I like Rustic Jungle personally. But it feels more like a 6.2-6.3 if that first truss jump was nerfed.

  • @exotictheonly
    @exotictheonly Před 5 měsíci +13

personally, i think making the first crazy+ be the exact middle of the difficulty (6.5) was a great call, because it helps determine the difficulty of other crazy+ maps. it's kind of like the first building-block being put into place for the future of the difficulty.

i think its very overrated because maps like Desert Ruins and Abandoned Junkyard now look " *slightly* " harder than Rustic Jungle which is not the case at all unless you now rank both of them 6.9 or something

I really like these survey-based breakdown videos, it definitely feels like the most complete way to review a map and include a big part of the playerbase as a core part of it. Really felt like a journey from start to finish and seeing people slightly change their perceptions of the map after watching all of the points in the video proves that. Flood escape is in a bit of a troubled state at the moment, but this side of the community is absolutely my favorite part of the game. (excluding Steampunk Clockworks and Runic Maze, of course)
Here was my moderately rushed response (didn't get included because it was too short)
Rustic Jungle genuinely has a very well-thought out layout and platforming design - the progression and structuring are unique for such a high-difficulty map, alas it still strikes as ambitious and perplexing, which is very pleasant to see. The gameplay, while still going for a simple main movement path, manages to be mechanically complex, and between the variety of different sections and skillset challenges, it IN THEORY should work very well. HOWEVER, as much as it hurts to say, there's a striking amount of unavoidable flaws, which greatly affect the gameplay. Rustic Jungle is one of the most satisfying maps to play on, provided none of the awkward and borderline RNG nonsense doesn't show up. This map HEAVILY relies on long jumps to skewer its difficulty rating, which makes the entire map feel excessively unbalanced. The majority of the map feels like a cakewalk, with a couple of very specific jumps that feel almost impossible to master, due to the way main FE2's physics operate. This made the map an absolute painstaking chore to do, since most of the jumps require pure trial and error, until it becomes a breeze 95% of the time with the other 5% being a death that fully feels out of the player's control, resulting in pure frustration - with no real learning curve - mastering RJ made me feel like I could beat the entire map without trying, and at the same time immensely stressed since it felt like I could slip up at every fraction of the map, not to mention the few genuinely inconsistent jumps. Jumps like the wall jump to truss or sideways truss are SO cool in theory, but frustrating in execution - this isn't even the map's fault - the physics altering during the map's introduction to the game made these almost impossible to get 100% consistent on, which made the deaths here especially aggravating, since the already stressful rest of the map meets its peak here as these jumps feel fully random at times. But of course, we can't talk about the jump inconsistency without mentioning THE jump. The truss jump. I LOATHE this jump. By far the worst jump out of any highlight, or permanent map ever, and it's not even close. I cannot express how agonizing it is to die at the very start of a map that you've practiced and consistently reached the ending - and all due to something that felt unavoidable. The input required to make this jump is stupidly precise, and even if it's done right, the truss physics won't align with the player's hitbox, resulting in a death. As someone that played on a PC that's fighting for its life, the laggy graphics 1 granted me with about a 30% clear rate, while trying it out on a newer PC result in about a 75% clear rate, this jump is unreasonably punishing, combined with the first button that seems to punish the brave volunteers that went for it, since a late wall detachment is a guaranteed loss - the nature of the start of the map killing me 50% of the time made every RJ attempt really valuable, so I never decided to risk going for the first button, resulting in the button not being pressed at all - and even more failed attempts. I cannot put into words how demotivating it is to fail the truss jump, genuinely the worst feeling out of any scenario this game has to offer. It'd perplexing, since this map offers great satisfaction upon a decent progress attempt, and absolute agony during failed attempts. Even the tower section, despite the nice natural flow, made me more stressed than excited most of the time, and that BS pipe jump doesn't really help tone the stress down. This map has abysmal balancing, and I wouldn't say this for any other map, but I can't help but feel like this would be a much more fun experience if the long jumps were toned down and the map was easier - since the inventive layout could actually be really satisfying and adrenaline-inducing - suited for an easier map, or at least one balanced about equally throughout the whole thing. The pacing is also all over the place, with the flood only being the threat at the very beginning and very end. This map also displays a very distinct visual style, which I'm all here for - the use of rocky nature parts, faint industrial motives, slight hints of vegetation and painting the main path as a part of the whole aesthetic is a recipe for greatness. The problem? Rustic Jungle is a massive map. This may not be clear at first, but one look at this map's entire aerial view is enough. This map manages to convey the feel of being lost in an enormous jungle with a rotting industrial site in the heart of the jungle. The detail is spread equally throughout all of the parts, and the focus on parts that go unnoticed in rounds makes the main path, in my opinion, feel under-detailed. You could tell me that this is a map from 2020 and I could believe you (minus the ziplines and agility factors). i'm glad the part count was kept at a low number to keep the optimization high, but I can't help but feel like this map's staggering visual ideas could be brought to life with further detail work, making the visuals a mixed category. Luckily, the OST is something I can't criticize, as it's quite possibly my absolute favorite soundtrack out of any FE2 map, ever. I won't get into detail about why I'm stating this since this is already way too long, but I genuinely have no complaints - what a phenomenal music piece (and considering the fact that FE2 is filled to the brim with talented music composers, making this soundtrack even more impressive!). Overall, RJ is a map that I definitely have a strong love-hate relationship with. It's such a masterfully crafted map on papery but many setbacks strike, both gameplay-wise, and visually. Still, the potential that this map has, as well as the satisfaction of getting far, or even beating the map, and containing my favorite musical piece from FE2 all bump up the score to a decent positive value. A 7.0/10 imo, even though I definitely might call this map "garbage" in the heat of the moment in pro servers, due to those demotivating deaths lol. Final note, this was also a very odd choice for an introduction to Crazy+. I definitely stand by the fact that Crazy+ could have been implemented into the game in a much better way than it actually was, and Rustic Jungle not being the "welcome to Crazy+" low difficulty, or an epic grandiose gauntlet definitely contributed to the idea that the introduction of an entire new difficulty dipped into being more forgettable than it should have. this paragraph is kind of a mess lol TLDR; 7/10 i love and hate the map but awesome song and well crafted concept

