Emily is always delightful in these, but this was some next level stuff. I think that wig contains the soul of a disaffected house wife from the 30s.

I know she's doing a character, but my Grandmother born in the 1930s actually talked and acted like that. She had that accent and was a very sassy and sarcastic lady, very funny too.
Betting she wasn't from MO, we don't talk like that.
It’s was actually a really common accent in that era. It’s what they called a transatlantic accent; they had an interesting reason why they all spoke that way but I’ve forgotten what it was 🤷♀️
There’s something about it that is enjoyable to listen to; I bet your grandmother was just a joy 😊

People did not speak with a transatlantic accent. It came about as an evolution of british accents done by theatre actors and eventially moved to TV broadcasting because directors thought it sounded sophisticated, was easy to understand, and didnt brand you from a certain area. While it was taught in affluent schools, it was only a tool used in social circles and not a persons pattern of speech.

You have NO idea the irony of the pearl onions with cream sauce!! That was something my grandmother made during the holidays, that I actually LOVED and have never been able to recreate! She passed a long time ago now, but every Thanksgiving I always think of these. Maybe I’ll give it a shot again this year 🤔 Y’all freaking KILL these; please keep them coming!! ♥️

creamed peas and pearl onions over mashed potatoes used to be a staple of my family's thanksgiving/christmas dinners
Recipes often shorten cook times to make the recipe seem easier particularly with onions so I’d keep an eye out for that if you make it
Soak your onions in water over night. No idea why my grandmother did that, but maybe it’ll help you recreate your grandma’s dish.
Both the creamed onions and the jello/mayo/cranberry mold are things my Mamaw used to make! I'm going to try the jello and cranberry mold tomorrow, for my own Thanksgiving this year!

It was a candy cigarette! I thought that it looked like one, and then she ate it and I'm like, YUP! I remember those! They did seem to put it in a real cigarette box though, as the boxes that I got were much smaller.

Emily should be a regulr on the Mythical Kitchen! She makes the Mythical Kitchen funnier than it wasn't already. I love the MK don't get me wrong but there needs to be more pizzazz. Like with GMM, they actually have the ability to be funny while also doing what they love and with this, it's great but it needs more :)

Your “mock duck” is close to a stuffed flank steak that my mother would make for Sunday dinner. We called it by an Italian name, which I can’t spell!
She’d take flank steaks that had been butterflied, lay bacon strips on it, then add bread crumbs mixed with Parmesan, oregano, salt, and pepper. Roll and tie it, cover it with spaghetti sauce, and bake it til the meat was cooked! Served with pasta, it was wonderful!
