Just renewed by passport today! Adding some additional insight: I picked up a renewal form at the post office, got my photos taken at Walgreens which were about $15, and shipped through USPS. I did a money order directly at the post office for an additional fee of $1.45 (they only accepted debit or cash) and then they mailed it Priority Mail 2-day w/ tracking for $8.95. I told them standard shipping. My total fee's at the post office (USPS) were $140.40.

Personal check works too! I forgot my check book, so my only other options was money order at the post office.

Thanks for going over this my passport isn't due for renewal until spring 2024. I was just thinking that renewal is fast approaching and I had know clue what to do definitely will renew before six months to be safe.

I had to mail mine in. I did not qualify for the online renewal. They received my passport on the 12/15 and I have the routine service (6-9 weeks). Itâs now 1/30 and my application still says âin processâ. I did pay for the 1-2 day shipping for them to return it so hopefully receive it soon. Itâs going on week 7 now. Iâll keep you all posted.

Yeah that is a total scam! The form is so easy to fill out and there is NO need to spend extra money for renewing your passport then the fee that is required. I am so glad you found this helpful and I am glad I could save you $60!
Just a correction, you want to print the form BEFORE signing it. They will not accept an electronic signature.

Nope. Just make sure the application is completely filled out, you have you photo attached to the form exactly as instructed and your payment is sent with the application. From there the application is sent via USPS.

Yes this video is about renewing the US passport, so if you live in the US or have a US passport, this applies to you.
Do you send the payment by check along with all those documents or is there a separate portal to pay with card?
If you are renewing by mail you would include a check or money order in the envelope. Online card payment portal is only for international renewals by mail from outside the US. There is also an online renewal system in the US aka MyTravelGov that does accept cards or ACH.

You only need to send in one copy of the renewal form, 1 passport photo attached to the form as indicated and you do no need to send a return envelope. I hope I was able to help you out! Any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

They will cash the check sometime after they have received the application. There will be a status that will show checked cashed in the passport tracker.

Questions why you have to print pages 1 and 2 if you have to submit only the one you filled up. Do you have to submit the print pages too?

Hi Kayla, Thank you for your helpful video. I purchased a killer deal to Greece under my maiden name which matches my passport. However, I noticed that my passport is set to expire before my flight. To add complication, I now have a new legal name through marriage. Am I required to renew my passport under my new legal name or can I keep it as is to match the name on the airline tickets? Oh that's a difficult one. I would renew your passport under your new legal name and call the airline to see if you can change the name on the ticket of your new legal name. I've never been in this situation so I am unsure of what to do.

Yes you send the check with the application with the total cost. So if you are expediting the passport the amount on the check needs to include the $60.

for the new passport renewal, can we get the passport photo at the post office or we have to get it at any of our local area like Walgreen and CVS and bring it to the post office for passport renewal???
Some post offices will take a photo but that will be dependent on location. Some Walgreens and CVS will also take your photo. But you can take your own photo and get it printed. Once you have the application and photo taken it needs to be mailed with the USPS.

You can still renew it. You can renew your passport up to 5 years past its expiration date according to the website.

I can not help you unfortunately. But I did a quick search in CZcams for passport renewal with a DS-11 form and there are a lot of great video resources. I would try that.
You need to visit an acceptance facility and have to talk to an agent. Bring your photo, id, and documentation and your check or money order. Acceptance facilities include Libraries, universities, govt buildings and the USPS.
Question, how and where do I attach the actual passport? Do I staple it, paper clip it? Also, do I staple my check on the DS-82 and where?
Just put it in the envelope same with the money order. Only the photo has to be stapled in the correct area.

I submitted online, it did not give me option to renew at postoffice. It charged me $89 fee then was told to print out forms and instructions to mail in my old passport and attach photo on the form. My question is do I now have to send another check? So confused...and do I need a special envelope?
Unsure as to where you submitted the form. I hope you didnât get scammed. If you go to the post office they provide the appropriate envelope.

It says you can do both but if you are printing it out anyways to mail in I would sign by hand to be on the safe side.
Hello Kyla, My passport expired recently and i sent my old passport and DS-82. The processing center at Texas rejected and sent back to me, because like you said that the 2X2 photo must be stapled at the four corners. I only stapled just one corner, therefore they did not accept it and i wrote them the wrong amount. What is the true cost of renewal for the month of July 2022? Many thanks and God bless
130 for a passport book. Add 60 if you wish to have expedited processing. If you really want it fast, then go with expedited as well as add 18.32 for 1-2 day shipping.
The cost is the same no matter what month you renew.

You would have to go in person and fill out a DS-11 (use the form filler and fill it out before hand). If the passport has already been expired you would not need to fill out a DS-64. If it is still valid then you would need to fill out a DS-64 and include it with your application.
I meet the requirements of 1,2,4,5. But not 3 because I got a passport when I was 13 so what do I do

That is kind of last minute to renew a passport....
Go expedited as it currently takes 7-10 weeks for routine service. If you go with expedited it should take around 4-6 weeks or you can wait until 2 weeks before your travel date and go to an agency (with proof of travel).

