  • In this video i am going to show you how to convert an old ATX pc power supply into a powerful (350 W) lab bench power supply in minimum cost
    hope you guys you will enjoy this ...!!!!

    WARNING -
    Computer power supply has a very high voltage capacitor , that could hold a potentially deadly charge !

    Ajay Nikam, I enjoyed your video and gave me a lot of insight on converting my ATX to a bench PSU. I enjoyed your video because it has all the HIGH MARKS of a DIYers and NO FANCY THIS OR FANCY THAT. And then, if someone wants to have a fancy looking PSU, they can just base their modified and upgraded project from your DOWN-TO-EARTH VIDEO. Great man!

    I like this build the best! There's plenty of room on this box for everything. I saw where one guy did an amp meter and a selector knob also a USB for phone charging which was nice but the box was so crowded on that PS that he had to cut the bolts off on his binding post just to squeeze it all in.

    I have a DC pump that I use for pumping oil. do you think I could use a computer power supply to run it? I figured since it hooks up to my 12v battery that it might work with the 12v power supply. it uses 13.5 amp. I have an old AT power supply that I want to try. it has an external on/off switch with a white, blue, brown and of course black for ground. wire harness has Black (ground), Yellow (12V), Red (5V), Orange (Power Good), Blue (-12V) and White (-5V) I believe. does this sound correct? do I need to put in resistors for an AT power supply? ty for your assistance. 🙂

    Nice video for converting tge ATX to bench supply.
    But You are using insulation tape on a heat sink to hold the resistors which will melt when the resistors get hot……. Not a good idea and you should use hear shrinks for the LED connections and terminal lugs for the wire connections, you can still change that, play it safe with your projects.
    Keep up your projects……..all the best

    Can we add frequency counter ? If yes wire connection please.

    Why did you parallel the load reistor?

    • @CreativeDesk
      @CreativeDesk  Před 5 lety +3

      Villjoy Amoranto if no load is connected the atx power supply automatically goes into cut off mode and hence to keep the atx power supply always on we must need to add dummy load so some current flow through resistor n keep atx power supply always on

    i want to charge my car bettery with computer power suply. But in power suply there is a yellow color wire having voltage is 12v thats ok,,, but ampere is low as about 1ampere to 2ampere only (which is not suffient to charge my car bettery). My problem is that how to increase the amperage of (yellow 12v wire) so that it charge my bettery easily.
    regds,
    thanks. plz reply in detail to solve my problem

    I watched with sound off. Otherwise ok. Who exactly listen (On Purpose) to that screeching noise or is it a frequency that keeps bugs away? Nice power supply!

      Yes, what solder, shrink tubing and load resistor. Shocking development, local guy is electrocuted, story at 10 PM. Neighbors said he kept to himself, a quite guy but seemed nice, this reporter learned!

      Public speaking is the #1 fear of people. Write a script or over-dubbed the video while editing. The target audience has to be determined, is it 18-30 year olds? Probably not. People, hobbies, or those like me looking to run 12 Vdc auto parts or creating a 5 Vdc power to run a test circuit for intermittent wipers that it am building for my 1967 C10 pickup. I've been an automotive service tech since 1971 and imports & Yamaha where my thing, but fixed everything tractors to antique cars. Decades later, forced to change jobs and landed a teaching job for auto with 6 of 30 classes being electrical. The job was contract thru Raytheon working for GM, holding 4 hr seminars with 28 subjects. But you stand in front of 100+ techs & shop owners plus tech school teachers. Using a LCD projector, screen, laptop and clicker in pocket. I had to go into components, wiring, strategies, truth tables and diagnostics all without a book. I took photos, screen shot captured off scan-tool and added heavily into the power point. I was helping these guys make more money and fix it right. You have to find what works for you but always thing of the people watching. There are a lot of simple creative ways from props to stop action. Watch some "ThisOldTony" as machinist who works with metal and machinery. I am jealousy of his equipment but he would feel the same about my tools even sewing machines. Just look around and use a few tricks to spice-up a boring subject, just make sure you are prepared! I would have watched it three times if you called your power supply "Jeremiah" and used a magic plastic wizard frog and played "Three Dog Night"s song, Jeremiah was a bull frog, was a good friend of mine! Best wishes!

      @@CreativeDesk , The way you connected them would only give you 2 1/2 ohms of resistance, not 10 ohms

    LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER PERSON THAT IS TRYING TO ELECTROCUTE HIMSELF. THESE CONNECTIONS ARE NOT EVEN SOLDERED CORRECTLY & THEY WILL FAIL, YOU SHOULDN'T TAPE THE LOAD RESISTORS TO A HEATSINK. THIS BUILD IS TOTALLY DANGEROUS !!!

    • @CreativeDesk
      @CreativeDesk  Před 5 lety

      i knw bt latter on i use shrink tubes n good solder. n heatsink to load resistor

    • @zs1dfr
      @zs1dfr Před 4 lety

      I agree! And the holes drilled for the binding post connectors are not big enough, so the thin insulating tube doesn't go through the metal. It looks as though all those binding posts will eventually short to the chassis. Your warning about dangerous voltages and being careful, at the beginning of the video, is not heeded by yourself. FOLKS: PLEASE DON'T DO IT THIS WAY

      May be u have power button on mains line in power supply
      So just use another button to connect green and black wire
