However, of the three movies, The Matrix was clearly the most popular one, and defitneyl hit it big time against tough competitors during its release. The first Matrix movie was released the same year Toy Story 2, The Mummy, Star Wars: Phantom Menace were also released. Bullet time isn’t necessarily bullets traveling slowly. It’s an effect created by compiling the data from multiple cameras around what you’re filming, and does not have to involve bullets or guns.

I was thinking that "Dark City" is coneccted with Michael Ende's book "Momo".

The connection seems too strong to be a coincidence. People rarely come up with truly original stuff. Almost everything is inspired by something else. Thanks for pointing out this connection.

I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but long after I watched "Dark City" (I have the first-edition DVD), I started to notice the strange similarities it had with "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", starting with Doom's choice of wardrobe and his dark presence looking much like the "strangers" in the movie, the (SPOILER ALERT) city-within-an-enclosed-cubicle-floating-in-space looking like something out of the 1940's, not to mention the "tune/toon" double-entendre, among other details. I expect that sometime soon I will stumble upon someone somewhere in CZcams-opia who has actually done a movie mashup with these two films. (Just you wait! If I ever find one, I'll come back here to link!)

I like how this video mentions other movies at the time….except for Toy Story 2. None of those movies did I find entertaining. The Mummy was ok, but it reminded me of Indiana Jones. And I didn’t get into Austin Powers until part 2…lol.
So when the Matrix came out, I was all for it. That being said, I tried watching Dark City and ExistenZe at the time. But I guess they’re weren’t box office hits. So they got pulled from theatres. I always felt like for film fans trying to see certain movies. Due to budget constraints etc. They don’t reach their intended audience.
That being said my friend wrote Slotherhouse. A horror comedy movie about a man killing Sloth. He didn’t make any money bc it was only in theaters for 3 days. Not it’s on Hulu.
