Great playthrough. Thanks for showing 'The Thing', Mike. Besides the mandatory Core Box I plan to buy only 2 Feature Films: 'Into the Void' (Alien) and 'Panic at Station 2891' (The Thing), because these are one of my favorite movies of all time. I just realized the number of Station 2891 is 1982 backwards which is the year when 'The Thing' movie came out.
I think it would be a more interesting game mechanic that when an organism encounters a victim that is alone, you roll to see if the victim is converted or killed
Good job! I got this as my first Final Girl set yesterday and had my first play through last night. Thought I'd have a look just to make sure I was understanding everything right (and to get some tips).
I love hearing how excited you get when you role a star haha I’m the exact same way! I play with my boyfriend and whenever the blue boyfriend meeple comes out, he always makes me try and save him 😂
I believe 26:29 if there is a victim and a final girl in the same space, the victim always gets attacked first UNLESS a card (event cards i think) says you carry over the damage You dont have to listen to this but i think its thematic and a bit easier on you sometimes

Great showcase of this feature film! Thanks for bringing it to the table. I might be wrong, but it seems like you had more than the hand limit of 10 cards at the start of round five, however.
Thanks for this. I couldn't wrap my head around what it meant by shuffling the mutation cards (the 3 larger cards that represent each mutant) as there were 6 cards (2 for each mutant) and then some had killer actions and other were a person. At first I shuffled all 6, then I realized they had different mutants on them so I figured you shuffled each set for a mutant, but then I was like, what does it mean if the one with just a person comes up. Seems like the instructions could have had more detail there... although once I saw the answer it seems like it should have been obvious.
Just tried this today, bit of a pain to set-up but a vastly different experience than some of the later sets. I delayed testing two of the Exposed until nearly the last two turns ( the first one died of Frostbite, and he turned out to be Safe 😞) I did kill one of them with a knife and critical blow, but the bad roll I got killed me in the process. First time I managed to run the terror deck down too.
35:04 Gotta listen to this finale on repeat. Finally tried this out myself too last night. Still digesting the rules but with the hidden monsters, this version of the game plays out pretty cleanly. That frostbite is brutal, though.
Ah, looks great! I backed all the Season 1 content, and the Season 2 KS launched before I really explored much of the first batch ... so I let it pass me by. Very much regretting it now, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to pick up the individual titles in retail after this round fulfills. Nice video, Mike - I always enjoy your playthroughs.

Great gameplay video :) Will check out the other feature films that I dont own :) The dog is less loyal than you make it out to be though ;) It wouldve run when you took damage from failing some cards earlier and not been around to damage the opponent or protect from its 4 damage attack! I think you are actually dead there^^

I just played this one and it didn’t go so hot. I had all 3 exposed victims become assimilated and 2 of them quickly ganged up on me. I might have still had a fighting chance if they didn’t have 4 extra health from minor dark powers so instead of being able to quickly dispatch one, I basically just scratched it before they just ate my face.
I thought here is a special setup "Before setting up the Item decks, find a Two-Way Radio and place it in your inventory", did you get this item before game start?
Incase anyone's at all curious, I did some quick math (correct me if I'm wrong on this math, as I said this was quick math) but there is a roughly a 61.11% (22/36) chance of getting just 1 killer, 35.19%(19/54) of getting 2 killers, and a 3.7% (1/27) chance of getting all 3 killers. Edit: Should not have done math while going to bed lol fixed it!

3 Killers should be 1/27 I think? Each time we test and is killer chance is 1/3, 1/3^3=1/27. And my result is 11/18(61.1%) for 1 Killer, 19/54(35.2%) for 2 Killers and 1/27(3.7%) for 3 Killers.
@@user-cx7dx7pu3v shouldnt it be 1/3 for 1 killer? Because there is only 1 way this happens: 2/3 for the first test (human), 1/2 for the second test (human again). thats 2/3*1/2*1 = 1/3. = 33.33%
It depends on how many of the terror cards are from the Station's set. Most if not all of them have a frostbite > Heli symbol on them. Also one of the events is a Radio Operator as a Special Victim, who can help move the Heli along using Time units or something.
I think I said this at the start of the video, but the Van Ryder team gave me an early copy of just this set at PAX U. Those ones were air shipped prototypes I think, so it doesn’t mean all of our copies are coming soon unfortunately
Am a big fan of Hostage Negotiator but the theme of Final Girl is not really my thing but it does look great. Do you think the differences/improvements in FG would compensate for the lack of excitement of the theme?
Maybe? A lot of my enjoyment is in the theme, since I love horror movies. But that being said, I do love the movement aspect which is generally missing from hostage negotiatior
Do each of the ‘Movies’ have a different feel to them? So if I was careful picking ones that mirror movies I did like (The Thing, Alien) maybe they got anither buyer!

You are doing the Panic mechanism incorrectly. If the Killer kills a Victim in a space where there are other Victims present during this round, the rest panic and flee to adjacent spaces. Not every single one. After all, why would someone in the outdoors panic because a death happened several rooms over and they couldn't possibly know?
I think you are wrong too, the correct one is if victim(s) died this turn (no matter why and no matter where), and there is/are victim(s) at the lacation with Killer, then they panic, died victim(s) do not need to be killed by killer or be with panic victim(s).
To be fair, in the Organism rules, the Exposed Victims (Red, Grey and Black) DO panic every Panic phase regardless. The idea being that Killer(s) are still stalking the halls while incognito. So it's to simulate that.
I didn't fully understand your question (whether you think they SHOULD or should NOT be above), but in this play the test kits were kept separate from the item decks, with one nearby each, so that (as in round 2) when I searched I could also take a free test kit. Does that answer your question?

Is it just me or is anyone else wondering why he never used the close call for it's intended purpose. He could just reroll one of the bad dice to try and get something better. I only ever see him discarding it to turn a three or four roll into a success. Maybe he is not much of a gambler. 😂
I do the same thing unless I cannot use it to change the die face as that guarantees a success instead of a 1 in 3 chance (and at the cost of just 1 more card).

I saw a few effects that scaled based on the number of enemies, but it does seem swingy.
Yeah, the big one is that the finale effect doesn't do anything until only one monster is left, but still, it would be way tougher to have 2 or 3!

I feel like the helicopter needs a slight rework. It should move passively and fly faster should make move it at an accelerated pace.
That would certainly make the map a lot easier. Simple enough to houserule it though

Can you use the series 1 core box with the series 2 features ?
I believe everything is modular and compatible, but you need the series 1 core regardless to play anything else

Rolling a die with a 1/3 chance of it becoming better isn't smart gambling ;)
