Can someone in Canada call the US Congress and tell them about this. The US only gives lip service to family values. This would help families so much and reduce the stress of transitions to parenthood. I would move to Canada but it's too cold. 🎉🎉🎉🎉😂
As someone from the UK, I'm pretty interested in how Canadian systems work. I'd love to see more of these kinds of videos, they're very insightful and you make it concise
Definitely continue to provide this kind of content. It's invaluable
This is the best video I have seen on this subject. Kudos to you.
Omg thank you for making such a comprehensive video!
That is so neat they would never do that in the US
We get 50 weeks paid here at FedEx
In the USA we can get FMLE paid.
@@gryffynda1FMLA is not paid for. Nobody is obligated to pay you for FMLA. It only keeps your job safe.
I should say, PFML with FMLA.
You only get 55 percent of your wage and to a maximum of 650 I believe. It takes forever to get paid too sometimes up to a month and you have no choice but to pay into it every pay cheque it’s not that great
I just became a PR! I would absolutely LOVE more videos like this. I liked your layout. Thank you
This was so helpful, you made it so easy to understand and answered all the questions I had!
Very well laid out and explained. My wife is due in a few months, so I will definitely be watching this again multiple times. Thank you for your help!
That was so informative thank you Justin.👍
Incredibly helpful video. Thank you for this!
Thank you for this Video! Very Informative specially for the ones planning to migrate and such.
Great video. Would definitely be interested in watching other videos related to the topics you mentioned.
Impressive..
Thanks for explaining those benefits.
This was so helpful !!!! Thank you ❤
Super informative. More of these videos pls.
Thank you and very informative.
Very informative thanks!
I wish US would do this. Thank you for sharing. God bless your channel.
In the US(WA state) we have family paid leave that both employees and employers pay in for up to 12 weeks of leave.and if you combine that with your medical leave you could get up to 18 weeks. That is max of 1400/week if you are a high earner.
My daughter had 5 weeks maternity leave and so I had to take care of my granddaughter from that age on up. My daughter worked five minutes away but she was often driving her clients in other cities and in a different state but whenever she could, she would stop in to hold and feed her daughter. But as time went on, her clients (she's a Social Worker) and job required more responsibilities so she would drop her off and pick her up sometimes late in the evening if her ex husband wasn't picking her up. At 2, they put her in an private Two Year old preschool. I watched her on weekends, holidays and the summer. At 3, she was put in a different private Three Year old preschool. And the same, I watch her weekends, holidays and the summer. Now at 4, it's summer so I watch her during the week and some weekends but my daughter drops her off at 3:30 am and she's with me until around 6 pm. I don't watch her every day during the week or weekends but that will change in the fall when she goes back to her private school for Four Year olds preschool. My daughter is now a licensed Substance Abuse Counselor and still works at the other job as a Social Worker. So I'm the support for both parents to be able to work at their jobs. It'll be like that for many years to come.
Thank you!
Thanks for crystal clear explanation
They should have this in America

I love Canada!!
Very interesting.
very informative.....thanks a lot :)
You are so lucky to have these benefits. The US does not pay us for anything. We have to use sick leave for 6 weeks after that they want you back at work.
Canada's provincial taxes are almost double what most state taxes are. Also, their federal Canadian tax is VERY high. We could have this in the US, but you would be paying for it in taxes.
Good! Most of us don't want all of our money going to military equipment but here we are! The data is out there that we get taxed just as much as other places but get zero benefits from it.
This is awesome, thank you so much! I've watched so many videos and still didn't understand all of the elements, until I watched yours. This was very helpful. One thing I wasn't clear on though, was if a father and mother can take leave on the same dates. Like say, if we took short parental leave, and I (the father) took my leave from July 1st to July 31st. Is my partner allowed to be on leave at the same time, and we both collect benefits from July 1st to July 31st?
I hope you, your beautiful wife and your children are all doing well!
Wow we get 3 months here in PA
30 yrs ago my job laughed at me we I asked for maternity leave. Yep, US of great A
And this makes USA a huge JOKE! The slight mention of more leave for parents, is a resounding laughter. 6-8 weeks depending on what type of birth. Shall I say I’m super happy that y’all can enjoy and be with your children as you should.❤ Great job Justin 👍🏽👍🏽
This is awesome, but I wonder how this affects businesses when they lose an employee for over a year? I'm in the US and my oldest was born 40 years ago. My employer provided 6 weeks of paid leave. I took an additional 6 weeks without pay. Returning back to work was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
Most industry will hire someone to cover the position. Most of the time they hire someone entering the field which helps them build their resume and give this new employee experience for their future. Of course it will be a one year contract
@@theselfishcolumn1249 thanks for the explanation.
