  • Sultan Suleiman Took Prince Mustafa's Life | Magnificent Century
"MUSTAFA'S CRIES OF "DAD"" Magnificent Century Episode 123: • Magnificent Century Ep...
Suleiman falls into silence after he decides that Mustafa will be executed. Mustafa gets a call from the military camp with Suleiman's order. Hürrem gets worried about Suleiman's behaviors and understands this is the end for Mustafa. Musafa doesn't want to believe that his father will kill him. Cihangir wants his father to promise to not to kill Mustafa. Sparrowhawk and Yahya of Taşlıca plans a revold behind Mustafa's back. Sparrowhawk realizes the betrayal at the last moment and meets the death. And Mustafa walks in to the marquee.
    Suleiman has made his decision!
Suleiman falls into silence of the decision he has made. Hürrem gets worried the way he behaves. Cihangir and Bayezid tries to convince Suleiman that Mustafa has been trapped. However, Suleiman has made up his mind.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

According to history.... many people think that is some weakness or cruelty to execut his own sons BUT we don't see what is behind it, we don't see what the ruler feel. He can have broken heart, he can become broken but still he does his duety! We must realize that the monarch is really first and foremost a monarch/ruler, than the father (or husband, brother, ..) is responsible for the whole state, stability, the lives of millions of subjects. And betrayal, hence high treason, is the greatest crime (!), and even greater in the case of the dynasty. The ruler has a duty to follow the law and execute the rebels and traitors, whoever they are.... even if they are close relatives and people he likes.
So people should not blame Süleyman (historicaly) for executed his sons who were traitors. It's probably not weakness but strengh and unbelievble loyalty and devotion to his principal meaning (rule by justice). He may not have wanted to execute his children (as a father), but he HAD TO (as a ruler).
If he had spared them, he might have been more merciful and just in the eyes of the common people, but that is not really the case. If he spared relatives for betraying (the state, the empire, the monarch), it would be nepotism, illegal and therefore unjustice.... He should spared them only because they are his children? That would not be right. He can't make exceptions. No one make harder decision and hasn't more duties than monarch... and no one else would not be able to execute own children for treason, not for pleasure, but for duty and law. Only monarchs can have this responsibility and courage to do it. Of course is terrible to execute own children - but that doesn't change the fact, that it must be so if there is no other way and it must to do. Even a loving father-monarch can (therefore must) execute his children if the law so requires and they have committed highest treason.

Though a lot of this series is dramatized heavily to attract viewers this scene was perfectly done. Imo Sultan Suleiman was the last great Sultan and that was because he failed to pass the throne to a worthy son. Mehmed and Cihangir both died young but Mustafa and Bayezid both would've been good sultans. Mustafa especially would've been most likely a great Sultan rivalling his father and possibly even reaching the fame and greatness of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. All speculation but it is sad that the Empire was handed down to Selim who spent most of his time drunk and was a spoilt brat and all nobody from Selim ii onwards was anything special. The Ottoman Empire just slowly began to crumble. Mustafa is one of the biggest "what ifs" in history.

Just as I gave a farewell speech for Hatice sultan, I feel like I have to offer one for Prince Mustafa.
Mustafa, you were loyal, fair, just, popular/beloved by the people, competent and decisive. Everything an ottoman sultan should be. Everything a father should have from a son.
Sadly for you, your mother chose to whine, scheme and plot instead of helping you and keeping out of trouble. Because of that, you became reckless and you were treating Suleiman like your father first instead of your King.
You made a series of mistakes that eventually lead to your dismissal. You refused to listen to your father's advice, you refused to take his commands into a fully account and you married against his will and wishes. Because of this, you fell victim to sycophants like Rustem, who didn't miss a single opportunity to dig your grave with their schemes and lies.
Farewell, Mustafa. May you find peace in the great heaven beside your aunt.

I have changed my mind over the year on this whole thing. Mustafa, at least on the show, really didn't cultivate a relationship with his father. He chose his mother, never saw her flaws, chose Ibrahaim and never really saw his either. He was constantly acting on this own not with the direction of his father in a world where being the eldest does not make you the next Sultan. You earn it through obedience and trust. Instead of cultivating trust he allowed himself to be the star--this is why Suleimon didn't trust him anymore at this point. Mustafa fans forget all the things he did that weren't right. How he treated Helena wasn't right. How he answered for his father wasn't right. How he talked to his father? Out of everyone the purest relationship he had was actually with Mehmet--and how much of that was Mehmet?

When Mahidevran killed Mehmed there was only one third of episode given to it and only reaction we get is Mihrimah 10 second reaction and Suleiman's internal monologue.
But still you will notice a particular difference; Hurrem was crying over this victory while Mahidevran was smiling when she recieved news about Mehmed's death. Mehmed, a prince who took a arrow meant for her Mustafa.
