My best friend and I use to do this ponytail "trick" back in the early 70s. We wanted our ponytail to appear fuller and longer than it really appears. She did mine and I did hers.
I did it once with my hair and it only held my hair up shortly. It'll start to slip down just after a few minutes then move and sweat a little, ta-da! your hair is entangled!

My hair is super silky like that, which means getting curls to stay is a pain, hair ties slide right out and getting my hair to look full is a challenge.... also people think it's OK to walk up and pet me like a dang golden retriever if I leave my hair down. To the point my husband bought me a patch for Christmas they says "do not pet " 😂
