Don't copy Emma! Be yourself! She hardly sang any of the song alone nor dance alone. She sat down for much of it. All this tells experienced performers that the director felt she wasn't good enough to do it like it's done by more talented women. She may be a good actress but she's no musical star! 4:50

Only as far as placement in the show--"Mein Herr" does turn up later. MH wasn't in the original stage version, having been written for another show (IIRC--or perhaps that was "Maybe This Time"?). When Bob Fosse made the film, he replaced "Don't Tell Mama" with "Mein Herr," probably because it better highlighted Liza's talent (as well as Fosse's slinkier choreography), and added "Maybe This Time" as well. Anyway, subsequent stage productions, especially after the 1998 revival, have returned "Don't Tell Mama" and added both "Mein Herr" and "Maybe This Time" too.

The movie spoils because, you know, Liza, but I read a long chapter on the show in a book I've long lost. Sally is not supposed to be that great of a performer. That's why she's stuck the . It makes no sense why she's still at the Kit Kat Klub. A g ain she's Liza. She should be on world stages. Actresses usually play the part down to convey this. You have to be a good singer to be an average one.

    • @user-sh4mv3tc3r

That is such nonsense. Following that logic, Charity in Sweet Charity should not be a good dancer. Hal Prince was critical of the casting of Minnelli, then revived the show with the best singer who ever played Sally....Allyson Reed. It is beyond simplistic to think that if someone has real talent that they would be too successful to work in a place like the Kit Kat Club.
