the Romans adopted so much from the Etruscans---in architecture, planning, the placement of tombs, etc. Those were heady times in Rome! No wonder why Rome was considered the center of the universe back then.

    Another great rendering! Especially admire the attention to detail with agrippas more modest pantheon building. However just wondered what your thoughts are regarding the horologium of augustus because whenever you see artists depictions its often shown as a large rectangle courtyard marked out with bronze in a butterfly shape to represent the time changes over the seasons. You have chosen to depict it as a simple strip for the obelisks shadow to follow, so i was just wondering your thoughts on that. Not a complaint mind, what youre doing is awsome

  • @SoulEternalPeaceWarrior77

    I WISH they could rebuild this exact model around the original structure. Imagine how cool it would be walking by it in Rome? 😃

  • @alessandrosantarelli5068
    @alessandrosantarelli5068 Před 2 lety +1

    Very beautiful, amazing as the other renderings! Only two comments. The Domitian Stadium that you can glimpse was not yet built at that time, and recent studies of archeologists working on the mausoleum of Augustus, have unveiled a slightly different shape of it (visible in some web sites). Anyway, your videos are the best way to figure out how Imperial Rome was, definitively!

  • @michaelstaengl1349

    Your videos about ancient Rome are always the very best renderings I've seen on YT. Since there surely will be no time machines your videos are the best thing right after a certain DeLorean or a certain blue phone box.
    These videos always let me dream about the past eras of Rome and they inspire me to fantasize what if the Romans kept these buildings fully intact to the present time.
    So:
    - Liked
    - Commented
    - Saved to my Imperium Romanum playlist.
    PS: in some videos, you're telling us what music you're using. This time not, like with your video about the Forum Romanum during the Augustan era.
    I tried to find it out via Siri or Shazam but those attempts failed.

    I have a question, what did "Princeps" meant to the romans? i guess something like prince but what did it meant.

    • @sotony7483
      @sotony7483 Před 2 lety +2

      Princeps means 'first man' or 'foremost leader' and using it meant Augustus could avoid using the word 'rex' (king), which the Romans detested (as Julius Caesar discoverd). The title 'imperator' originally meant 'successful general' and only later came to mean 'emperor'. 'Caesar' and 'Augustus' also become honorific titles associated with the emperor.