👍🏾
Hi im planning to take parental leave 3 months after my wife gave birth, and my bi-weekly is atleast 1,300 (net income atleast 1k minus the tax “give or take”) our family annual is under 50k and i have more than 600hrs on my EI how much do you think my parental leave? Is it weekly or bi-weekly? Thanks
Hi! New subscriber here! Hopefully you can help with this question :) I was born and raised in Canada, moved to Mexico as a child and am now planning to move back. As a single mom, is my daughter born out of the county entitled to a citizenship? And am I entitled to any child care benefits? Thank you for this video, it's really helped me!
This was very interesting. Curious, do marital status come into play in regards to if the father can receive paternity leave benefits?
Doubt it,pretty sure if that baby is yours you get the time.
No marital status doesn’t matter. I’ve even heard of single mothers who were able to split their leave with a friend. Who and how it gets split is up to the parent/guardian. In BC you can have up to 4 ppl on a birth certificate but it’s not a requirement that you be on the birth certificate. Ie. Grandparents could take some of that leave if that’s what the family decides. Non-parental figures having some of that leave is more complicated but I can think of a couple of examples where this has happened.
Would you happen to know what Supporting Documents are required to prove the child's birth? Does Service Canada require you to submit a birth certificate? Or a passport? OR both? If my husband was on parental leave and we chose to birth in another country, would Service Canada accept a Mexican birth certificate and the new Baby's Canadian Passport? Or do you have to give birth in Canada in order to collect your parental Leave/EI benefits? Thanks so much if you happen to know the answer!
Are seak leaves weeks count ase maternity leave week?
Hi does it matter if the child is born outside of Canada? I couldn’t find any info related to this aspect. Thanks
Does it work the same in Quebec?
Hi Justin, can you please give me a gov link that says the dad can take 5 weeks paternity leave. My husband's work place is not honoring his request for 5 weeks of paternity leave.
👍
Are you entitled to salary raises while on parental leave?
My company gives a raise across the board every year, but after 24 month I came back from parental leave and my salary is the same as when I left 14 month ago.
At what time I can take my paternity leave? I'm working for 2 years in Canada. My wife does not.
Am I still viable for parental leave EI if my child is overseas??
Wow you can’t get childcare for babies under 12 months?? That’s so strange, in Australia babies over 6 weeks can go to daycare
This depends on which Canadian province you live in. In Quebec you can send your baby to a licenced daycare from 3 months old. These daycares are called pouponneries or pouponnières. Most daycares accept babies from 18 months old but there are also some that accept babies from 6 months or 12 months old. It's just that there is high demand so you have to apply for a spot when you're still pregnant or after you've been approved to adopt a specific child but before the child is legally placed in your care. A lot of families also decide to hire a "mother's helper" or ask family members or close friends for childcare help. Some mother's also start their own home daycare so that they can be home with their babies but also look after I think up to 6 other kids who are older. I don't know about other provinces though.
Correction: in Canada paternal leave is not only for fathers , but for other parents too that can be mothers too(in case of 2 mothers family). So it’s better to say “other not birthing parent” considering you in Canada
Yes please Justin. I need help to make the most of the money I earn.
In Ontario.ca it says 17 weeks for pregnancy leave, I am so confused.
Yeah me too. I'm so confused because I can't find it on government website.
But how does all that get paid for?
Taxes☺It's part of the social welfare system and included in your social insurance.
Government I guess
"that all get paid for" from the national wealth of course!
Some countries are wise enough to direct part of their wealth to ensuring that their new members start out quite healthy in life.
In this way, the new members can 'contribute back' to their society's wealth when they become adults.
High taxes
@@ossier2796
"higher taxes"?
Do you not know of the MASSIVE amounts of Natural Resources Canada produces?
Who should enjoy the benefits of Canada's natural resources if not the citizens, and the new citizens that are necessary to continue the Canadian population?
Some countries are paying their citizens to reproduce.
So it is pay now or pay later, if the nation begins to lose population.
Keep it up!! No need to tell negative stories about your parents and sister just to make money.. Stay away from them by moving to another far far place.. Just live
life forward.
Thanks about the tip if we “report” income to the government we need to offset the parental benefits …😂
What about women who don’t work and have children? How does that work?
they aren't losing out
What about them?
why would they need maternity leave then? it is a leave of absence from a job due to having a baby. if you have no job, you don't need a leave of absence....the government has different tax breaks for all parents regardless of job status, just not maternity leave
Unfortunately, America is too greedy to do something like this.
Insanely jealous
Who supports the homeless or illegal immigrants?
As I'm sure you already know, the causes of chronic homelessness are more complex and not always easily solved. Canada is not a perfect country by any means, but there are some laws and structures in place to try to help people find a way to pick themselves up off the ground. And I'm sure this exists in many other countries too.
Any extra resources is always useful 🥹🥹
