This is such a great line. I think it's one of the many reasons this book should be taught in middle school English classes. Kids/teens/adults/ everyone needs to hear that line and remember it when times are hard.

Explain the following statement: “The only thing that keeps Darry from bein’ a Soc is us.” When Two-Bit Mathews tells Ponyboy, "You know, the only thing that keeps Darry from bein' a Soc is us," he’s referring to Darryl being more mature, disciplined, and responsible than the rest of the Greasers.
