- Do Solid Shampoo Bars REALLY Last Longer? A Zero waste experiment.
I put this to the test for any one that has ever noticed that their solid shampoo bars seem to get used up a lot quicker than companies claim and the cost efficiency surrounding this.

To make a true comparison on cost....you should look at the quality of the two shampoos as well....in the US...you can purchase a bottle of shampoo for as little as $1.50...the bottled shampoo I used to use was a salon quality shampoo and cost me $25.00. At that price, and with as many washes as I get from my shampoo bar....it is much less expensive to purchase the shampoo bar...the quality matters....you really can't compare apples with oranges.
I think the main point is to stop using palm oil... and that is a bar that can be dried as son as you finished using it.
Im still amazed to see that there’s still people that think that the length of your hair has something to do with the amount of product you use. You only just need a little bit of product because you’re supposed to wash only your scalp and the hair surrounding it, the rest of your hair will wash “on its own” when your start rinsing the shampoo. Not only this will save you money but it will also help your hair health -as the ends won’t be as dry- Now with the conditioner you can use the amount you feel fits your length hair and/or type, but you’re supposed to use it only on the ends of your hair.
Rebeca Prieto well you do need a little more for longer hair as you have to get it up in there rather than just scrub it all over your head, but the difference should be pretty small

this is insane, i don't think i've ever in my life seen a shampoo bottle come and go in just 2 weeks, and that's including when i shared the shower with my two siblings and my father sometimes. I think you have a shampoo goblin using your shampoo when you're not looking!!!
She uses like twice as much shampoo as i do

You can’t leave it in the shower as the water melts loads of the soap. 😊
You can leave it in the shower just make sure it's not in the way of the water so it won't melt away.
I put mine behind the shower curtain on a soap saver. It has lasted months
I do leave it in the shower. Just place it on the wire rack/suction rack etc. Away from water. Mine lasts a long time. I will never go back to buying shampoo in a plastic. No way.
You did something wrong, I wash my long hair everyday and my solid shampoo can last even a year and I’m using solid shampoos for about 6 years now. You have to keep it dry, if you don’t keep it dry and clean it disolves “itself” maybe that’s what happened to your bar
How do you dry, clean, and store the bar after every shower? Wipe it down with a towel?
@@happybear4ever I personally just take it out of the shower, put it on the sink shelf to dry while I put my creams on and afterwards I put it in its box or original packaging (metal lush container/cardboard box/dry soap dish).
Wiping it down will also take some of the product away and make a cloth "dirty", so I never do that.
I don't even wash my hair everyday.. I try to stretch it up to a week. I just bought my first shampoo bar from N.A.E. and I am happy to try it out.
I have very long hair and my shampoo bar has lasted me over four months (and still going strong!) I wash my hair twice a week. My hair doesn’t feel dirty or oily so that’s all it needs. I’m surprised yours only lasted 34 washes
4 months are about 18 weeks. 2 washes per week are in the sum 36 washes. Not suprisely much more.
Clearly if it's still nowhere near being done, it's much more than 36 washes ("still going strong")
Yeah. Im not even half way through mine and i've had it atleast 2 months and my hair is medium-long length. At that rate I should get 45-50 washes. My bar looked a lot smaller than hers aswell
You shouldn't wash your ends, only the scalp, that's why you go through it so quickly...

@@republican4u2nv78 while your rinsing out the shampoo, the shampoo travels from scalp to the ends and that is enough for washing the ends. Unless you play in mud or smth, then you don't need extra wash for your ends... That way you also don't dry out your hair. And those shampoos that have sulfates in them, like those here, these are the harshest chemicals and dry your hair out, so only wash your scalp, not the ends.
Same goes for conditioner, because it probably has silicones in it, then don't put it on your scalp, only mids- ends (I put a bit higher, but only so it doesn't touch my scalp). Because new growth doesn't need conditioner, but your ends have been on your head for several years (depending on the length) and hair cuticle is probably more opened, so they do. Hope that clears up, sorry if some parts don't make sense, because English is not my first language, but I'm trying 😁
@@republican4u2nv78 also I just bought the honey I washed my hair, and oh boy, you only need so little, rub it back and forth twice on your hand, then put the bar down and rub your wet hands together, it lathers up like crazy. Because people are use to this regular shampoo on the bottle, then they take way too much, they just don't know how much is enough. But I was experimenting, because everyone is saying they get only 35-45 washes out of one bar, so I want to know where Lush got the 80-100 😂
@@maarjai.7751 Huh... Very interesting and it makes sense! I know what you mean about using too much shampoo out of the bottle, I am 100% guilty of that haha! I just bought my first shampoo bar- received it in the mail yesterday from royalty soaps and cannot wait to try it out in the morning! I will have to give your theory a try!

I use less nowardays, just what I was taught when younger, but now I see all these comments, it made me experiment with less and it does me fine too.

