    Is war with Iran coming?
Last Saturday, Iran launched hundreds of armed drones and missiles to attack Israel in retaliation for an airstrike on an Iranian consulate in Syria that killed seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, including a general. Israel and the U.S. report that they intercepted most of the drones, and the sole known casualty was a 7-year-old girl critically injured by falling missile shrapnel. Israel has not retaliated…yet.
In the wake of all that, today's guest had something to say about the way some American activists loudly defended the Islamic Republic of Iran after staying conspicuously silent during protests against the regime and crackdowns that began almost two years ago.
That was Elica Le Bon, a first-generation Iranian immigrant born in the U.K. and currently living in Los Angeles, where she practices law and runs several large social media accounts that bring attention to the plight of the Iranian people. On the latest episode of Just Asking Questions, she talked to Reason's Zach Weissmueller and Liz Wolfe about the Iranian attack, the state of the protest movement and how social media has affected it, and her recent televised exchange with Dave Smith.

I am pretty sure there was an antiwar left for precisely the length of the Vietnam War. I am not old enough to remember that. Since then, they have been more than happy to start illegal wars right alongside Republicans. The difference is, they call their wars, "humanitarian efforts". War and government go hand in hand. The easiest way to get and keep power is to talk about how "those guys over there" are making everything awful and, "only I have the power/intelligence/moral fortitude to stop them!"

What I would like to add here is that during the last protest, more than 20,000 young people who had protested for their freedoms were arrested and are still locked up and awaiting their fate in fear. if they are lucky they will be released. and if they are not lucky they are hanged and after this the bodies are not handed over to the family because the regime does not want to show what they have done to the prisoners (rape and torture) the bodies are buried in an unknown place (you can see the feel the pain of those families who cannot mourn their loved ones). When the young people are shot dead, the government goes to the protestors' families and asks them for money for the bullet they used to shoot their loved one. the reason that people do not dare to protest is that this devilish regime has invested so much money to stay in power, including many followers in plain clothes, cameras and riot police who not only beat but also arrest and you don't know what happens to the Protestants. I hope that our King Reza Pahlavi will return to Iran soon so that the Iranian people can live in peace. 🌹🫅🌹💚🦁🤍☀️❤️🌹🍀✌️🍀

As an Iranian I think, your question regarding the enrichment is interesting. Enrichment should not be the point of measurement. The research on enrichment is more important. You could enrich uranium faster if you have the knowledge to make better centrifuges and the knowledge to make bomb. That is not measured and that is what the Islamic Republic was doing all along and it has always been unchecked.
Also regarding the sanctions, when US removes the sanctions partially it makes people think there is going to be new future and they invest on what they have with the regime (Because they have to live somehow) and when you put the sanctions back again you deprive them of their investment and they go more bankrupt than if they were under sanctions all along. This behavior with sanctions has made it worse. Either go in all the way seriously for a short period of time (5 years) or don't do it at all.

Regarding the Narrative Zach mentioned about Mosadegh, it is a typical disinfo that left has repeated over and over and alot of people in the West believe it and then feel guilty about it.
Iran was not a thriving democracy before him and he was never democraticlly elected. In fact non of the PMs were elected by the people but appointed by the Shah. Shah invited him to form a government to manage nationalization of oil and then due to all the unnecessary tensions he created both interallly and externally, plus trying to push the monarchy to the corner, he decided to dismiss per his constitutional rights. Mosadegh dismissed the order and declared a republic. At that time the US helped the Shah to enforce his right and dismiss Mosadegh by force.

Note the role of the Quom Marjeya, Abol-Ghasem Kashani and a young Khomeini in overthrowing Mohammad Mosaddegh.
Mossaddegh was appointed by the Shah and confirmed by the Majlis. Mossaddegh was deeply unpopular in Iran and interfered in the 1952 election because the anti Mossaddegh politicians were sweeping the election.
The Shah was more popular and legitimate than Mossaddegh in 1953.
Under the Shah Iran's economy grew very fast in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and was on the verge of becoming a global superpower and one of the world's 5 largest economies.

I disagree about US interventions since Korea. The losses incurred by regimes opposed to the US have been high but I don't care since they were enemies of the USA and those are the consequences. I don't waste any tears for them. At the same time in Kuwait, Kosovo, Bosnia, Afghanistan, while we were there, for the Kurds and Swamp Sunni in Iraq are all much better due to US interventions. Vietnam is also thriving currently since they abandoned economic communism. Libya was overwhelmingly a European intervention, not a US one. We only provided a bit of logistical support and not much else. Also, in Iraq, no longer governed by Sadaam and his sons, who killed at least 500,000 of their own citizens, saying life is worse now is also difficult to sustain objectively.

Iran has a right to defend itself (i.e., retaliate) regardless of how much Elica conflates Iran's despicable domestic politics with its consulate/embassy being bombed by a foreign aggressor. If she wants to blame Oct. 7 on Iran or any other such atrocity, I am totally open to her bringing actionable evidence in front of a court of law. Until then, my "Instagram school of law" degree says that they are innocent until proven guilty on the narrow point. But, if/when they are found guilty in some kangaroo court (since we know they will bring the thinnest and most circumstantial of evidence) that nonetheless happens to draw the correct conclusion (indeed, I have very little doubt that Iran is in fact involved), we can also then bring similar charges on just as shaky of evidence against the US for having done the exact same thing many times over.
To reiterate: Iran's domestic politics is one big, fat red herring which deserves its own just prosecution on its own terms that are nonetheless completely separate from Israel's illegal air strike.
I mean, Elica is LITERALLY just "saying anything" to distract from the issue at hand. I don't care if what she says is true. We already KNOW the truth of Iranian politics. Unfortunately, it is not a relevant retort to the correct statement that Iran has the right to defend itself.

Oh, so that means, as Argentina concluded in a court of law, Iran is responsible for the bombing of a Jewish community center as well as other community buildings in a terror attack? It was concluded in a court of law.
Similarly, Iranian terror funding has several rulings in the US and Europe, resulting in seizing of assets and liabilities.
There's a level of unawareness that comes from something so obvious that it doesn't have to be proven, and then someone thinks they're clever by going "where's the proof", when it's a single Google search away. Hell, just look up the seized weapons shipments to Hezbollah- or just listen to Nasrallah, who openly speaks about how Iran is their spiritual leader and funder. None of this is hidden. If you actually look, you'll immediately find it.

Let's be real, this Elica has her agenda regarding the Iranian regime, which is fine, but instead of just focusing on that she has been a mouth piece for the Israelis and made unsubstantiated claims regarding their 'right' to the land, and how Jews were treated in their home countries in north Africa and the Middle East. The western media has gravitated to her because she is a 'brown girl' supporting western ideals, in a time when those ideals are now killing tens of thousands and displacing millions in a matter of months. There was always a spot for a well spoken brown person that supports the west in western media to derail Arab empowerment, she has simply, and sadly filled in that role.
