He’s not royal or anything. He’s just a politician from a wealthy family with ‘good breeding’ and connections. The political party isn’t mentioned but he wears blue and his campaign materials are blue, blue tie etc which would suggest he’s an MP (Member of Parliament) for the Conservative Party which are definitely seen as a little more stuffy and traditional. A lot of upper class British families are VERY class conscious and snobby. The political aspect does play a part in the plot - it controls Henry’s entire life and personality! The ‘breeding always wins’ part and calling Ian a mixed race mongrel is VERY on point for an upper class British boy to say.
Pinning this, thank you ❤️❤️❤️
@@sassygrilledcheese ♥️
@@sassygrilledcheese as a Brit, it’s actually a good portrayal of a politician BUT he’s way to handsome and nice for a Tory 🤣
To be fair, there is a scene where they discuss their position in line for the Throne, so there's definitely some royal lineage.
@@mitchc.2660 ehhh I mean…. It’s very VERY far down the line. Not enough to be classed as actual royals.
We're very lucky with how quick Daphne trusted a complete stranger in a foreign country this didnt turn into a Taken/Hostel situation. lol Great video!
Forreal! And I just thought he was a little strange. He’s just always conveniently where Daphne is 😂😂😂 and thank you!
The whiplash from hearing them repeatedly say that they went out of their way to make sure that this man does not know that his daughter exists while also hearing them complain about how he never comes to see her or "steps up" in her life is like astronomically ridiculous
Don't forget the sister called "Parsnip" who "doesn't go out much" 😂
Why didn’t we ever meet parsnip!
Because she doesn’t get out much! 😂
as a girly who grew up desperately wanting to see and spend time with their dad, and also one who has a lifelong crush on Colin Firth - yes, yes, and more yes! this is an absolute childhood favourite!
Thank you - Glad you enjoyed my video! I also love this movie 🥰🥰🥰
Ian just walking away while she is asking for reassurance is crazy 😭 💀 what were they thinking
Forreal! Lol
"she notices a guy playing a poorly written song on the guitar" i love how casual your comedy is and it just hits every time. also, i'd love to see you review aquamarine if you've ever seen it, i think i watched it about a million times when i was younger
Thank you! And omg that would be a good one to do!
the initial wedding was on Daphne's 18th birthday so she was legally an adult so her mom couldn't stop her from going off to England
Huh, could’ve sworn they said she was 17 🤔🤔🤔
@@sassygrilledcheese I could have sworn she was 18, I draw this conclusion because that rando girl at the wedding asked her what college she was going to, mentioning the one she herself was going to in the fall. Plus at the end she was working on applications like there's a deadline even though it's still summer. I could be wrong, it's been a minute since I watched it and maybe this is what I claim as canon in my mind so I don't get hung up on it. 🤔 Either way, first video of yours I watched and I adore it, you got a new subscriber! 😀
@@letrailhall-nance9189 yay thank you! Yea idk! I’m looking online and I’m seeing mixed conclusions??? She def graduated high school. Oh well 🤷 THANK YOU SO MUCH!! more videos to come. I appreciate you watching and subbing! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
i kinda still cant believe colin firth played in this 😭
He did so good! 😂
@@sassygrilledcheese he's honestly so hilarious 🤭
This and Amanda in She's The Man had an unbelievable chokehold on my young mind. Colin Firth dancing still lives in me rent free.
But even as a child hearing she ends up going to Oxford of all places made me think "Ah yes, money truly does get you anywhere"
This 100% she's the man OWNS ME. That and the one where she's "trapped" on an island with a rock star.
Amanda was peak clumsy, goofy cuteness back then!
She was so not like other girls and we love her for that!
Ian's reaction is annoying. He's there just to make this weird y2k how-you-changed comment. I liked that they didn't choose to go the route where she gives up all her changes for her father and makes a scene infront of those royals. She makes a scene, but kinda privately and cuz of different reasons. It was a nice thing imho.
Ian is on my list of top 10 most annoying love interests in the 2000s. I still think she could have just waited until after the party instead of making her dad feel bad during an obvious misunderstanding! Also no one was forcing her to be royal she was literally only supposed to be there for the summer lol.
Thanks for watching!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
"I didn't hear cork" - exactly my reaction
FORREAL LMAO
"Just send her back..." Hmmm I wonder how many stamps it would take to return 1 helpless child back to Sender📮 🧐
Oh and the award for movie mom that takes zero responsibility goes to the mom in 3 men & a baby.
