IronResistance Iâm pretty sure it means losing on time. Like, if I flag, I lose on time, if Iâm flagging someone it means Iâm trying to force them to lose on time. In that clip it looked like the bot was just gonna move back and forth because it was way up on time.

I actually enjoy watching Hikaru actually have a challenge lol this dude consistently plays with piece and time disadvantages, and wins effortlessly without thinking. Sometimes you forget that heâs not perfect, so watching him think and get forced into blunders humanizes him a little bit.

this video is so cinematic lmao. it's a 3 part masterpiece. the first match introduces hikaru-bot, the robot version of hikaru. you can tell that he's playing hikaru's openings, but he plays his moves instantly without needing to think. right now the bot's strenght is pretty much unknown, since you can tell that his rating is lower than hikaru but hikaru hints that it should be higher. they draw the first game and it leaves the viewer with a sense of mystery and the question: how strong is hikaru-bot?
in game two, hikaru is seen thinking for really long between some moves all while hikaru-bot takes half a second at most. hikaru loses this game, giving a sense of the bot's actual power. they play one more game only for hikaru to blunder his opening, giving us another reminder that hikaru is only human, and hikaru-bot is not. hope is almost lost as the viewer starts to wonder if it's even possible to beat hikaru-bot.
the final game. both battle it out in an epic game of chess. hikaru still takes more than double the time to think than hikaru-bot, but this time something is different. hikaru is in the lead! he just has to play the game perfectly without making a single mistake to win. after an intense display of determination and raw skill he manages to reach the end with only his queen, the two kings and a couple of pawns on the board. as a final act of dominance he promotes all of his pawns to queens and the game finishes with hikaru-bot's king mated, alone and quivering with fear in the corner of the board.

that is not how engines work, engines do not learn from mistakes
They did the exact same thing in Dota. Idk if this AI works the same, but it essentially became better than the top players in the world because it just learnt all of their tricks

For example, the bot was likely trained using data from recorded games of top level players (a technique in AI research called inverse learning). In this instance, the games he played would be added to the pool of data that could be used to train the bot.

First time through I was distracted by the perfect timing when he gazed at the ceiling

LOL, the game he "won" took the bot ten seconds to play. Hikaru enjoyed making four queens. What he doesn't seem to get is that the machine doesn't "think". All of its moves are automatized and virtually instantaneous. Of course, Hikaru knows that he is playing a computerized smart database but his human feelings/reactions were pretty much the same any one of us would feel if WE were playing him! His own game is inhumanly fast and automatized because he is himself an amazingly gifted player who has so much pattern recognition and sheer visualization skill that unless he is playing another very strong human in his own league he could wipe the floor with anyone rated significantly lower than him without "thinking". Of course, being human...he can still blunder but even then, against a much lower-rated player, he will likely always recover with the best play as the opponent won't be able to convert the advantage. It's nice to see Hikaru get to feel a wee bit of what others feel like who have to play him. Meanwhile, with over 3.5 million views, he is laughing all the way to the bank. Very entertaining stuff, thankyou GM Hikaru.
