    In this experiment, you'll learn how to take white milk, dish soap, and food coloring, and use these to display an amazing color changing rainbow effect in milk. What happens is that the milk fat interacts with the soap causes the milk to go wild, taking the food coloring along for the ride! Its easy to do and 100% safe. This Amazing science trick is truly amazing! View more Science and Math videos at ScienceAndMath.com.

    Interesting, the host states at timestamp 6:30, that the milk has fats and proteins "BAKED" into the milk. Hmmmm, baked? So cows have a little oven inside of them? How do they know when the milk is done baking? This seems rather confusing.... :P

    • @ardekye
      @ardekye Před 4 lety

      @@rimasiraki5356 Two factors are at play here:
      - The surface tension of the milk prevents the fats and proteins from moving around, however soap is a surfactant, meaning it reduces the surface tension of whatever it is mixed with.
      - One side of a soap molecule attracts water whilst the other side repels water but attracts fats and proteins. Because milk is mostly water, fat and protein the soap both attracts and repels the liquid around it, giving it a lot of energy.
      When the milk around the soap gets this energy it wants to move around, but the only space it can move into is the space that has a lower surface tension. As the soaps surfactant properties take effect and spreads outward from the soaps point of impact then the space around the point of impact becomes the space that the milk with energy can move into.

      @@ardekye Okay, so the surface liquid farther from the soap moves outward as proteins and fats fill the area with lower surface tension near the soap?
      I didn't realize the role of surface tension here. I tried replacing the milk with vegetable oil (pure fat) and it didn't work at all.
