“It’s a UK cover.. but it’s Solaris so the spine works” 😂 so true, here in Australia we also use UK paperbacks and the smaller size ones have atrocious stiff spines 😭
Yeah no matter how much I like a UK cover I won’t ever get them because they’re so stiff and a pain to read
Yay for vacation book shopping, always fun until you have to figure out how to get all the new treasures home lmao
Yess! I love Bakka Phoenix! I want to go back to that store so badly. The last few times I was in Toronto I spent a ridiculous amount of money at a variety of bookstores. Sadly I don’t think I’ll have time to shop next time I’m there this summer 😢
And yes, Indigo is our big chain bookstore company here. I feel like most locations don’t have a great SFF section any more so I’m glad you found some good stuff at Eaton centre
Bakka-Phoenix is spectacular! I was in Toronto in April and had a hard time not bringing a ridiculous amount of books from there! Manage to come out with only two, but still hauled 7 books total from my 2 days in Toronto. The city has some great bookshops. I think you showed better restraint than me since the books I bought were all from new to me authors 😅
Ooo, the Bujold books ARE gorgeous 😍 and I support the purchase of a second copy in the correct size! Good call 🤪
I love Penric and Desdemona, and I’m so glad you got the collections! Definitely start with Penric’s Progress. Happy reading!
Once work dies down, I am planning a road trip to go up the US side to Niagara Falls and down the Canadian side and visit Toronto. So I am saving this video for a rewatch to drag my friend along with me for some bookshop hopping.
And yay! Penric!
Duly noted! The next time I am in Toronto, I am headed to Bakka Phoenix and Riko Bokito!
Omg I love the local restaurant shout out. I'll definitely check it out when we're back in July
Wooo glad you had a lovely holiday ! I love the cover of The Emperor and The Other Palace, and that synopsis sounds stunning ! Just picked up a copy of The Vanishing Birds so very excited to get to it
So fun sharing in your high haul energy! 🎉❤
I read Seventh Bride a couple of months ago and loved it! I never hear people talk about it though.
I also read a bunch of Bujold's fantasy in the last 6 months (Curse of Chalion, Paladin of Souls, Hallowed Hunt) and the Penric novellas are up next. Glad you could get some of the bindups.
Well now i need matching Bujold hardcovers of all her books, those are beautiful.
I'm currently reading Carpenteria by Alexis Wright. Litfic about indigenous Australians clashing with an mining company. It's written in a mythic style though. It's feeling like 100 Years of Solitude in a way.
I felt the same about Seasonal Fears! Hope the new one is good, just got it from my library
😮 I didn't know there was gonna be another Semiosis book! I'm gonna need to find a summary of Interference, cause I read that (omg) 4 years ago, and I remember nothing. 😅 Have you seen that the new Jenn Lyons standalone is out?
Also, I absolutely understand the joy that matching books give (and the need for them to match). 😊
Yay Bakka Phoenix! Their staff recommendation cards always get me.
I read Oathbringer so fast n it burnt me out so bad 😂 I’m now rereading the series and I’m on the 1st book n loving it again. ❤ Rhythm of War was my least favorite but we will see if that changes this time around. Lovvvved Swordheart!
Great haul! I also loved Taqtumi. That’s a great reminder I’d like to reread my copy this winter.
Yay for visiting bookstores in new cities. ❤ Banana beignets sound incredible!
Taaqtumi and New Suns both look pretty good, got me curious. I don't usually read anthologies, so your recommendations are always useful. Will add some Simon Jimenez on my list, too, if I haven't already.
I still haven't read shit this week. I mean, I started chapter 3 of Stonewielder, and I plan on *actually reading* now, but we'll see
Glad to hear you had such an amazing trip to Toronto!! And yay for the little splurge on those books, hope they bring you tons of joy 🤩
somehow I thought Bakka Phoenix was a manga store? im going tomorrow now tyty
I'm going to Toronto next weekend and I always look forward to going to all of the bookstores. Little Big Ben is so accurate 😂
We had a view of it and the Toronto sign from our hotel window and my brain IMMEDIATELY went there lol it also chimes, and yes I sometimes heard it at 3 am 🤣
I agree with the choice about New Suns! So many cool books. Immunity Index wasn't for me, but I'll be curious to hear what you think of it.
Oh! Did you stop by Phoenix Bakka? 😮 love this store for fantasy and sci fi!
I did!!!
I will be happy if Tidal Creatures falls between Middlegame and Seasonal Fears. Seasonal Fears was so disappointing.
I really enjoyed The Seventh Bride. Granted, I am a fairytale fan, so, YMMV. It has many Kingfisher hallmarks and the feel that is perfect comfort to me! So that was great. Curious to hear your thoughts. Also, those Bujold books are beautiful!!
Sounds like it will probably be a hit for me as well!
📚✨
LOL i thought you decided not to get new suns! 😂
also Solaris is the newer UK version of spear cuts through water I think, but it's not the version I have!
I will buy a book you like don't you worry 😂
Rhyan thought this too, but I couldn't pass it up lol
♥️♥️♥️
📚💖📚
heading out on a city book hunt. Visited The Strand yesterday, got The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and music book 'Piano Sonatas' by Antonio Soler (late baroque). not fearing the heat!😉
You are a brave person. I am trying not to fear the heat as I prepare for a baseball game tonight lol
@@LiteratureScienceAlliance Enjoy the game!!!⚾⚾🍺
Don't worry about Terra Ignota. If it has such a thing as a natural break, it's between book 2 and 3. Enjoy!
Mostly just want my brain to be more awake again so I can see what happens next!