Libby annoyed me SO MUCH OH MY GOD. like Forreal Forreal I cut out so many Libby rants from this video 😂😂😂
@@sassygrilledcheese I guess its just Libby being Libby 🤷♀️
Ugh I am in love with your commentary style - but I think it’s your personality more than anything!!! I watched “The Sleepover” first, and have been on a binge of your vids!
Thank you so much! 🥹🥹
"money does in fact buy happiness" REAL
its true!
You gain yourself a subscriber! Absolutely loved itttt. If I can make a request: Bridget Jones’s diary lol
Omg thank you!!!! And omg I actually forgot about that movie 🫣❤️ I remember it being funny though 😂
I remember this movie from suuuuuch a long time ago!!!
I know I can't believe it came out more than 20 years ago
🤣
You single handedly revived my love for movie reviews
yay I'm happy you enjoyed my video 🤗
I lowkey loved Henry in this movie. He literally had every right to be pissed
Unapologetically love all the 00s Amanda movies, they’re just so silly and fun. This was one of my faves with Sydney White and of course She’s the Man 😂❤
First time viewer. I liked that you didnt blame the father for not knowing she existed! Some of us were abandoned by parents who were in our lives lol. I know they couldnt have us hating one of the parents through the movie but you pointing out where the mother kept saying crap is so true. Anyways loved the video and plan to watch another one right now
HE DID NOTHING WRONG!!! and thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊😊
These vids are getting so good!!!!!
Thank you!!
okay but this movie slaps to this day. Would I watch it in front of anyone else? No. But would I still watch it? . . . yes.
I openly love this movie. Its such a good comfort movie to put on
you had me into this vid the whole time!
Yay! I’m happy you enjoyed it ❤️❤️❤️
This was my FAVORITE movie in middle school, I still have the DVD 🥹🤍🤍🤍
Poor Henry was just out here fighting for his life the whole movie 😂
I watched this in year 6 at school! One of my favourite teachers said she thinks I would really it and I did!. I swear it was such a formative part of my psyche. To this day I love this movie! I could recite most of it 😂 and it implanted the idea in my head that a young woman can do anything she wants, like travel alone to a foreign country and have a adventure. It's dreamy and funny and Daphne is great! I love Henry's mum too. Plus, Colin Firth 🙂👌
Just found ur channel. I love your vids and your humor! Please confinue fo make more content. 💜🌈
Thank you! I'm happy you're enjoying my videos and I appreciate your comment 😊
Eek this is so fun!
Thanks Rachel 🤗🤗🤗
the coming out joke, omg ;_;
Lmao I was proud of that one! 🤣
The whole tripping and falling thing with Amanda was so cringe and torturous that it made every movie that she ever stared in so exhausting to watch.
It’s so annoying but I still love her lmao
5:36 only need to be 15 to legally be considered an adult for airplanes (in the us)! Source: that was when I was allowed to get through security without my mom needing to come with me 😂😂😂😂
...if anyone said I had changed while only knowing me for less than a month, I'd laugh in their face.
FORREAL! lol
stan henry and grandma
Wasn't expecting Cilla Black there lol, surprise surprise indeed
its my favorite bit to use in videos lmao
@@sassygrilledcheese She was enormously famous in the UK, particularly in the 70s, 80s and 90s, everywhere on TV - presenting loads of different talk shows and gameshows and stuff. But these days it's an increasingly obscure reference, even here, never mind from an American .
See this is why i still watch early to mid 2000's movies and late 90's movies. So camp, so ridiculous, so enjoyable and so horrendously awful at certain points. Questionable in many criticial areas but so darn good its bad. Im not ashamed to say that i dont consider myself a cinophile, i like movies that make me happy too much 😭
Loooove early 00s movies ❤️
Slay queen! 😝
Thanks boo
I don’t think she’s a minor, she’s 18 I think? She just graduated high school?
I swear there was a line that mentioned she was 17. Graduated but still 17, idk! I could be totally wrong lol
There's a line that says "on my 17th birthday mom and I had to work" and that's the wedding they're wearing the red vests.
Coming out party?! 🏳️🌈
Dude whatever happened to Oliver James fr
idk but he aged like FINE WINE
@@sassygrilledcheese Did he?? He's not on social media so idk 😭
I have you a like and no like was available wtf
omg u were so fast hahahaha
edit: also I have no idea what you mean I'm sorry
I’ve never seen a bird fall off of anything either 🤣
Right!?!?
Idk how you ended up on my feed but i'm glad you did, you're hilarious !