You could also see if there's a zero waste shop near you so you could use a refillable bottle :)
If you are doing it the right way you also need to compare the ingredients that are in the shampoo bar and shampoo . From what i know is that for the shampoo bar there are way less ingredients used to make it . also the bar is not tested on animals which makes it a vegan friendly product . Most who make the bars place them in a bio degradable package and they use natural ingredients . I would say the Shampoo bar is good anyways . yes it cost a bit more but at least you do not put chemicals on your head .
I put my liquid shampoo in a hand soap pump bottle and I use 2 pumps every day and my shampoo lasts 4 months. I think this works since I am using the same amount every time and not just squirting it out of the bottle that has a large hole. (Even shampoo that comes with a pump tends to have a larger hole, hand soap bottles have a smaller hole, this is something that you don't really notice unless you look and it makes a difference in the amount of product you are using) I buy Head and Shoulders Clinical Defense 2 in 1 shampoo on sale for $8... when I can't find it on sale it is $10...The bottle is 13.5 oz. so that is like spending no more than $2.50 a month on shampoo. I also only wash my scalp. I find it easier to wash my hair in the sink instead of the shower. If you buy regular shampoo in a larger bottle then it would probably last longer and be a couple dollars cheaper. In the end I only have to buy 3 bottles of shampoo a year so that is less plastic (I know still not the same as no plastic)
Are you keeping the bar dry/storing it where the water on it can drain away? If not it will 'dissolve' the bar as others have said. I've just worked out how long mine should last and its about 45-55 washes. And my bar is a lot smaller than yours but my hair is about the same length. So not really sure what's happened to yours...hope things get easier for you soon!
Keep in mind two people were using it, so it would probably be more like 70 washes if just one person was using hers.
I don't understand your workings out on the shampoo bottle. You say you were washing one day & then putting it up in a bun the next day so that means in 14 days you washed 7 times. Your partner washed every day which added to yours is 21 washes. Based off that you used 24ml of shampoo per wash which is nearly 5 teaspoons per wash! I don't even think you'd be able to fit that much in the palm of your hand.
I don't think you've given a fair comparison here as you've bought the most expensive shampoo bar & yet the least expensive shampoo bottle. You can get 2 in 1 shampoo & conditioner bars with 97% plant based ingredients for 99p as thats what i'm using now. I wash my hair twice per week which is recommended for a healthy scalp & these bars last me 4 months/17 weeks or 34 washes which is less than 3p per wash.
Try to lather the bar up only in your hands and put the foam directly on your scalp. You could try out regular soap bars instead of shampoo.

GRÜM has amazing shampoo bars and are more affordable than lush plus I doesn't go bad like some lush stuff are
You'll be even more surprised if you look at the formula ingredient of the LUSH shampoo bar, they use AES or SLS as the main surfactant, which is extremely cheap and widely used in all kinds of detergent and hand wash. Yes, it's a scam.

Omg my husband does the same thing over uses the shampoo theres no way your hair needs that much liquid shampoo. I've had hair down to my butt and thick and never used that much
willow batten usually when the shampoo is shite quality you need a lot more.. honestly some people are better off with a basic bar soap than buying good quality shampoo if they want that squeaky clean feeling
I use the L’Oréal anti hairfall treatment shampoo and I have hair shorter than hers but still need twice the amount because it doesn’t seem to clean my head all that well. Is that because of cheap shampoo or is it in my imagination?
I wash my hair about every 2-3 days. My shampoo bars last me at least 6 months usually. (I have thick, long hair if that matters )

hi, great experiment congrats, really informative, I was thinking about dissolve shampoo bars in a jar so is easy to apply, if you want to save some money consider adding water to you normal shampoo and washing less, I did with mine and I noticed that the uban legend saying if you stop using shampoo your hair self regulates is true for me at least, even with a heavy gym and bike routine and a lot of sweat on my scalp, I didn't stop, but I reduce to 1 day per week, and my hair is healthier than ever, also I added water to the standard bottle, now a bottle last for up to 3-4 months and my hair is better and more healthy I hope this info helps someone.
I buy a 1ltr bottle of shampoo and conditioner and it lasts almost a year and I double shampoo. My partner uses a shampoo bar and has been using it for a year and has used maybe a quarter.
I buy a high-quality shampoo and conditioner, I have just ordered my second shampoo bar as the first one did not work for me.
You say that you are on a budget ? Why do you not buy them by using Aliexpress ? I ordered mine there and i am using it atm . I used it now for 2 times and i most say that i love the shampoo bar , normally my hair would be greasy after 2-3 days and since i use the shampoo bar my hair keeps clean and doesn't lose the volume . I bought the lavender bar to relax while taking a shower . I orderd more some weeks ago and they can arive any moment . I orderd different bars and from different companies to compare them . I will also make my own bars next month .

The difference is the quality if the products hun. The cheap shampoo is full of artificial stuff such as dyes, fragrance, sls, solvents, alcohol....the shampoo bar was natural with losts of butters, oils and natural fragrance and paraban, plastic, sls, dye, artificial colour, alcohol free🍸
Most of the millenials preffer the liquid shampoo or soaps that the traditional soap bar or shampoo. I preffer liquid over traditional Bar. Thank you for your comments and video

I wash my hair once maybe twice a week and my shampoo lasts a month so I suppose a bar would be best. I like to budget but I prefer to buy something that is healthier for hair planet than a crappie bottled shampoo

A half litre bottle of liquid shampoo? Wow, that's huge. Normaly pepole buy only half of that, around 250ml. And for me this is enough. About 30 washes of a bottle and almost the same with 100g of hair soap (I don't use shampoo bars)
Just checked my Pantene bottle and it is 595 ml. Where are you getting these "normally people buy only half that" stats from so I can see the details? Also, she stated the bottle was for 2 people so technically that fits into your "half that amount" per person.

@@republican4u2nv78 I can't speak for other countries, but here in Sweden the most common size of shampoo and conditioner bottles is 250-300 ml. You really need to search several stores if you want to buy a specific brand in a larger size, and then it's only been recently that I've started seeing bigger bottles.
@@matildas3177 When I toured Europe, I also must have had a hard time finding my regular "larger" sized bottles of Pantene. I noticed all my bottles I kept from different countries are the smaller bottles (or probably what would be a "standard" size.) Most stores around here typically have 4 sizes available (I'm specifically referring to Pantene since that is what I purchase and pay attention to haha) trial size, standard, family, and the big bottle with the pump. My local stores mostly carry the 595ml bottles so for my area that must be their biggest sellers.
