Borneo From Above Episode 6 - Bintulu

The name Bintulu was said to be originating from the phrase “Metu Ulau” that means “head picking” in the olden native language spoken in Bintulu. As some may or may not know, some of the ethnics in Sarawak practice headhunting. It was said that Metu Ulau was the name of a river in Bintulu where the decapitated heads of the people, particularly enemies, would be thrown into due to the casualties of war which were later collected by the victors. Another version of the story took place in Sebezaw River where the native residents would preserve the heads of decapitated enemies by smoking them to prevent the heads from rotting. The articulation of “Metu Ulau” changed progressively in time, as that visitors came to Bintulu, would pronounce it as “Mentulau” before it evovled into “Bentulu” and then officially recognised as “Bintulu”.

Bintulu is one of the fastest growing city in Sarawak. Very well planned infrustructure with many new modern design buildings. No longer just a fisherman village. One of the best place to work and also to live in.
Dengan kepesatan ekonomi dan pembangunan, kesesakan lalulintas juga semakin meningkat di bandar Bintulu. Terutamanya, kesesakan trafik di Jalan Tun Hussein Onn saban hari semakin meningkat dan seringkali disebut di radio. Hopefully one day the Sarawak government can upgrade the road of Jln Tun Hussein Onn from 4-lane to 6-lane or make a new flyover from this road towards Jalan Johari Sunam which the traffic at these road is always bad especially during peak time. Lastly, I would like to thank Sarawak government for the development of Sarawak and for a better future of Bintulu.

Setuju tuan kini jambatan kemena dari bandar bintulu ke kpg melayu jepak kalau sudah siap nanti. Akan jadi tarikan di bandar bintulu. Flyover jalan jucntion dlm proses mau siap. Satu flyover yg terpanjang di sarawak kalau sudah siap nanti. Dan highway besar di area menuju jambatan kemena dlm perbinaan...

Sungai yg panjang sampai jauh ke hulu. Bila tanah kawasan berbukit di hulu ditarah utk buat jalan dan ladang sawit besar2an, tanah kuning akan mengalir ke sungai bersama air hujan. Air yg keruh ini akan mengalir ke hilir sampai ke muara lalu tumpah ke laut. Ia akan di pukul ombak ke sepanjang pantai. Sebab tu warna air sepanjang pantai jadi macam tu. Ia boleh ditangani, tapi nampaknya tiada usaha ke arah itu.
