  • The days get shorter, the shadows get longer, the wind blows stronger and the rain goes horizontal but the trains keep coming and what better way to end a video than with an immaculate steam engine. GWR 7029 Clun Castle is seen on the Tyseley Steam Trust BGL High Flyer, Peterborough-Lincoln-Peterborough special, captured in several places around Werrington on the outward and return journey.

    I'm always at work when the specials come through watching them from the office window so thank you for sharing them. 👍🏻

      As it was exceptionally windy perhaps you were in the best place. I was surprised that last clip came out as it was getting quite dark, the camera actually making it look more like daylight. Did you spot the deer crossing the Stamford Lines? at 26:47 Thank you as always Ben for watching.

    Hi Mick, thanks for the film. It looks like they have kept the machinery and lights alongside the ECML for more work on the old Werrington Junction.

      Thank you for watching. AFAIK there is more work being done the next two weekends.

    I saw the steam train going across the level crossing at Peakirk, wasn’t quick enough with my camera though! 😱

      Thank you for watching Abi. Annoying when something creeps up on you like that and you're unprepared. I often do videoing then find I have not pressed the record button so I know your frustration.

    @ 23:00 - that wasn't scheduled to go through the dive under! Great to see Clun Castle out in the area.

      No, Peterborough PSB using the dart board method for path selection again! Good to see you again Richard, thank you for watching and commenting.

      Easy Friday job😁 It sounded as though it had a few flats, hope you didn't get a headache from it by the time you got to Doncaster.

      @@werringtonjunction Small cavity on one of the wheels apparently, I couldn’t hear anything from where I was, other than engine sounds.

    Thanks - a good variety. One question - on Sunday, was there more track work further North 'forcing' LNER etc to go via Spalding (good to see them using the dive-under) when one option could have been to use the Stamford lines to/from Helpston/Tallington and link up with the ECML there.

      Thank you for watching RWM. I am not sure if there was any other work between here and Doncaster on the ECML. The planned work was for the 12/13th and 19/20th November weekends and as far as I know the work on the 6th was brought forward because of the planned rail strike (which happened to be cancelled at late notice). There was a line block in place on the ECML on the 5th and 6th from Little Bytham to Peterborough according to the Railcam Diagram. This work was planned about a year ago and LNER driver route learning has been taking place twice a day over the Joint Line for the past two months or more using a 5-car Azuma set. A lot of work taking place at Werrington Junction is re-cabling, they were digging a lot of large holes and pulling cables through on Sunday. Use of the Stamford Lines during the nine day possession of the ECML in 2020 was made possible by signalling the Down ECML Slow from Helpston Junction to Tallington Junction to bi-directional working. I don't know if that infrastructure is still in place, I probably doubt it as it was a one off occurance. More work is obviously planned for this weekend as double length concrete sleepers have been delivered on Tuesday which suggests there will be work done on the switches, you can see them at 29:10 at the side of the track just in front of the loco.

    Deer crossing the left-hand tracks, at around 27 minutes?

    • @werringtonjunction
      @werringtonjunction  Před rokem

      Well spotted Matthew, it's just concrete post and wire fencing along that stretch of line beyond Hurn Road so I'm not surprised to see deer crossing. We get a lot of foxes in that area too and they are more visible during daylight hours.