In section 10, it says to write the name as printed on the most recent passport. But my name is too long to fit the box. Do I just fill out what the box would allow, or should I write the rest of the letters outside the box?

Hello, my son is 19 years old now but when I first got his passport he was 13 years old. My first question is could I use his old passport picture or do I have to take him another one and my second question is do I need to get a written letter from his dad giving his permission like I did when I first applied?đ€
You will need a new passport photo as the DS-11 requires that. He will need to renew in person and no consent is needed as he is now an adult and can do this on his own. If you are using your checkbook for him make sure you write down his name and date of birth. Oh and his previous passport can be used in place of the birth certificate.

Well there isnât much you can do while you wait for your new passport. And unexpected trip opportunity unfortunately will have to wait. Besides most countries will not allow you in without 6 months or more on your passport before expiration.

Yes you can add a Passport card using a DS-82 if you already have a book. Just make sure you have the correct fees using the fee calculator.
Yes you can add a passport card upon renewal of your card. On the DS-82 form at the top it asks you what documents you are applying for and you can choose both the passport book and card.

I think you could if you do urgent service at an agency; however you need to provide proof of travel.
Thatâs cutting it close. Like Michael said you would need urgent service with proof of travel but if then itâs not always a guarantee.

Yes of course! That is how most people renew it is by mail!
No you cannot renew a child passport by mail. DS 82 only applies to those who previously had an adult passport. You need a DS 11 and go in person.

I have a question my passport was issued when I was 16 and itâs expired now. Do I do a renewal or? Because on the renewal it says if you were at least 16 then you can renew it but I also have people telling me that I canât and should apply for an adult passport.
16 can renew by mail as long as you have a 10 year passport. The form has a questionnaire that will tell you if you qualify for mail service.

I got the DS-82 application form from the USPS. It has information on the back of the application forms, I assume that is OK but wondered when you say print the application 'one sided'. We are only submitting ONE application, right ...but two separate pages. They only need one copy correct??
Double sided is probably ok and you only need one copy with the pages that have your info.
If you picked up the application at the USPS that is the exact form. If you print the form online at home then print it single sided. Itâs the directions online when printing form. But itâs the same form that you received at the post office.

If your passport was issued in the last 15 years and is not a 5 year passport, then you can renew by mail. You can also get urgent service at the state department, but that is not guaranteed if you meet all requirements.
If itâs expired and you are traveling internationally you will need to renew your passport with expedited service.
My husband and my passport expired Oct. 7, 21, do we need to send in proof of birth with our Application. Nothing has changed on passports.

Rejection is not the end of the world. I am sure they can figure it out but worst case scenario is that they will send you a letter asking for a new application with a stapled photo.

Try contacting your congress person or senator. Don't worry if you agree or disagree with their politics as they are there to help you. There is also the DS-86 form if you think it has been lost in the mail.
There are many reasons as to why you still have not received your passport. Reasons that I can not tell you. You can check the status of your passport online. Also check processing times.

What is a passport card đ€
Passport cards are a form of id that can be used on land or sea crossings from Canada, Bermuda, Mexico and the Caribbean. You cannot use it for international air travel but you can use it on domestic flights as a real id compliant card (passport books are always real id compliant). You can either get one with your application or apply for one on a DS 82 form if you already have a passport book.

Hi Kayla .. I need to renew two passports from one household. Can both applications and documents be included in one envelope? Would the expedite renewal fee be required for each applicant or since the applications are being sent together would one fee be acceptable? Can both passports be returned in one envelope using the 1-2 delivery fee? Can one check or money order be used for both passports for the total fees?
You can do that and even use one check or money order. Just make sure everything is calculated correctly same with 1 day shipping. Use the fee calc.

@@jerras52 Yes you can use one envelope. If you are using Priority express, you can use a flat rate envelope where if it fits, it ships. As long as you can fit both of them in 1 envelope you should be fine.

State Department is working on an online passport system due to be out by the end of this year. You can pay with ACH or card and nothing will need to be mailed out. This new system only work for adult passport books (no 5 year books for minors) and you cannot renew a passport card online. For the photos you can upload a compliant 2x2" (5 cm x 5 cm) jpeg. No name or gender changes are supported using the new system.

How can you set up an appointment for a minor (14?) Every time I go to my 3 nearest USPS locations, they all say "this location does not have any appointments available for the next 4 weeks".
I am sorry I can not help you with this question. I have never had to file for a minor passport. I would see if there is a CZcams video available or a Google search to answer your question.
There is also the 2 am hack or something like that.

This wasnât about renewing your passport in person. There are CZcams videos that talk about that. I would never talk about a subject that I personally am not educated on because I would not want to share false information. Also most do not renew in person.