    Ok here's what I think.
A lot of points on here did feel a little biased. Long jump spam really isn't "fun". You can make a really fun yet hard map without spamming long jumps everywhere(example: Jungle Inferno). Personally my idea is fun gameplay yet keep it hard not unfair.
The design doesn't really look that good either. Lots of bits are just squares shoved on the ground with no additional decoration to make it appeal more, overall the design is just very rushed.
The OST is very very good but I don't think it's the best OST in Fe2.
The pacing feels very odd but it's fine.
    Atmosphere is also fine.
I don't like this map at all because I never enjoy myself when I play it unlike other some crazy+ maps, and the deco also looks very rushed, it really just felt like they spent more time making the map big and hiding secrets than actually pouring their heart out onto the detail and gameplay. I suggest leaving the most negative reviews then work up to the most positive reviews to make everyone feel included as I submitted a form and wasn't included.

Been playing Rustic Jungle over 200 times trying to beat the map and I haven't beaten it YET but I did make it to the end of the map to the last jump but died for being late. Now I want give my ratings for it cause I am in love with it!
    Gameplay: 8/10
Mostly the beginning is stupidity painful to get past but I have my ways to get past them but that's why it mostly goes down to a 8 for me because the beginning is not fun at all. It's like a RNG chance you either fail a jump or you end up being late, but none of the jumps are RNG in the beginning it's just getting the right angles and timing to get the jumps right. Now after you get past the 2nd walljump in the map it surprisingly gets really fun because the jumps are more eaiser and understandable to process. Now the complaint I have for this map only is the zipline to the entrance of the building. jumping to the side after you get off the zipline blocks your view from a gate or wall or the ceiling, and it's annoying but muscle memory is important and it's pretty hard to jump to it but it's not a big deal. Anyways the area before the tower is alright just the weird slope to jump on the truss slows you down a lot but the super long jump after the truss can be annoying but it's easy to get past if you jump right on time. The slope though after getting past that long jump can also slow you down if you aren't quick enough to jump on time so you can jump side to side to the next truss that will lead around to the tower. Now the tower is probably my 2nd favorite area in the map because theres 3 floors to get past like it's a difficult chart obby. Floor 1 is pretty simple yknow the jumps arent too long just the thin jump to the truss can kill you easily, floor 2 is pretty medium just some long jumps and a walljump, and floor 3 is extremely hard since you have to do long jumps around and up to then a pipe jump wraparound and it's very hard to pull off but if you are lucky than make sure you jump pretty late to the hanging platform to getting through the wall. The semi outside are to get to the zipline is actually really easy to me cause it's just hitting the walljump in the middle and doing a bit of walljumps to the side and then the ziplines can easily trick you if you don't hold W because if you stop moving you can just fall and die. Now for the ending I love it with the thin jumps from the crane to get the last button but man it's hard when you are panicking to side jump to side jump and around to the exit and you just gotta be early enough to pass it. Anyways that's my opinion on the gameplay I just hate and love it at the same time.
    Deisgn: 9/10
Honestly one of my favorite designs for a map or game ever of the yellow and orange mix from the jungle to a rustic industrial building which is the point of the name. The problem is that you cant see any of it when playing the map :(
