Was there 80-83 USAF. Had a very good friend that was Army Spec-4 Air Defense, Chaparral and Hawk software maintenance guy. I was a USAF Crew Chief on the F-15 A/B and later C/D aircraft.
There was a mix of "regular life", learning and enjoying the West German folks, history, and beautiful country, as well as excursions to Luxembourg, and such.
Countered with the reality that we were the "trip wire", and "First Response" to any threat that the Soviets/Warsaw Pact folks could throw at us at a moment's notice.
Met West German, English, French and other NATO forces folks in many situations. And the realization that such varied peoples, form so different "worlds", we could find common ground that was so relevant to the survival of all that was dear to each of us, made me realize that in the USA, we could do the same, if we could hold our differences in check (not give them up or compromise them) to find the same type of common ground that was worth fighting to preserve for each of us, rather than let foolish and selfish notions tear us apart.
"Hello!" and "Thank you!" to all who went before me, served with me, even though we never met, and to those that came after. We are all, brothers and sisters, no matter the branch, rank, the divisions, the countries or any other thing that was "different" between us. The "same/common" ground united us.
Just someone that was there, when you were there, and a face you once saw... Just like I saw you...
      I remember you.
As I learned, later, a saying from time in South Korea...
      "We Go Together"

@trunkmonkey9417 God bless you partner, I personally never made it out of the states but worked in support of the many navigators and nav trainers going thru Mather in the mid 70s. My little brother made it to Germany as a surveyor after Chernobyl blew its top. He passed away three short years later from cancer caused by his time there working in the field. Love your post. It will be pinned. Thanks for watching.

The song was just some random piece of music that was used for background and a lot of different productions. It probably has a name but that’s only useful to the folks that are buying it for their own production.
