- MDA Show of Strength on 9/2/2012. Local segment featuring Laura Newkirk, Lonnie Newkirk and their son, Parker Newkirk. Laura has CMT, which is a form of Muscular Dystrophy. Local segment filmed in Charleston South Carolina by Live 5 News / WCSC.

Updates for Laura:
***November 12th, 2012 - Had my final left hip replacement revision with Dr. Del Schutte and it was a complete success. I'm walking without a limp now caused by my hips, and completely pain free in my hips. (total 5 hip surgeries)
***March 2013 - MDA assisted me in getting a very nice power wheelchair. I do not need to use it all the time. However, there are days where my lower legs are hurting very badly and I need to use it, especially for events where there is a lot of standing or walking (fair, concert, oyster festival, etc). One day (hopefully later rather than sooner) I will need it all the time like my Mom does now (I got the disease from her (genetic).
***May 2013 - Another downfall with my disease - bladder retention - must self catheterize myself every now and then due to nerves dying in bladder.
I had no idea that you were battling this disease but you are strong. I can see your strength just through this video alone. Continue to take good care of yourself & I will be thinking and praying for you & your family. ❤️

At the time I didn't even realize it, but suddenly it hit me… I was actually letting it flow after the movies, my best guess is that when I go'ogled Beck Reznark's guide and read it, something changed inside me. Can’t quite explain it, it’s been months, I can’t believe I even had paruresis to begin with.
