    My husband was the 4th generation to grow up on his family farm, but he wanted to be an engineer. His Mom supported his dream, so he went to college, and became an aeronautical engineer. A few years ago he helped his widowed Mom clean out the large farm house and all the outer buildings when she decided to move to a smaller house in town. He found 100 years of "stuff" that nobody could ever throw away - ice saws, old toys, bikes, tools, etc... They never had much money as farmers and they kept everything in case it could be used again, or used to fix something else. He learned to fix everything as a kid - even windmills. That's why he wanted to become an engineer and not be a farmer. He did save a trailer full of "stuff!" I was so mad because we have a small house in town. So, when I watched this video, I saw lots of hard work, love, and dreams.

    I moved into an apartment in 2003, it was on the top 5th floor and no elevator. No one wanted to rent it coz of the flight of stairs. I found a KJV bible in gold and leather bound from 1880s. What a find.

  • @marlindapeacock2130
    @marlindapeacock2130 Před 8 lety +34

    I think what happens is people collect too much stuff and by the time they decide to move it is so overwhelming they just leave most of it behind. If they are older their children do not know what to do with the things either, getting rid of that much stuff is very expensive. I wish I had that wood stove though, I must say they have the most beautiful wood stoves there. Thank you for the video, I have watched them all since I saw those containers I liked so much :)

    its so sad you see all of these empty properties that were once peoples homes etc and all of there memories ,photographs, furniture , ornaments toys in fact all kinds of memorabilia ,certain lifestyles were basic,now for just a roof over your head ,questions would be asked or demands to be met ,even to occupy any dwelling ,or even rules and regulations,does it have electricity, running water,shower,I do admire our ancestors ,the struggle the hardship and I think a lot of us have became so comfortable and really expected to want want want,and if I don't get It'' oh I am going to authorities, lots of these buildings were hand made by the owner and surrounding community,and they lived off the land,how many do now, and also where is our community spirit now,everyone wants to be rich,protected and a wall built around them ,and selfish, greedy ,to anyone below them

      EDUCATING LIBERAL-IDIOTS absolutely brilliant you are completely right 100% you are spot on ,and you get irritated because idiots who think so and so,as a shop ,oh he must be rich it's absolute bollocks,,my brother's had butcher shops, also very well long established traditional shops,that know the job inside out ,upside down ,you can have a junior immature degree xxxx can close your absolutely clean British shop down,,but leave so and so,down the street because they do not visit or want trouble with racial issues, which where fat, crap etc is just poured down the drains,kitchen and preparation areas are grime and filth ingrained in worktops fridges never cleaned,toilets scruffy,no hygiene there religion of not using toilet paper ,faeces etc,because where they have lived and come from its there normal living conditions in there country's , and these are serving and selling meals to take away etc and also,you have your common sense,you have been doing your job 50+60 years made to go back and study etc to receive THERE LICENSES to sell food,which costs more MONEY MONEY MONEY, anything these xxxx think up they can stop you trading,there's millions of things i can say,but it's the same with builders,plumbers,electricians etc oh you need a licence,, and now it goes right through our British system, if it's not for double yellow lines,in every street, back lane ,etc van or car clamped from thugs,who have stolen your vehicle,and your means of work, employment stopped,and government ,and police ,on the thugs side,not police fault but that is just a sliver of the system that's great Britain today

      Yeah, you can't really take anything from a calendar in these places. Sometimes old people will just not change a calendar for years... I've been in some elderly people's homes who have calendars on their walls from years ago.. Sometimes older people just don't give a f**k what's on their walls, they're just content that they're still alive..

    • @ExploreWithUs
      @ExploreWithUs Před 8 lety +1

      +John McMahon That's true, but there is no way an elderly person is living in this place. It's literally hours away from the nearest tiny town, and the roads up to the place are completely grown over in many locations. Most likely, some hunters might stay in the cabin on and off during hunting season.

    It looks to me like they were older people who lived through very hard times in their life,(like the depression) When that is the case people tend to hang onto any and everything. Like jars, bread ties, rubber bands, plastic grocery bags, etc... They never throw things away for fear that they'll maybe need it. The last one of the couple probably died or went into a nursing home. If they had children they were grown up with jobs, children, their own homes, etc... They are probably overwhelmed by the size of the job and they don't want to face it. They probably took out anything of real value and searched through all the places that older people tend to hide money. They probably had intentions of coming back and cleaning out but the job was too big to cope with, so there it sits. It's probably extra messy because strangers have been inside searching for money and treasures. Does this sound possible to anyone?

    I like that vintage black cast iron grandfather's clock ... man, it has a stove pipe coming from the top!..that goes way back before mechanical clock days ..this one mustof been run by a wood burner .

    I do wonder everytime I look at these abaded forgotten home's, because there are so many old thing's among the stof, that really have a great value, it is amazing that these old thing's can remain in these house's or mansion's. I think it is good, that these home's can be left in peace, but it is strange......

    It's a bit on the informal side. I didn't see the YT description until the video was over. I was guessing this was somewhere in Quebec or maybe Nova Scotia. Why does it look as if the ceilings are 5 feet high, is the stuff that thick? Too bad it ended up this way, something probably went seriously wrong with these people's lives.

    People who lived there were hoarders, not much signs of vandalism, lots of antiques and valuable things left behind, real pictures, amazes me and at the same time I feel sorry, very strange.

    Real nice videos. Actually a place can be abandoned for a long long long time. What matters is if the roof is solid and not damage, as soon as you get water damage and the roof is busted, then a house would probably not survive more than at most 20 years before it is completely destroyed. Most buildings cave in as the inside structure most of the time is wood, this is almost always the case for a "hytte" of house, cabin out in the woods.
    It is always sad when personal belongings are left behind, like photos and these things that often are important to the next generation and so on. Most other things are just "stuff" you can replace, but not the real personal things.
    Great video
