In Greek mythology, nymphs were young and beautiful women residing in nature. Actually, Greeks considered them as inferior female divinities connected with pristine nature, trees, mountains, rivers and sea. Most importantly, nymphs connected with amazingly beautiful locations in the outdoors. A hidden gem of such amazing beauty is Nympheon, meaning the place where Nymphs live. A tranquil mountainous village at the Northern most region of Greece with long lasting history and tradition. With rock built houses and rock paved narrow streets is a true masterpiece of traditional Macedonian architecture.
This traditional, well-preserved rock built settlement attracts visitors all year round. At the outskirts of the village lies the international environmental center of Arkturos, a non-profit NGO dedicated to protect wildlife fauna and natural habitat. We may visit its premises, see the bears from close and get to know more about wolves, bears and Greek shepherd dogs.
