The song is dedicated to pastor Dr. Sandy F. Ray, who died in 1979.

I had a talk with God 2years ago when I was very ill with sepsis following a biopsy for prostate cancer I asked for his help, he answered me and thankfully I am still hear, and able to listen to the fantastic Stephanie Mills.

I am ... a Re - born again Christian ... I am not ... Doing wrong ... Anymore.

I also grew up with Dr.Ray as my pastor and I remember Her singing when she was a young girl in church. I remember her parents and I remember they were so proud of her and we all were so proud of her sucess. I remember my young son when we took him to see her in play the Wiz was so excited. Pastor was right she has a one of the greatest voices ever. It took me back this am . Thanks

I woke up in the middle of the night and this song came to me, I had to find it, heard it when I was young,, thanks for posting, there is so much going on, this song reminded me to talk to God and he will give you peace no matter what, he will make everything alright.

I love this song. Listening to this song helped me in 2016. It has been a long year for me already. My Aunt died this year and I was in a bad automobile accident two weeks after my Aunt died. God is with me and for everyone who believes in God.

When I first heard this song back in the day, I had to pull on the side of the road and I just completely broke down and cried my entire heart out. The conviction on this song is so heavy and even listening to it in 2021 at this present moment takes me right back to that road where I pulled over. I was going through so much, and I couldn't tell left from right, up from down, in from out, but God! I long for the days of this type of annointing. AT 4:24 get me every time when it hits her in the song. God used this vessel in these songs to heal!

It is indeed a blessing to receive I Had A Talk With GOD by Stephanie Mills, I lived in Brooklyn at 689 Greene Avenue, and was told by my neighbors that Stephanie Mills lived a few houses down and that she grew up there. You and she will be in my prayers. We must never forget our FATHER GOD, it is because of HIM that we are who we are and what we are. HE must always be first our lives.We must have a talk with HIM every night and day it is called "Prayer"

This is the secular version of Mitt Collier's I had A Talk With My Man Last Night. I think it was around 1964 that this song was released for the first time.. Gospel and R&B are just different sides of the same coin. You just change the lyrics.
Mrs. Collier did a version with the same title.