and personally by the screenshots of the entire jungle and the building and from the inside it's just amazing and I'm in awe from it. The huge crane looking over the jungle is probably my favorite part about this map since it's like looking over the nightmare you have faced, and now you are at the top beating that nightmare you faced. The flood being purple is weird fitting choice and I like how it mixes in with the yellow texture as well. The lore I'm guessing is that for how ever long this industry has been here rotting away being rusted from this chemical water that they were using, it broke loose while the place was being built which makes sense of the resuce worker. And baiscally us escaping it at the time of dawn is like the jungle has woken up and the building is waiting for your nightmares to face. Anyways thats all I have for this!
    Soundtrack: 100/10 (10/10)
I am in love love loveee with this soundtrack that I listen to it daily. It never really bothers me actually cause it never gets too old to me never how many times I've died. I love the drum beats and the flutes mixing in together making the feel of a Jungle mixed in with the industrial feel. The beginning part of the sound track is so calming to me but when that 2nd walljump you get past it gets a bit intense. Then music change into the building is so intense and the anxity is rising and I love the music change from it. NOW THE TOWER PART IS MAGNIFICENT! I fucking love the high intensity that you get with that feeling of you need to escape this building now. Now I don't hear this from many people but the choir in the part when we go through the wall to the zipline is so goddamn Angelic that it makes you feel like your acending into heaven and it puts a tear in my eye. Then the sudden switch at the ending makes it feel super intense and the anxity is high but it also feels calm like you made it!? And ofc at the end when we reach it is the most perfect ending of a soundtrack ever because of the feeling of victory. This ost is the best thing I've heard since AVM or Zembalinty or Decaying Silo. Peak OST ever!
    Pacing: 6 or 7/10
Mostly keeping this short the map just flows with the ost and it's slow but it's still up to your feet all the time to make sure you aren't lazy or fumbling. Overall can't really say anything but just the pacing is fine at least and it fits that 6.5 feeling.
    Atmosphere: 9/10
I'm in love with the skybox and the colors because it feels like a Jungle and even when your in the building the lighting kinda changes to be more darker but still bright enough to see in the building cause of the humid fog. Overall I think it's fantastic the way they put it all together and made it feel like a Rustic Jungle.
My honest opinion I think the 6.5 star raiting was a good idea for a first C+ map because it gives players that haven't played C+ the feeling of C+ maps aren't going to show forgiveness and I love that because I'm now way better at this game because of this map. It has taught me to be fast and have practiced long jumps. Anyways that's all I have to say, I'm surpised if you read all of this and thank you but have hopes for me that one day I'll beat this map! Thanks for reading my review.
    Score: 42/50.

the long jumps in this map really ain't that long TBH (and i generally don't like them, at least those of the 15 stud+ variety), as long as you can handle them the map flows really well... though i definitely can't say they're the most creative way of adding difficulty

this map gets unnecessary hate from people calling it "long jump spam" or rigged which is stupid considering its a hard map, ofc the gameplay will be hard, I personally find this map to be very enjoyable. The inconsistency in difficulty is definetly a problem tho. Only part i hate is the final button and final jump from dying to them too many times lol. I would rate this map gameplay a 8/10, detail 9/10 (i love this maps design its simple but amazing and so much detail that wasnt even needed that really just makes the map feel more like a place so good atmosphere there. People dont see the beauty and effort in this map to make it an actual world not just a set few platforms somewhere Atmosphere 10/10 Soundtrack 10/10 best song ever. The maps pacing is not that hard for a crazy+ and way to inconsistent 6/10

