    • @dropped3540
      @dropped3540  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah it came with vbrakes, but they won’t work with sti shifters. Going from a 26in to 700c the cantilever brakes wouldn’t reach the braking surface even with an adapter. I had some long reach road bike brake calipers, and was able to mount them into the fender mount holes. I did have to drill them out just a little wider for the brakes to fit. Thanks for watching

    I've done a 26 to 700c conversion on a 1991 trek mtb. The only brakes I could find that work using the originating posts are the Box Three long arm V-brakes, the pads only hit half of the braking surface but have plenty of stopping power.

    • @dropped3540
      @dropped3540  Před 3 lety +2

      Assuming it’s a mtb. Yes I would assume they will fit. The big issue is having having your brakes and wheels lineup. I had to use long reach caliper brakes off a road bike and they just barely fit. I have 40c tires on I could pry go a little bigger as long as I’m not using knobby tires. But even with the 40c wheels I have to let air out of the tires to get them in and out

    • @dropped3540
      @dropped3540  Před 3 lety +3

      yeah, you should be able to. If your going to convert to 700c wheels, you will have to see what brakes and mounting style you will need to use. If you are keeping the flat handle bars and shifters, v brakes will be fine, but if your converting to drop bars and sti shifters, the pull ratio will be different, so you would need canti or caliper brakes, and pry need a matching rear derailleur. so it is possible. If you have extra parts and time its a fun project. Or just extra money to spend.lol.... Otherwise you may be just as well off looking on facebook market place for a deal on a road bike that is ready to go.. Thanks for watching, and i'm hoping to get the final build video for my conversion up soon.

    No issues with assembly for me czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
