  • The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C400 takes the C-class to a new level. This new version features an interior inspired by the S-Class, while under the hood beats a 3.0-liter V6 Biturbo Engine with Direct Injection putting out 329hp and 354 lbs-ft of torque. On this episode of the AutoNation Test Drive we take a close look at a fully-loaded C400 with 4Matic All-Wheel-Drive on a typically wet Northwest afternoon. The new C400 starts at $48,590, the model we’re testing is loaded fir $63,705 (inc. destination.)

    A couple of points on the "Distronic" (adaptive cruise control). The sensors for this aren't in the over mirror camera cluster. Rather that cluster locates your lane lines for steering correction and has a sensor reading the road surface for suspension loading. The Distronic is dependant on a radar gun located behind the Mercedes Benz Star in the middle of the grill. It's wonderful for driving in the fog, as it detects vehicles up to 150 yards away and will automatically apply the brakes when closing in on an object, coming to a complete stop if required to avoid an impact. Really takes the strain out of fog driving.

    Nice review. I'm a big fan of the car, but a year in, my C400 has been to the shop for rattles no less than 3 times, and is getting ready to go back for the powersteering recall. Hopefully they fix that with the recall, fix everyone's rattles, and finally figure out what's going on with the unbearable wind noise above 60mph

      +pabelox Agreed i have the 2012 C-class and it's very annoying i don't know how to turn it off permanently..and in the summer time when the engine shuts down the aircon shuts down as well.. i dislike that also .

    • @beninua
      @beninua Před 8 lety

      +Christian C That I don't understand. I have the 2013 C-class (C 250 Automatic Avantgarde) and I believe that should be the same model as the 2012 and my Economy mode also stops the engine at every stop, but my A/C doesn't shut down with it. Do you think there are some subtle differences between the 2012 and 2013 models? I know they upgraded the OS in the Command system and the CPU to a faster model between 2012 and 2013, but I wasn't aware the Start/Stop automatic should be any different in the 2013 model.
      But I totally agree with you, I don't like the shutting down of the engine at every stop, and I also find it a bit annoying that it resets at every new start of the car. After having had the car for a while now I have made it a habit to push the Economy button once to turn off the Start/Stop functionality immediately even before turning the key the last notch to turn on the engine. It is particularly annoying in dense traffic. But otherwise I find it's a nice car. I don't like the models with the fake leather that's used in the standard seats with "leather" on the side and fabric in the middle as that is faux leather (fake), but I have the full light gray thick ox leather cabin all over and that's very nicely done with the leather made to also cover the inside of the doors and the center arm rests and some of the panels both in front ant back. Mercedes do a very nice job at that.
      I also like the ambient light in the cabin under door handles and around the edges and coming out from under the seats giving a really cozy yet elegant atmosphere in the cabin. I also find the fridge in the glove compartment beneficial in the summer when I drive around with a few cold coke in the cooled part of the glove compartment. I actually tried the new 2015 model and I don't like the new display for the command system. I think it looks like something that's not made for the car and mounted by some 3rd part provider. I much prefer the 2013 models built in monitor for navigation and all the other functions.
      Another really neat feature on the 2013 are the motorized rear door to the trunk, as well as the automatic folding mirrors when parking in tight spaces. The gradual parkingsensors in both front and in the roof in the back of the car are very useful as they gradually show how you get closer, which is also much better than my previous car (An Audi A5 2.0TFSi 2011). Everything is better on Mercedes these days. I didn't always think so, but lately I think they have improved on all sorts of areas and they've gotten better than Audi on almost any part of the car.

    • @beninua
      @beninua Před 8 lety

      +MUH FACKS I have a mere 2013 C250 Automatic but before I had the Audi A5 2.0 TFSi which was a nice car, but I must admit that Mercedes just does everything a little better in (almost) all parts of the car. The quality just seems a bit higher except for one single thing and that is the buttons on the radio/cd center console where you have the shortcuts for Navi, Tele, Disc, Radio, System. They have a very thin coating and the coating have a tendency to crack and peel off, which is not very nice to look at. But everything else is better than my Audi was. Don't get me wrong, Audi is a nice car, but I think the Leather cabin in the mercedes is of a thicker and better quality than the Audi was. (Not the faux (fake) leather that's used on the standard seats in the mercedes where it's partial "leather" and fabric in the middle, they are awful and cheap to look at, but the full leather cabin where the leather is used all the way around even on the inside of the doors and on the armrest in the middle and on some of the panels.) It is SO thick and soft and nice to touch with such a smooth surface. (I have the light gray leather in mine, which is beautiful. The only thing I don't understand is why they still use black leather on the steering wheel and the stick for the automatic transmission shifter I think it would have been nice to have those in the same colour as the rest of the light gray leather in the cabin).
      I do agree with you on the navi screen in the 2015 model. I don't like it eather. It looks like something made by a 3rd party store selling unoriginal standard parts that you can mount in all cars. The first time I saw it in a 2015 model I thought it was some retrofitted mount for an iPad Mini that was mounted above the radio until I realized it was actually the original navi/command screen. I think that's a mistake. But I'd buy the car anyway as I believe it's a nice car. I'll wait 2 years though till I can get a 1½-2 yrs old at a much reduced rate as here in Denmark cars cost almost 3 times their real price as we pay a tax of 180% on top of the cars price so a Merc at $60.000 will cost $170.000 in Denmark - which of course is ridiculous and outrageous.