Until I can actually beat this map (thanks longjumps) I can’t give my proper opinion on this, but from what I’ve played so far, it’s just eh. I don’t particularly like the decoration, feels really bogged down, and the atmosphere is kind of all over the place ? But that’s most because my camera stares down while I play so I only focus on what’s beneath me not really above or around me.
I’ve already beaten SZS and AH but not this (I play much when abandoned junkyard was here)
Oh and the music is good, I prefer Abandoned Harbor’s OST though lol

Personally Rustic Jungle is kinda just eh. I feel like when you are trying to introduce a new difficulty, you must have the chance to go all in and to show brand new mechanics and concepts never used. Look at Blue Moon. It was introduced with concepts never seen before in a fe2 map and people were pleased to have it as a first Crazy. Now we have Rustic Jungle which yes did introduce new concepts but in reality was overshadowed but the absurd amount of longjumps in the map. I used to like this map, but now I think its quite mid mainly due to its outdated structuring choices and overall gameplay/design choices which sadly lacks to what a modern flood escape 2 map should be. Like Snowy Stronghold, I personally love its design a lot as it is breathtaking to see all the details, and the gameplay although not as perfect, is still quite enjoyable to play through once it gets voted, and even the mirror version of the map is still quite fun and great to sightread. Another Example is Sandswept Ruins as it shows how to put difficulty spikes in right places. It's design is also a chef's kiss, where pretty much its perfect all around. Now to tie it back how does this affect Rustic Jungle? It just wasn't the best way to introduce a new difficulty compare to that of Blue Moon.
But the ost, is a banger no need for a whole essay.
Either way excellent video Ev_n! Hope to see more content in the future!

Rustic Jungle is a really great map I enjoyed. The gameplay can be stressful, but once you get used to it (especially the two goofy long jumps), it can be fun, whether it be a bit or more. There’s a couple of good things about RJ. At first, RJ is sightreadable, where I could know where to go without being confused, which fits the difficulty pretty well. Second, each section provides unique variety of obstacles without the single same thing, preventing the map from becoming completely rigged like the unfortunate Crazy+ maps such as Abandoned Junkyard. Like, spamming long jumps is pretty weird and annoying at the same time.
Most of the RJ haters are due to their skill issues.
    I’m giving this map a 113/150, or 8.68/10.
    Gameplay: 8.4/10
    Design: 9.1/10
    OST: 10/10
Negative Points: -0.3 (Difficulty & Consistency Issues)
    Overall Scores: 27.2

ok i just wanna give my opinion on RJ bcuz why not
    Firstly, the gameplay.
ok no bias, but people usually say that the gameplay suck, and I also have to agree, but its a 6.5, what do you expect. Also, I know that people say that "no long jumps pls" and other stuff, like making the map hard without long jumps, but if you do that, itd just be a test of speed, and isnt there too many towers? The towers mostly make up for speed and RJ has one. Im not a huge fan of the long jumps but i do have to agree that it is a 6.5, so it SHOULD be hard, and uhh yea thats my opinion
gameplay score: 8/10 not the best nor the worst
    now, onto design.
ok now design, im just gonna give my thoughts and not rate it bcuz i dont even know how to build fe2 maps but one thing i will say tho is that the design is pretty damn cool ngl
you start on a jungle but then you venture into a facility some sorta thing, then bla bla bla and honestly, its pretty cool, the trees, the weird stone blocks, its pretty cool, but especially the last part.
    next is ost.
    its magnificent.
    ost: 10/10
and uh thats it. Overall a really good map but i wouldnt say that its perfect and deserves to be the 1st crazy map although its really good still.
    overall rating: 26/30

Thing I dislike is the amount of roadblocks there are at the start. Tbh, it would prob be better if they put some of those roadblocks at the end for a constant difficulty so there are no wide difficulty spikes and the map can have an exciting ending
